One day the angels came

GOD bless and keep Gram. He was one of a kind and our leper knew him well.

How many people have friends that would steal their body from the authorities and take it to the desert from cremation understanding they might well end up in prison?

This alone tells me everything I need to know about Gram.

Well,...that and his parents didn't know how to spell his name properly.

Had to go get the kids a tree. Sigh. This year very few out there. I finally found a kinda forlorn little specimen from the fruit stand that only had four left. Ten bucks. I guess growers got tired of cutting their crops and only selling a few.

The most powerful company on the Internet just got a whole lot creepier: a new service from Google merges offline consumer info with online intelligence, allowing advertisers to target users based on what they do at the keyboard and at the mall.

Without much fanfare, Google announced news this week of a new advertising project, Conversions API, that will let businesses build all-encompassing user profiles based off of not just what users search for on the Web, but what they purchase outside of the home.

In a blog post this week on Google’s DoubleClick Search site, the Silicon Valley giant says that targeting consumers based off online information only allows advertisers to learn so much. “Conversions,” tech-speak for the digital metric made by every action a user makes online, are incomplete until coupled with real life data, Google says.

“We understand that online advertising also fuels offline conversions,” the blog post reads. Thus, Google says, “To capture these lost conversions and bring offline into your online world, we’re announcing the open beta of our Conversions API for uploading offline conversion automatically.”

  59. My AR 15 Is Not An Assault Rifle!

News Anchors, Reporters, and Commentators, over the past few days have spread the epidemic of stupid with their language and gun talk that clearly demonstrates most of them have scant knowledge on the subject of firearms.

I have listened to news people, who are PAID TO DELIVER FACTUAL INFORMATION TO THEIR VIEWERS, consistently refer to the AR 15 as a “HEAVY WEAPON… AN ASSAULT RIFLE”… An AUTOMATIC RIFLE… A WEAPON OF MASS DESTRUCTION.. Bill O’Reilly even questioned how Nancy Lanza could have legally acquired such a heavy weapon in a state with such strict gun control laws.

It is one thing to not have knowledge on a given subject yet earnestly seek it. That is commendable.
It is another to act and speak on that subject as if you are knowledgable, using wrong terminology with the intent to sensationalize or push a personal agenda.

My AR is not an assault rifle.
It is not an assault weapon.
It will never be used to criminally assault anyone.
My AR will only be used for defensive and sporting purposes.
It is simply a modern musket.

President Obama responded Friday to petitioners calling for more gun control, asking them for help in forging policies to help prevent shootings like the one that killed 20 children and six adults a week ago at an elementary school in Connecticut.

"I'm asking for your help to make a real meaningful difference in the lives of our communities and our country," Obama said in a video posted on the White House petition website. ... "We hear you," Obama said, noting that he has assigned Vice President Biden to develop proposals by the end of January.

Obama expressed support for legislation to revive the assault weapons ban, restrict high-capacity ammunition clips, and close loopholes that allow some buyers at gun shows to avoid background checks.

  98. Cuomo talks gun confiscation and mandatory "Buy back"

Mr. Cuomo, speaking on WGDJ-AM, said gun control had not recently been among the most discussed topics in the capital, so he had reached out to lawmakers to gauge where they stood before he made his proposals final.

He added that he was focusing his attention on changing state laws restricting the possession of assault weapons and high-capacity ammunition magazines. The governor described the state’s existing ban on those items as having “more holes than Swiss cheese.”

“I don’t think legitimate sportsmen are going to say, ‘I need an assault weapon to go hunting,’ ” he said. At the same time, he noted that he owns a shotgun that he has used for hunting, and said, “There is a balance here — I understand the rights of gun owners; I understand the rights of hunters.”

In the interview, Mr. Cuomo did not offer specifics about the measures he might propose, but, while discussing assault weapons, he said: “Confiscation could be an option. Mandatory sale to the state could be an option. Permitting could be an option — keep your gun but permit it.”

    http://www.nytimes.com/2012/12/21/nyregion/cuomo-says-he-will-outline-gun-measures-next-month.html?_r=1&

  99. Cuomo’s confiscation scheme follows remarks by liberal members of the establishment media who demand the government seize firearms from law-abiding citizens. Earlier this week, MSNBC’s Ed Schultz tweeted in favor of gun confiscation.

“We need to get guns and bullets and automatic weapons off the streets,” said CNN’s Don Lemon following the Sandy Hook massacre. “They should only be available to police officers and to hunt al-Qaeda and the Taliban and not hunt elementary school children.”

  110. Texas Schools Are Forcing Kids To Wear RFID Chips. Is That a Privacy Invasion?

Two San Antonio schools have joined others in Houston and Austin in requiring students to wear cards with radio-frequency identification (RFID) chips embedded in them, allowing administrators to track their whereabouts on campus.

The scheme, reported last month by Wired's Threat Level blog, is drawing fresh attention now that the school year has begun. Most students and parents have acquiesced to the tracking, accepting the schools' explanation that it will make students safer and help administrators more accurately report attendance. Since many public schools are funded in part based on their average daily attendance, the RFID trackers can bring in thousands or even millions more for a large district by allowing them to count students who are on campus but not at the morning roll call. The tags can only be read from on campus, so students aren't being tracked outside the building.

