    REBRAND!
    http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/the-fix/wp/2012/10/03/republican-brand-still-dog-food/

All of which tells use one thing: The Republican Party’s brand
continues to be, as former Rep. Tom Davis (R-Va.) said in the runup to
the 2008 election, “dog food.” In fact, the GOP brand is actually worse
than it was four years ago, with most of the numbers above falling by
between five and 10 points over the last four years.

“Romney’s asset as an outsider has not been utilized to rebrand the party,” Davis told The Fix.

The good news for Republicans is that Democrats aren’t as popular
either, though they continue to have about as many favorable reviews (48
percent) as unfavorable ones (46 percent).

If you build it...they will drink it...............Scientists in New Zealand have produced a genetically modified cow whose milk is less likely to cause allergic reactions, the BBC reports. The modified cow produces milk without the whey protein beta-lactoglobulin, which triggers allergies for some.

The scientists added genetic material to disrupt the manufacture of the protein through RNA interference. “All milk samples from the transgenic calf were devoid of any detectable beta-lactoglobulin,” they reported. http://www.israelnationalnews.com/News/Flash.aspx/251107

The latest season of TLC's 'Extreme Cheapskates' premieres this month, and from the looks of the teasers they've posted online, the recession has born an entirely new breed of outrageous savers.

In the first clip, we meet New York resident Kay. Not only does she freely admit to never using toilet paper, she reveals she hasn't done laundry the traditional way –– using a washer and dryer –– in years.

"Whenever I have dirty clothes, I try to wash them while I'm showering," she says. "I think the last time I did laundry was maybe three years ago."

Here's her alternative method: Lathering up her duds with detergent (a free sample, naturally) and soaking them while she washes herself. Afterward, they hang to dry in the shower. http://www.dailyfinance.com/2012/10/02/new-yorker-saves-by-skipping-laundry-for-3-years/?ncid=txtlnkusaolp00000058&

  27. A WEATHER expert has backed the stance of an Alice Springs filmmaker who refused to sell footage of a firestorm to former US vice-president Al Gore — to use in Mr Gore’s climate presentations — because the event was unrelated to climate change.

Chris Tangey from Alice Springs Film and Television recorded the phenomenon on Curtin Springs Station, 360km southwest of Alice Springs, while scouting locations for a film.

The footage has been an international sensation, reported widely in global media.

In an email exchange with Mr Gore’s office, Tangey said using the footage in a climate-change framework would be “deliberately deceptive”.

“I am aware that you may have missed the reporting on the very localised nature of this firestorm,” Tangey wrote. “However, in any case, I am confused as to why you would offer to buy a licence to use it at all unless you had conducted even elementary research which might indicate that this Mt Conner event had direct linkage to global warming/climate change.”

Administration officials, though, denied that they were looking for a new home for Guantanamo inmates. They insisted the decision to buy Thomson Correctional Center, an under-used state prison 150 miles west of Chicago, was a move to alleviate overcrowding and create jobs in the process.

“This is about public safety and 50 percent overcrowding in high-security prisons,” one Justice Department official said.

Officials insisted Guantanamo detainees would not be coming to Illinois.http://nation.foxnews.com/president-obama/2012/10/02/obama-moving-gitmo-terrorists-illinois

Malka Rosental was born in 1934 in Stanislawow, Poland. After her
younger brother's murder in the ghetto, she went into hiding with her
parents. Caught in hiding, her mother sacrificed herself so that Malka
and her father would survive. The two fled to the forests, but after
months of wandering in the forest, the two were no longer able to
survive in such difficult conditions. Malka was taken in and cared for
by the Kot family, a poor rural family. Fearful of Malka's discovery,
the Kot family prepared a hiding place for her in the cowshed where
Malka hid for a year and a half. At war's end, Malka was extremely sick
and weak, yet was nursed back to health by the Kot family. Eventually
reunited with her father, Malka attempted to immigrate to Israel onboard
the Exodus, only to be stopped by the British. Malka later settled in
    Israel.

