They know nothing, they understand nothing;

Yep. I raised my boogers on plain plain unsugared food and no damn fast food and they were superior when I got done with them. I am not responsible for what they did to themselves.
Also, look at what people were able to retain in the old days. It boggles the modern mind.

    Howard's Second World War
activities included acting and filmmaking. He was active in anti-Nazi
propaganda and reputedly involved with British or Allied Intelligence,
which may have led to his death in 1943 when his airliner was shot down
over the Bay of Biscay, sparking conspiracy theories regarding his death.

Howard was born Leslie Howard Steiner to a British mother, Lilian (née Blumberg), and a Hungarian father, Ferdinand Steiner, in Forest Hill, London, UK. His father was Jewish and his mother was raised a Christian; her own grandfather was a Jewish immigrant from East Prussia who had married into the English upper classes.[

  46. SECURING AMERICA: DOMESTIC DRONE TESTING

In the sky – it’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s…a drone. Congress is learning more about domestic concerns of remotely-piloted aircraft.

FOX News Radio’s Jared Halpern reports from Washington in our ongoing series on national security:

The Federal Aviation Administration wants to create half a dozen drone – or Unmanned Aircraft System – test sites around the country.

(Dr. Toner) “We expect to learn how UAS operate in the different environments and how they impact air traffic operations.”

…Dr. Karlin Toner with the FAA. The military relies heavily on drones to carry out strikes overseas, but here on the homefront, the unmanned aircraft could be used by police for surveillance, or by ranchers or farmers to easily check on livestock and crops.

Mentally ill roundup plan after train pushes

The city is making a major push to sweep the streets of dangerous, mentally ill New Yorkers — and has even compiled a most-wanted list, The Post has learned.

The measure follows a pair of high-profile subway-shove fatalities from December allegedly involving mentally ill individuals.

The city has already drawn up a list of 25 targets, sources said.

“After the Queens subway attack [of immigrant Sunando Sen], the [city] decided to take a proactive approach to track down the most dangerous mental-health patients that currently have mental-hygiene warrants” out for them, a law-enforcement source said.

  54. My Life’s Work (Part Two), Free Books on U.S. Foreign Policy

    By Barry Rubin

In part one of this article I wrote about books on the Middle East I’ve made available that can be read in full for free on line here.

But I’ve also had other interests which intertwine with that one, especially U.S. foreign policy, a topic which is very much present in such books as Cauldron of Turmoil and Paved with Good Intentions.

This article discusses two additional books and includes links to their full texts available for free.
I grew up in Washington DC and had a lot of close contact and observation of the governmental process which has proven to be invaluable in my work. Academics often do not understand how policy is actually made and their attempts to develop theories on this point have made their made misunderstandings even worse.

Thanks to the available findings of a 2006 study showing that cannabis actually reduces the number of cancer cells, medical marijuana users can now feel even better about the widely abolished pain relief ingredient found in the plant. The relationship between marijuana and cancer has always been up for debate, but with the use of a specially crafted oil made from the buds of the Cannabis Sativa plant, scientists confirmed that the plant’s primary psychoactive chemical tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) destroys any and all malignant cancer cell growths in several patients. Details on the marijuana and cancer prevention connection aren’t exactly known, but further, more extensive testing will reveal exactly what may be causing this seemingly miracle cure.

Richie Byrne, a genial forty-nine-year-old who wears relaxed jeans and untucked shirttails, has been with the show since it began, in 2009. He is an emotional fluffer; his job is to keep the audience aroused while they wait for Oz to appear. “I’ve got a question for you,” Byrne shouts. “Are you readdddddy for Dr. Ozzzzzzzzz?” The audience, mostly women in their forties and fifties, bursts into applause. Byrne shows the audience when to laugh, when to clap, when to ooh and ah. Inspirational disco runs in a continuous loop: Donna Summer, Gloria Gaynor, and Patrick Hernandez’s hedonist standard “Born to Be Alive,” from the summer of 1979. “This is a show for you and about you,” Byrne calls out. “If you see something you want to react to, do it.” Once again, Byrne yells, “Are you ready for Dr. Ozzzzzzz??”

