Foreign Minister Moses Wetangula said yesterday after a meeting with Somali Foreign Minister Ali Jama Jangeli: “We have been consulting with other forces at sea and we have agreed that we are going to invoke resolution 1816 of the United Nations Security Council that empowers the use of force.”
Resolution 1816 was adopted in June 2008 and allows states co- operating with Somalia’s transitional federal government to enter territorial waters and use “all necessary means” to repress acts of piracy.