Johnson & Johnson paying a $2 billion fine for off-label promotion of the antipsychotic drug, Risperdal.

In none of these major cases were executives charged with a crime,

law, chalking up the fines and penalties to the normal cost of doing
    business.

William Zanzinger killed poor Hattie Carroll

With a cane that he twirled around his diamond ringed finger

At a Baltimore hotel society gath'rin'

And the cops were called in and his weapon took from him

As they rode him in custody down to the station

And booked William Zanzinger for first-degree murder

But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears

Take the rag away from your face

Now ain't the time for your tears.

William Zanzinger who had twenty-four years

Owns a tobacco farm of six hundred acres

With rich wealthy parents who provide and protect him

And high office relations in the politics of Maryland

Reacted to his deed with a shrug of his shoulders

And swear words and sneering and his tongue it was a' snarling

And in a matter of minutes on bail was out walking

But you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears

Take the rag away from your face

Now ain't the time for your tears.

Hattie Carroll was a maid in the kitchen

She was fifty-one years old and gave birth to ten children

Who carried the dishes and took out the garbage

And never sat once at the head of the table

And didn't even talk to the people at the table

Who just cleaned up all the food from the table

And emptied the ashtrays on the whole lower level

Got killed by a blow, lay slain by a cane

That sailed through the air and came down through the room

Doomed and determined to destroy all the gentle

And she never done nothin' to William Zanzinger

And you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears

Take the rag away from your face

Now ain't the time for your tears.

In the courtroom of honor, the judge pounded his gavel

To show that all's equal and that the courts are on the level

And that the strings in the books ain't pulled and persuaded

And that even the nobles get properly handled

Once that the cops have chased after and caught 'em

And that ladder of law has no top and no bottom

Stared at the person who killed for no reason

Who just happened to be feelin' that way without warnin'

And he spoke through his cloak, most deep and distinguished

And handed out strongly, for penalty and repentance

William Zanzinger with a six-month sentence

Ah, but you who philosophize disgrace and criticize all fears

Bury the rag deep in your face

For now's the time for your tears.

How Jack White Struck Up a Friendship With Bob Dylanhttp://blogs.wsj.com/speakeasy/2012/10/02/how-jack-white-struck-up-a-friendship-with-bob-dylan/

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d3ms83UfmXc

How did you first strike up a friendship with Bob Dylan?

That was just by accident. I went and saw him play in Detroit and he
said to me, “We’ve been playing one of your songs lately at sound
checks.” I thought, Wow. I was afraid to ask which one. I didn’t even
ask. It was just such an honor to hear that. Later on, I remember I went
home and I called back. I said, “Can I talk to the bass player?” I
called the theater. I was like, “Did Bob mean that he wanted me to play
tonight? ‘Cause he said some things that I thought maybe – maybe I
misconstrued. Was he meaning that he wanted me to play with him tonight?
I don’t want to be rude and pretend that I didn’t hear or something
like that.” So turned out yeah, we played together that night. He said
yeah, come on, let’s play something, and we played “Ball and Biscuit,”
one of my songs. It’s not lost on me that he played one of my songs, not
    the other way around.

Thirty-six years ago, the Band presented its famed Last Waltz
concert, marking its break-up with an all-star concert featuring Bob
Dylan, Van Morrison, Neil Young, Eric Clapton, Joni Mitchell and many
    others.

Think of Love for Levon, tonight's Izod Center concert, as a kind of
Last Waltz II, with another impressive list of stars joining forces to
pay tribute to Levon Helm, who died in April.

The show's lineup includes Garth Hudson of the Band, Roger Waters, My
Morning Jacket, John Mayer, Joe Walsh, Dierks Bentley, Eric Church,
Gregg Allman, Bruce Hornsby, Ray LaMontagne, John Hiatt, Grace Potter,
Warren Haynes, Lucinda Williams, Mavis Staples, Allen Toussaint, Robert
Randolph, John Prine, Jorma Kaukonen, Marc Cohn, Jakob Dylan, David
Bromberg, Mike Gordon and the Levon Helm Band. It wouldn't shock anyone
if some other unannounced guests showed up as well.

