Floatin' Powa News Service: Trading Freedom for Free Dumb

Obama gives Jerusalem to the Palestinians
Like it is his to give. Jerusalem belongs to Hashem.
You will see.

This is the vast difference between virtue and expediency, between character and evil. Netenyahu will accept a two state solution based on the Andorra model. A Palestinian state that has sovereignity, but no armed forces. "It must be understood, we seek peace with the Palestinians and with the states of the Arab world while trying to reach as much understanding as possible with the United States and our friends abroad," the Israeli leader said at the start of the weekly Cabinet meeting. "My desire is to achieve a stable peace that rests on solid foundations of security for the state of Israel and its citizens."

Meaning, Israel has given all it will give. It won't be dictated to by Obama or anyone else. Suicide is option...yet it is the very option Obama wants Israel to take.

Would the reader take that option for himself?

Andy Benjamin

Hamas represses PFLP-led rally in Gaza
The police of the Islamic Resistance Movement, or Hamas, opened fire in the air and beat demonstrators who rallied in Gaza city on Saturday against Palestinian schism, wounding at least two people, witnesses and officials said.

Three demonstrators were also arrested, said Rabah Muhana, a leader of the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP) which group organized the rally in Gaza City.

Hezbollah and Hamas: The Sudanese Connection
Thrilling as it may be, perpetrating genocide on its own people does not by itself satisfy the ruling National Congress Party in Sudan. Stories have surfaced recently connecting Sudan with Hezbollah and Hamas. They give weight to numerous claims that the radical Islamist regime of Omar el Bashir in Khartoum is involved with terrorists around the world. Sudan's genocidal humanitarian disasters have long been the focus of the Sudan policy of both the United States government and American activists. Sudan's active role in global terrorism has not. But both deserve focus because both are methods by which Khartoum hopes to bring about an Arabized Shari'a state, an Islamized Africa, and eventually, a worldwide Islamic Caliphate.

The Obama administration's proposed budget for the State Department allocates aid of $41.5 million for Kyrgyzstan and $46.5 million for Tajikistan, whereas the corresponding figures for the current fiscal year are $24.4 million and $25.2 million, respectively. US military aid to the two countries will also similarly be increased under the new budget.

The justification given is that Central Asia's strategic importance has risen of late for US regional policies. According to budget justification documents released by the State Department in Washington on May 7: Central Asia remains alarmingly fragile: a lack of economic opportunity and weak democratic institutions foster conditions where corruption is endemic and Islamic extremism and drug trafficking can thrive. For this region, where good relations play an important role in supporting our [US] military and civilian efforts to stabilize Afghanistan, the [budget] request prioritizes assistance for the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan

Nova Chemicals receives approvals for takeover
So, who knew about these committees ...and who knew people in Canada needed approval from from them to buy and sell - I knew in Europe this was true with the EU but I did not know it was happening here too. And why only China & the US?
Nova Chemicals Corp., Canada's largest plastics producer, said Friday it received more regulatory approvals for its takeover by Abu Dhabi investment firm International Petroleum Investment Co.The company said both the Chinese Ministry of Commerce and the United States Committee on Foreign Investment have cleared the transaction.
So WTF is the United States Committee on Foreign Investment, period?
CFIUS is an inter-agency committee authorized to review transactions that could result in control of a U.S. business by a foreign person (“covered transactions”), in order to determine the effect of such transactions on the national security of the United States. CFIUS operates pursuant to section 721 of the Defense Production Act of 1950, as amended by the Foreign Investment and National Security Act of 2007 (FINSA) (section 721) and as implemented by Executive Order 11858, as amended, and regulations at 31 C.F.R. Part 800.
The CFIUS process has been the subject of significant reforms over the past several years. These include numerous improvements in internal CFIUS procedures, enactment of FINSA in July 2007, amendment of Executive Order 11858 in January 2008, revision of the CFIUS regulations in November 2008, and publication of guidance on CFIUS’s national security considerations in December 2008. Further information about each of these reforms is available via the links to the right.

NOVA Chemicals
U.S. Operating Center

Moon Township, PA 15108 USA
And why must China approve this sale?
NOVA has offices in China but they also have offices in Europe. So how come the EU did not have to approve the sale as well? I have no idea. All I know is "Executive Order 1158" appears to basically gives the government the control over who can sell their business and to whom they can sell. This is how the EU works, and this is also biblically significant. All buying and selling will be centralized is the word in Revelation.