  103. After all, the most common modern representation of Jesus (the first picture of this post) bears little resemblance to the only (disputed) historical (but nonbiblical) description of Jesus:
The only physical description of Jesus that does exist is from a copy of a letter from the Roman consul Lentulus to the Roman Emperor Tiberius. This document was discovered in a Monastery with copies of other ancient documents. According to the copy of the letter, the original letter from the consul was dated to the 12 year of the reign of the Emperor Tiberius. Scholars have historical verification that a certain Roman consul named Lentulus was in Judea at the time of Jesus' trial and crucifixion. His influential family is mentioned by the Jewish historian Josephus in his book Antiquities of the Jews. Scholars are divided, however, as to the authenticity of the letter. Lentulus' letter is presented an official report to the Emperor Tiberius. In his letter Lentulus describes the condemned man named Jesus of Nazareth as having: a noble and lively face, with fair and slightly wavy hair; black and strongly curving eyebrows, intense penetrating blue eyes and an expression of wondrous grace. His nose is rather long. His beard is almost blonde, although not very long. His hair is quite long, and has never seen a pair of scissors.....His neck is slightly inclined, so that he never appears to be bitter or arrogant. His tanned face is the color of ripe corn and well proportioned. It gives the impression of gravity and wisdom, sweetness and good, and is completely lacking in any sign of anger. (Holy Land Magazine, Franciscan Holy Land Press, Spring 1998). Whatever information Tiberius received concerning the strange progress of events concerning the death of this Jew, he was shaken enough to present a shocking suggestion to the Roman Senate. There is some historical evidence to support the claim that Tiberius was so convinced of Jesus' resurrection from the dead that he attempted to have Him declared a "god", but the Roman Senate refused to approve this provincial Jew's admission to the Roman pantheon of gods.
(Italics original) But the historicity of this description is disputed.

Mitchell was New York’s first true biographer; he paired a reporter’s precision with a novelist’s sense of narrative to create a series of intricate and revelatory profiles of the city in The New Yorker. An excavator of lost souls and eccentric visionaries, his genius lay partly in a natural ability to connect with those living on the margins of society. (A 1943 Times review of his work was wryly titled “Nostalgic Portraits of the Lunatic Fringe.”) He was a staff writer for the magazine for nearly thirty years and then spent another thirty coming into the office each day but failing to publish a single word. The mystery behind this blockage has nearly eclipsed Mitchell’s astounding literary legacy.

  105. Chicago Police Chief: Second Amendment Is A Danger To Public Safety

    Dana Loesch (Diary) | February 17th, 2013 at 07:21 PM |

Chicago’s Chief of Police, who previously blamed ”government-sponsored racism” and Sarah Palin for Chicago’s gun violence, declared that the law-ful exercise of the Second Amendment was a threat to public safety. From the Illinois State Rifle Association:

Chicago’s embattled police superintendent dug himself deeper into a pit of controversy today by claiming that lawful firearm owners are agents of political corruption. Appearing on a Chicago Sunday morning talk show, superintendent Garry McCarthy expressed his conviction that firearm owners who lobby their elected representatives or who donate money to political campaigns are engaged in corruption that endangers public safety. McCarthy went on to express his belief that judges and legislators should rely on public opinion polls when interpreting our Constitution.

After totally dismissing the citizen’s right to redress grievances, McCarthy trained his constitutional wisdom on the 2nd Amendment. Despite recent court decisions to the contrary, McCarthy opined that the 2ndAmendment limits citizens to owning smooth-bore muskets. McCarthy went on to say that he believes that the 2nd Amendment supports mandatory liability insurance for firearm owners and the mandatory application of GPS tracking devices to civilian owned firearms.

  106. Poised to overturn the Second Amendment

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO, February 17, 2013 — On Monday, the Colorado House will convene to consider, and will likely pass, four gun control laws that will strip Colorado citizens of their right to bear arms, guaranteed up until now by both the U.S. and Colorado Constitutions.

    The four laws are:

House Bill 1224 – Bans magazines with a capacity greater than fifteen rounds.

House Bill 1226 – Repeals current law allowing individuals with a concealed carry permit to carry a firearm for self-defense on a college or university campus.

House Bill 1228 – Imposes a “gun tax” for a background check when purchasing a firearm.

House Bill 1229 – Criminalizes the private transfer of a firearm.

  107. Much has been said about so-called “gun-free zones” created in the name of protecting people from gun violence.

As anyone open to evaluating overwhelming evidence should now be able to see, this evil and misguided idea is a total failure.

    That’s what Sandy Hook illustrates.

    That’s what Aurora illustrates.