I will be covering this concert with a live blog from the press seats
at the Izod Center. I'll keep a running set list at the top of this
post (refresh page to get the latest version), but for my thoughts on
the show, and NJ.com users' comments, see the comments section at the
bottom of the page. Unfortunately, those with mobile apps are not able
to see the comments; the best way to access this is on a computer, at

What seems sometimes incomprehensible in the contemporary world makes perfect sense—if we pause and study a little history.

In November 1918, had anyone in a starving Berlin predicted that, in twenty-two years, an ascendant Germany would control most of Europe, from the Atlantic to the Soviet border, he would have been considered unhinged. And if, in 1945, amid the ashes of the Ruhr, anyone had guessed that in sixty-five years, Germany would once more determine the future of Europe from the Atlantic to the Russian frontier, he would again have been written off as delusional. Yet today, cash-flush German Chancellor Angela Merkel holds the fate of the European Union in her palm—but in a far more secure fashion than an Adolf Hitler ever did.

Two inexplicable aspects of Germany’s current financial hegemony confuse us. One, how exactly has a once ruined Germany found itself back atop of Europe? Two, why are Germany’s debtors so angry at the country who is bailing them out, while Germans are privately incensed that they are being had —even as the German government publicly assures the indebted southern Europeans that they may be eligible for even more lines of credit? What sort of Kabuki dance is all that?

    TURKEY AT WAR WITH IRAN?.........

ISTANBUL — Turkish artillery fired on Syrian
targets after deadly shelling from Syria hit a Turkish border town on Wednesday,
sharply raising tensions on a volatile border that has been crossed by tens of
thousands of Syrian refugees fleeing violence in their country.

In a terse statement, the office of Turkey’s prime minister, Recep Tayyip
Erdogan, condemned shelling that hit the Turkish town of Akcakale, killing five
local residents and wounding a dozen others. The shelling appeared to come from
Syrian government forces who were fighting Syrian rebels backed by Turkey, which
has called for the ouster of Syrian President Bashar Assad. http://www.washingtonpost.com/world/middle_east/turkey-pms-office-says-turkish-artillery-fired-on-syria-after-shelling-of-turkish-town/2012/10/03/c3cc1386-0d8f-11e2-ba6c-07bd866eb71a_story.html?wpisrc=al_national

BRUSSELS - NATO demanded an immediate halt to "aggressive acts" against alliance member Turkey on Wednesday after a mortar strike from Syria killed five Turkish civilians.

The shelling "constitutes a cause of greatest concern for, and is strongly condemned by, all allies", NATO ambassadors said in a statement, after they held a rare late-night meeting at Turkey's request to discuss the incident.

"The alliance continues to stand by Turkey and demands the immediate cessation of such aggressive acts against an ally, and urges the Syrian regime to put an end to flagrant violations of international law," the statement said. http://www.jpost.com/Headlines/Article.aspx?id=286532

    Sixteen Tons
---apologies to Tennessee Ernie Ford and "Sixteen Tons"
Now, some folks say garbagemen pick up the trash
Some say they're paid out of Obama's stash
Union work rules, and union dues
When you're asked to make a video, you don't refuse
You haul sixteen tons, what do you get?
No appreciative hug from Mitt Romney yet
But if you make a scurrilous campaign video
Then your hurt feelings can even the score
I got up early morning and I started my shift
Lots of stinky trash bags I had to lift
Some of 'em break open and some of 'em drip
Why wouldn't Mitt Romney kiss me on the lips?
You haul sixteen tons, what do you get?
No appreciative hug from Mitt Romney yet
But if you make a scurrilous campaign video
Then your hurt feelings can even the score
I got up one mornin' tired of bein' bossed
Tired of breathin' in lots of that diesel exhaust
Decided to make a video that's promotin' the One
'Cause Romney never lifted no sixteen tons
You haul sixteen tons, what do you get?
No appreciative hug from Mitt Romney yet
But if you make a scurrilous campaign video
Then your hurt feelings can even the score
Folks know garbagemen don't work in the shade
Some show appreciation with a cool Gatorade
But with everything Romney has got in the bank
He never brought me a nice glass of Chenin Blanc
You haul sixteen tons, what do you get?
No appreciative hug from Mitt Romney yet
But if you make a scurrilous campaign video