Circling back to Tiananmen Square in a failing western light:

Last week, the New York Times thundered: “Beijing may be able to repress the memory of Tiananmen, but the yearning for freedom remains.” But, in fact, a number of influential commentators, who acknowledge the suppression of freedom, question this assumption. And it’s not simply the fact that, according to the World Bank, Chinese economic growth and planning have seen the fastest reduction of people living in absolute poverty in recent economic history, accounting for over 75% of the developing world’s total. James Kunge, who witnessed the events of 20 years ago, wrote in the Financial Times last week: “In a world of moral fluidity, Tiananmen is a gratifyingly fixed reference for our judgment of others... (but) I question the western assumption that the demonstrators were ‘pro-democracy’. The reality was less coherent.”

Perhaps in 20 years’ time, on the 40th anniversary of Tiananmen and the 85th commemoration of D-Day, we will know just how ascendant the Chinese alternative to liberal democratic capitalism has become.

“The rebalancing of relative economic power is not only alive but gaining momentum,” said Mohamed El-Erian , chief executive officer of Pacific Investment Management Co., adviser to the world’s largest bond fund. “Average investors need to make sure that they are not hostage to an outdated conventional wisdom that underexposes them to this phenomenon.”

US hospitals rationing nuclear imaging tests
A North American shortage of medical isotopes has forced many U.S. hospitals to begin rationing scores of diagnostic tests, and doctors said on Friday they see no quick solution.

Last month, Canadian health officials shut down a nuclear reactor in eastern Ontario that produces a third of the world's supply of medical isotopes, used in scans to check for an impending heart attack or see if cancer has spread.

Repairs of a leak of heavy water at the Chalk River reactor, first estimated to take a month, may now take three, and Canadian officials say they eventually may leave the isotope business altogether.

The Canadian plant is one of five aging reactors worldwide -- none located in the United States -- to produce molybdenum-99, the most commonly used medical isotope. The rapidly decaying substance has a shelf life of just 67 hours, making it impossible to stockpile.

"We are seeing a shortage," said Dr. Peter Conti

Binyamin Netanyahu may yield to two-state solution after pressure from Obama
NO, BiBi
Binyamin Netanyahu is expected to endorse a “two-state solution” in a much-heralded speech this weekend, but he may stall on American demands to freeze Jewish settlements in the West Bank.

Feeling the squeeze between the US Administration, which wants a moratorium on settlement growth and a commitment to a Palestinian state, and his national-religious coalition, which favours neither, the Israeli Prime Minister appears likely to try to steer a middle course.

Chinese Muslims trigger public backlash in Palau

The tiny Pacific nation of Palau's decision to allow 13 Chinese Muslims from the Guantanamo Bay prison camp to resettle there has sparked anger among islanders who fear for the safety of the tranquil tourist haven.

The U.S. government determined last year that the Chinese Muslims, or Uighurs, were not enemy combatants and should be released from the U.S. military prison in Cuba. China has objected to their resettlement, calling the men "terrorist suspects" and demanding they be sent home.

The U.S. has said it fears the men would be executed if they were returned to China.

Palau President Johnson Toribiong explained his decision to grant the Uighurs entry as traditional hospitality, but public opinion has appeared overwhelmingly negative. Some complained Friday that the government failed to consult the people.

"I totally disagree" with allowing the Uighurs onto Palau, Natalia Baulis, a 30-year-old mother of two, told The Associated Press by telephone. "It's good to be humanitarian and all, but still these people ... to me are scary," she said.

Russia dismisses ambassador to Ukraine

American companies and diplomats are lauding Turkmenistan’s call for diversified energy exports and are trying muscling in on projects that Russian energy giant Gazprom had displayed an interest in.

"The United States shares an interest in the further development of Turkmenistan’s energy sector and the diversification of export pipelines," said the US charge d’affaires to the Central Asian state, Richard Miles, as he opened a two-day conference on "Pipeline Integrity and Management" in Ashgabat on June 10.

"We believe that the successful realization of this strategy will strengthen Turkmenistan’s independence and bring big profits to the state," he is quoted as saying by the Turkmen state news agency.

In a report distributed by the semi-official website, Meryl Burpoe, the deputy director of Russian and Eurasian affairs at the US Department of Energy, also sought to redirect Ashgabat’s energy-export focus away from Moscow and toward both the European Union and South Asian states.

"US companies would cooperate with the Turkmen government to implement its strategy to diversify energy exports. The US Department of Energy, in turn, strongly supports the idea of diversifying the export of gas from Turkmenistan. I know that American companies are interested in participating in the implementation of pipeline projects from Turkmenistan to Europe, and Pakistan-India," she said.