    That’s what Columbine illustrates.

But let’s look at the other side of coin for a moment.

  110. “I’m ninety-four years old and I never yet had any peace, to speak of. My mind is just a turmoil of regrets. It’s not what I did I regret, it’s what I didn’t do. Except for the bottle, I always walked the straight and narrow; a family man, a good provider, never cut up, never did ugly, and I regret it. In the summer of 1902 I came real close to getting in serious trouble with a married woman, but I had a fight with my conscience and my conscience won, and what’s the result? I had two wives, good, Christian women, and I can’t hardly remember what either of them looked like, but I can remember the face on that woman so clear it hurts, and there’s never a day passes that I don’t think about her, and there’s never a day passes that I don’t curse myself. ‘What kind of a timid, dried-up, weevily fellow were you?’ I say to myself. ‘You should’ve said to hell with what’s right and what’s wrong, the devil take the hindmost. You’d have something to remember, you’d be happier now.’ She’s out in Woodlawn, six feet under, and she’s been there twenty-two years, God rest her, and here I am, just an old, old man with nothing left but a belly and a brain and a dollar or two.”

  115. Pelosi: ‘Enough with the Public Nudity. Please. We Have Our Standards’

(CNSNews.com) – House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) said, “Enough” with public nudity in San Francisco, adding, “Please. We have our standards.” She also encouraged people to attend the city’s Gay Pride Parade, remarking, “It’s fabulous, you’ll love it.”

San Francisco’s ban on public nudity went into effect on Feb. 1, but not without protests as four naked people were arrested on the steps of City Hall.

“Enough with the public nudity,” Pelosi said in an interview with The Huffington Post on Feb. 12.

    “Please. We have our standards.”

Under the ban, however, public nudity is still permitted for children younger than age 5 and at certain events like the city's Gay Pride Parade.

Though she says she’s had it with public nudity, Pelosi still encouraged people to attend the upcoming annual Gay Pride Parade on June 30.

“Come see our gay pride parade,” she said. “It's fabulous. You'll love it.”

“It's a lot of exposure, shall we say,” Pelosi said.

  117. Memo From Obama’s Justice Department Says Gun Ban Won’t Work Without Registration And Confiscation…

In this short video from the NRA, an internal Justice Department (the same Justice Department ran by Eric ‘Fast and Furious’ Holder), it is revealed that the Obama administrations own research shows that an assault weapons ban would only be effective with mandatory gun confiscation and that universal background checks would only be effective with federal gun registration.

  118. Imagine you are a perch. One day you notice that all the other perch around you are acting different. Previously timid and communal—as the species has been for millennia—they’ve become foolhardy, leaving the safety of the school to search alone for bits of zooplankton to eat, practically daring the birds and bass that prey on them to attack. In short, they’ve gone nuts.

Being a fish, you would not be terribly introspective, and in any event, it would be beyond your abilities to imagine the cause: that another species, one that lives, improbably, on land, suffers from problems called “anxiety” and “depression” because of its enormous brain (among other things). That animal has taken to eating exotic chemicals to change its behavior. It then excretes those chemicals into the water that you breathe so that you, too, are ingesting those chemicals. And they’re changing your behavior.

Among the latest victims of the new Islamist atmosphere in Egypt is the “first lady of Arabic song,” Umm Kulthum, who is regarded as the greatest female Arabic singer of the 20th century, or perhaps ever. She had hundreds of hits and was responsible for integrating Western and Arabic singing and musical styles. It was around her style of singing that the large orchestras today identified with Arabic music, sometimes consisting of many dozens of musicians, were developed. She was also a pioneer in Arabic film, starring in dozens of movies in which she sang love songs. Nearly 30 years after her death in 1975, her records still sell in the millions annually.

Whether because her songs were mostly secular in nature, or because she was a female, there have been calls among some of the more radical Islamists recently to ban her music. Although the current regime in Egypt has made no such call, numerous supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood, both on the internet and in Friday speeches in mosques, have called on Muslims to stop listening to her music.

While a ban is unlikely, Islamists have done what they apparently believe to be the next best thing – dressing Umm Kulthum in full female Arabic caftan, a “nikab.” The covering was placed on a statue of Umm Kulthum, in the Egyptian town of Mansoura. The incident apparently occurred over the weekend. Muslim Brotherhood supporters distributed photos over the Internet.