    Don't abandon life

    Don't step away

    Don't give up that tune

    That you never could play

    If you're folding your tent

    And the gas pipes groan

    If every bone rattles

    Through nights all alone

    Well you're tougher than leather

    No old burlap sack

    Not some hard scrabble weeds

    Growing up through the cracks

Don't you know, you're never too old

You're never too old to hold somebody

Don't you know, you're never too old

You're never too old to hold somebody

You're never too old to hold somebody

    Don't think you've gone out

    Don't flicker and fade

    If you're gonna get lemons

    Then do what they say

    The wind makes you weary

    It knocks you around

    Logs on the fire

    Beats sun shining down

    But you're harder than nails

    No skinny old tack

You're still sharp as a razor

And I like you like that

Don't you know, you're never too old

You're never too old to hold somebody

Don't you know, you're never too old

You're never too old to hold somebody

You're never too old to hold somebody

I could bet on a horse

    But I'm betting on you

You still got what it takes

You got nothing, nothing to prove

Don't you know, you're never too old

You're never too old to hold somebody

rance’s most populous administrative zone, encompassing the capital Paris, has signed a cooperation agreement with the Palestinian district of Jerusalem, a move organizers say is designed to send a “political message” of solidarity with the Palestinians and their aspirations for a future capital in the city.
The French region described the agreement as the “first of its kind.”
The decision is a blow to Israel’s claim that the eastern sector is part of its united capital. A spokesman for Israel’s Foreign Ministry said east Jerusalem “does not exist” as a separate entity and that the French council was “living in a make-believe world.”
The Regional Council of Île-de-France voted September 28 in favor of a “decentralized cooperation agreement” with the Palestinian Authority (PA) district of Jerusalem, making it “the first French community to sign an agreement of cooperation with the Arab part of the holy city,” a statement on the council’s website read. The agreement is to be officially signed during the month of October

Anti-Israel Advocate Reps U.S. at Rights Conference

Muslim leader who blamed Israel for 9/11 chosen to speak at OSCE human rights conference

Al-Marayati drew widespread criticism from Jewish leaders and others
when he said that the U.S. “should put the state of Israel on the
suspect list,” according to the New York Times.

“If we’re going to look at suspects, we should look to the groups
that benefit the most from these kinds of incidents, and I think we
should put the state of Israel on the suspect list because I think this
diverts attention from what’s happening in the Palestinian territories
so that they can go on with their aggression and occupation and
apartheid policies,” al-Marayati told a radio host, according to the Times.

Al-Marayati has also defined attacks by the terrorist group Hezbollah as “legitimate resistance,” according to a report by the Investigate Project on Terrorism.

He was invited to participate in the conference as a “public member of the U.S. delegation,” according to MPAC.

“Al-Marayati was invited as a public member of the U.S. delegation to
HDIM along with Professor Ethel Brooks of Rutgers University and Nida
Gelazis of the Woodrow Wilson Institute,” MPAC said in a statement.

Also in attendance at the meetings was Ambassador Ian Kelly, the U.S.
Representative to the OSCE, as well as Ambassador Michael Kozak, a
senior adviser on human rights who is serving as the acting special
envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism.

Stacy Bernard Davis, a senior adviser to the special envoy to monitor and combat anti-Semitism Hannah Rosenthal, told the Free Beacon that “while Amb. Kozak is indeed in Warsaw on the delegation, I do not know anything about the individual you named.”