Italy arrests four suspected of G8 summit plot
Italian police have arrested four people charged with plotting an attack on July's heads of state summit of the G8 group of industrialised nations, police sources said on Thursday.

At least two of those arrested have links to the communist-inspired Red Brigades, who carried out attacks in Italy in the 1970s and 1980s, kidnapping several public figures and assassinating politicians, the sources said.

A fifth person was detained, but has yet to be formally charged, and 15 others were under investigation, the sources said. They did not give any more details.
Sweden's New Asylum Policy
A twelve year-old Iraqi boy, Ronsy, has been missing for the past 17 days. He ran away after his family received the final decision that they will be deported from Sweden. The only trace he had left behind was a letter written to their representative at the social services office in Spånga, Sweden, a suburb of Stockholm. On the evening of the 23rd May, he asked his mother for a thousand Swedish kronor. The money, he told her, was to go to a football team he played on. The next day he was gone. When his mother contacted the school the day of his disappearance, she was informed that he hadn't been there at all.

A priest who assists refugee families stated: "Ronsy is only twelve years old but thinks like a grown man. He has heard that Sweden physically deports Iraqis and he asked if it was true that they can't deport a family if the police cannot find one of the children. He was scared to death to return to Iraq both for the sake of himself and his family."

At first glance, there was nothing special about the blimp floating high above the cars and crowd at this year's Indy 500 on Memorial Day weekend. But the real promo should have been for the blimp's creator, Raytheon, the security company best known for its weapons systems. Hidden inside the 55-foot-long white balloon was a powerful surveillance camera adapted from the technology Raytheon provides the U.S. military. Essentially an unmanned drone, the blimp transmitted detailed images to the race's security officers and to Indiana police. "The airship is great because it doesn't have that Big Brother feel, or create feelings of invasiveness," says Lee Silvestre, vice president of mission innovation in Raytheon's Integrated Defense division. "But it's still a really powerful security tool."

The Purge is on!
The inspector general (IG) of the Corporation for National and Community Service is being removed by President Barack Obama, a week after the IG questioned the eligibility of the largest and most expensive AmeriCorps program, and while the IG was contesting the "propriety" of a settlement made with a mayor for alleged misuse of AmeriCorps funds.
Investigation into former Ohio AG ends with fine
The long-running case against former Ohio Attorney General Marc Dann, accused of running his state office like "Animal House" and spending campaign money on goodies for himself and his family, ended Thursday with a fine and no criminal charges. Dann resigned a year ago after what began as a sexual harassment complaint against an aide evolved into a wide-ranging investigation into sexual misconduct, threats, vulgarity, misuse of campaign funds and state computers, and general unprofessionalism.

Militia report fallout lingers as legislators review agency
A special House committee formed to investigate the workings of a little-known state intelligence agency isn't supposed to delve into what brought about a controversial report about militia members.

But some committee members found that hard to accomplish without referencing the now infamous -- and retracted -- militia report.

"These strategic reports are very disturbing," Rep. Jim Guest, a King City Republican and vice chair of the panel, told two state Highway Patrol officials.

Rep. Bob Dixon, who is chairing the panel, made it clear at the beginning of Wednesday's hearing that committee members were to refrain from rehashing details of the Missouri Information Analysis Center's Feb. 9 modern militia report.

"I think that there's been sufficient examination of the content of the report," Dixon, R-Springfield, said.

Instead, Dixon said, House Speaker Ron Richard has charged the committee with "reviewing procedures for gathering, analyzing and distributing information to law enforcement agencies."

Rep. Jim Viebrock, R-Republic, said the state militia report's warnings that radical right-wing groups may become violent mirrored the message of a U.S. Department of Homeland Security released in April.
MIAC not producing "strategic" reports, but won't rule them out either
"I'm not going to sit here and say that there will never be another strategic report. I can tell you we're not working on one now," the superintendent told lawmakers in the first of a round of hearings on the now-controversial Missouri Information Analysis Center (MIAC).

Ethics Review of Lobbying Case
The House ethics committee said it was reviewing accusations of misconduct by lawmakers and their staff members connected to the PMA Group, a defunct lobbying firm at the center of a federal investigation of campaign contributions. The firm is known for its close ties to Democrats on the defense appropriations subcommittee, principally its chairman, Representative John P. Murtha of Pennsylvania.
Lobbying boosted as health care debate heats up

Obama Hovers From on High
Distorting history is not truth-telling but the telling of soft lies. Creating false equivalencies is not moral leadership but moral abdication. And hovering above it all, above country and history, is a sign not of transcendence but of a disturbing ambivalence toward one's own country.