    Ambassador Bohlen,
the U.S. delegation’s leader, served in the government for nearly 30
years, including in the State Department. She also served as the

Suddenly, the President's new clothes seem embarrassingly transparent. The contention relentlessly promoted by Team Obama, to the effect that the Commander-in-Chief's performance with respect to foreign policy and national security was simply unassailable, is being seen for what it is: an utter fraud.
The deal-breaker has been the accumulating evidence that President Obama and his subordinates disinformed the American people - to put it charitably - about a present danger: the outbreak of violence against our diplomatic personnel and facilities and other interests in more than 30 countries around the world. Specifically, they denied that a carefully planned and executed jihadist attack against our consulate in Benghazi was responsible for the murder of the Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three of his colleagues on September 11, 2012.
The party line assiduously pushed for days thereafter by administration spokesmen including, most risibly UN Ambassador Susan Rice, was that the attack spontaneously ensued from a demonstration outside the U.S. compound prompted by an American video, "Innocence of Muslims," which reviles the founder of Islam. And, so the story went, the demonstrators got carried away and wound up sacking the consulate and a nearby safe house, in the course of which the four victims were killed.
It turns out that Team Obama knew early on that such representations were untrue. In a blog post headlined "Some administration officials were concerned about initial White House push blaming Benghazi attack on mob, video," ABC News' Jake Tapper recounted on September 27th that, "The Daily Beast's Eli Lake on Wednesday reported that intelligence officials said ‘the early information was enough to show that the attack was planned and the work of al Qaeda affiliates operating in Eastern Libya.' ‘There was very good information on this in the first 24 hours,' one of the officials told Lake.
For one thing, on September 10th, al Qaeda's Ayman al-Zawahiri, had issued a public call for retribution against the United States for a recent assassination by drone strike of one of his senior commanders. The consulate in Benghazi was low-hanging fruit - a vulnerable facility in a jihadist-infested city with a high-value target, a U.S. ambassador, who had no security.

Iran: We Just Need an Excuse to Destroy Israel

    Oct. 4….(Israel
Today) Almost baiting Israel to launch a preemptive strike on Iran's nuclear
facilities, the representative of the Islamic Republic's "supreme leader" to one
of its most secretive military forces stated this week that Iran is now just
waiting for the right excuse to destroy the Jewish state. Seemingly
contradicting himself, Hojjat al-Eslam Ali Shirazi, Ayatollah Khameini's liaison
to the Qods Force, told reporters that Iran would need just "24 hours" to
destroy Israel in what he called a "war of attrition."

    The Qods Force
is a clandestine wing of Iran's Revolutionary Guards and answers directly to
Khameini. It's primary field of operations is outside Iran's borders. Shirazi
said he believed Israel was foolish enough to try a preemptive strike on Iran,
and that Iran would then use its "expertise in fighting wars of attrition" to
    bury Israel.

    Iran fought an
extremely bloody eight-year war of attrition against Iraq for the better part of
the 1980s. But, of course, Iran does not share a border with Israel, so any war
of attrition between the two states would be carried out largely with air and
missile forces, where Israel enjoys a significant advantage, both in quality and
    numbers.

    Meanwhile, the
Times of Israel cited unnamed Iranian sources as saying the Islamic Republic's
nuclear program is accelerating. "More and more young graduates and people are
brought in every day," said one source who works at one of Iran's nuclear
facilities. "We have been working non-stop." The source revealed that Iran would
be able to enrich large quantities of uranium to 50 or 60 percent by early next
year. Uranium must be enriched to 90 percent to be used in nuclear
    warheads.

    Israeli experts
have noted that uranium need only be enriched a very small amount to be used for
energy production, so the fact that Iran has already nearly reached 50 percent
is all the evidence needed that its nuclear program is military in nature. It
has also been repeatedly pointed out, most recently by Prime Minister Benjamin
Netanyahu before the UN General Assembly, that the early stages of uranium
enrichment are the hardest and most time-consuming. For Iran to jump from its
current position to possessing weapons-grade uranium requires only a small time
    investment and the proper equipment.

    WATERGATE TIMES 10...AND NOBODY CARES.......

US Withdraws All Personnel from Benghazi, Libya
    The Washington Post
The Obama administration has withdrawn all official government personnel from Benghazi, the Libyan city where the country’s revolution was born and where the US ambassador was killed last month, US officials and locals said Monday. The State Department said that it has pulled its personnel from Benghazi and that any diplomatic outreach to Libya’s second-largest city is being done remotely. The US post where Ambassador J. Christopher Stevens and three other Americans died in an attack by militants has been closed. “Everybody who was in Benghazi and posted there has been withdrawn,” State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland said. She said she knew of no other US government employees in the city to help investigate the attack or perform other work. Nonessential US personnel also have been evacuated from the embassy in Tripoli, though it remains open. http://newmediajournal.us/indx.php/item/7015

Watergate had shit to do with any of this crap

this incident is disgusting on it's own without the convoluted comparisons

they do that to say LOOK THE D's LIE WORSE than the R's

I hate that shit I hate the way they all POSIT stuff like HEY it justifies one lie because this lie is worse

none of this shit is justifiable

whether the shit comes from side A or side B

and both sides write and have their pundits speak in these trite phrases that people can remember in order to deflect from themselves and get votes

If elected MITT will behave in much the same manner but with slightly different rhetoric ...

however NOW they must to convince you that he will save you

do not be too disappointed when it does not happen

However it will be good to keep HILLARY out of it for 4 years so go Mitt

OBAMA....THE WAR ON TERROR IS OVER............

Al Qaeda is determined to make the fragile African nation of Mali and safe haven and the terrorist threat from the network's affiliate in that country, al Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, "is spreading while we speak," a senior European official said Wednesday.
"We know the hard way that if al Qaeda fighters have a free zone they'll try to attack us all over the place," the official said. "We consider AQIM the growing, and maybe the leading, threat against us."
The official's concerns echoed worries of American national security officials. The al Qaeda affiliate has gotten increased scrutiny after the recent deadly attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya. U.S. officials have said there are signs extremists responsible for the attack were affiliated with or inspired by AQIM http://security.blogs.cnn.com/2012/10/03/al-qaeda-threat-in-northern-africa-spreading/?hpt=hp_t3

Albert Einstein's "God Letter," a handwritten missive offering his view of religion, will be sold this month on eBay.................

"The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honorable, but still primitive legends which are nevertheless pretty childish," Einstein wrote. "No interpretation no matter how subtle can (for me) change this.
"For me the Jewish religion like all other religions is an incarnation of the most childish superstitions. And the Jewish people to whom I gladly belong and with whose mentality I have a deep affinity have no different quality for me than all other people. As far as my experience goes, they are also no better than other human groups, although they are protected from the worst cancers by a lack of power. Otherwise I cannot see anything 'chosen' about them," he wrote of being Jewish.http://www.haaretz.com/jewish-world/jewish-world-news/einstein-s-god-letter-to-be-sold-on-ebay-1.468120

Tehran Currency Traders Shut Shops as Police Patrol Streets

    Most foreign currency shops and
outlets in Tehran’s Grand Bazaar were shuttered today while
hundreds of Iranian riot police patrolled in the downtown area a
day after protests over the tumbling national currency.

Police units were visible around Ferdowsi and Manouchehri
streets, near one of the main areas for currency traders in the
capital as well as roads surrounding the Grand Bazaar further
south. The minority of exchange houses that did open failed to
display prices or carry out transactions.

The rial fell to a record low of 35,000 to the dollar on
Oct. 1, an 18 percent drop, on the unofficial market. The
currency has plummeted since November when it traded at 13,200
    to the greenback.