Still, a couple of students and parents have raised a fuss. Among them is a father named Steven Hernandez, who objects to the devices on Biblical grounds. He compares the RFID cards to the "mark of the beast" in the Book of Revelation, and his daughter has reportedly refused to wear them, despite the school's offer to remove the chip from her card. Some outlets report that she has been banned from voting for Homecoming king and queen as punishment, but that's not quite it. Pascual Gonzalez, communications director for the Northside Independent School District, told me that all students are required to present their ID in order to do various things on campus, including vote in student elections. The student in question declined to present hers.

  112. Dehumanizing uses. While there is an expectation of supervision and guidance in schools, monitoring the detailed behaviors of individuals can be demeaning. For example, RFID reading devices in school restrooms could monitor how long a student or teacher spends in a bathroom stall.

    • Violation of free speech and association. ... For example, students might avoid seeking counsel when they know their RFID tags will document their presence at locations like counselor and School Resource Officer (SRO) offices.

    • Conditioning to tracking and monitoring. Young people learn about the world and prepare for their futures while in school. Tracking and monitoring them in their development may condition them to accept constant monitoring and tracking of their whereabouts and behaviors. This could usher in a society that accepts this kind of treatment as routine rather than an encroachment of privacy and civil liberties.

  116. But after a few weeks of carrying and using the ID cards, students at Jones shrug when asked about the uproar.

Some have decorated their badges with stickers or dangle them from Hello Kitty lanyards.

Gonzalez, the school district's communications director, maintains
that students have never had an expectation of privacy on campus. "By
virtue of the fact that you are a student at a school, there is no privacy. ... It is our responsibility to know where every single one of those 3,000 students are while they are in our care during the school
    day."

San Francisco officials are planning to ban the possession of
hollow-point bullets and require notification of the police for any
single purchase of more than 500 rounds of ammunition.

According to the San Francisco Chronicle,
City Supervisor Malia Cohen is introducing the ordinance in response to
last Friday's deadly shooting in Connecticut of 20 school children.

San Francisco had previously sought a complete ban on
semi-automatic weapons within city limits, only to have it overturned by
    the courts.

Mayor Ed Lee and Police Chief Greg Suhr support the Cohen measure,
although they recognized the legislation could face legal challenges as
well. Nevertheless, Lee said, "We've got to do something more.”

“Ammunition designed especially for law enforcement and the military has no reason to be in our homes and on our streets,” he explained, adding that he supports the push at the federal and state level as well to expand gun control laws.

500 rounds? report to law enforcement. We toss that much ammo down range on a single visit for crying out loud! This is quickly getting nutzoid.

  138. Buffalo: Muslim gets 25 years for gagging, beating 10-year old stepson to death with rolling pin http://dlvr.it/2gQ8CL

Stripes TOLEDO, Ohio — A former Marine from Indiana admitted that he broke into a mosque in Ohio and set fire to a prayer rug because he wanted revenge for the killings of American troops overseas. Randy Linn pleaded guilty to hate crime charges, saying he’d become enraged after seeing images of wounded soldiers in the news.

Linn said he went room by room to make sure no one was in the building. “I was drinking a beer while I was doing that,” he said. A sprinkler system extinguished the blaze, leaving smoke and water damage in the prayer room of the facility, whose golden dome is a landmark along Interstate 75. No one was hurt.

52-year-old Randolph Linn of St. Joe, Indiana agreed to a 20 year sentence in federal prison yesterday for torching the Islamic Center of Greater Toledo on September 30. When Judge Jack Zouhary asked him, ‘Do you know any Muslims or do you know what Islam is?’

“Every day you turn on the TV, you see Muslims trying to kill Americans,” said Linn, a truck driver from St. Joe. When asked by a federal judge whether he thought all Muslims are terrorists, he answered: “I’d say most of them are.”

  140. A Broward judge ordered David Burch held without bond Thursday, saying he believed the 28-year-old man “intentionally terrorized” children at a Fort Lauderdale elementary school when he screamed and waved his arms at them.

Broward Circuit Court Judge John Hurley said he viewed Burch’s actions Wednesday near Bayview Elementary School against the backdrop of the Newtown, Connecticut school shooting last week.

Twenty-two children ages 7 and 8 were playing kickball on the field just south of the school when Burch, who was wearing camouflage pants, “started screaming and jumping up and down,” Fort Lauderdale Police Officer Rick Rhodes said in court. “The physical education teacher had all the kids run back into the school for their safety.

Jordan Fears Rise of Muslim Brotherhood in Syria

Official and reliable political sources revealed to Al-Hayat
that "the kingdom fears the continued rise of Brotherhood groups in the Arab world, and it dreads that once the current regime is overthrown, Syria would join this new Islamist alliance."

These sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity, confirmed that "any prospective influence of the Syrian Muslim Brotherhood will have a direct impact on Jordan's Brotherhood, and thus raise the ceiling of their reform demands, especially their call to undermine the powers of King Abdullah II."

The Huichol people (who refer to themselves as Wixáritari “the people”) live in the Sierra Madre Occidental range in the Mexican states of Nayarit, Jalisco, Zacatecas, and Durango.

Their cultural practices include animism, peyote ritual, and shamanism. Their yarn paintings (and bead paintings) are made by pressing dyed yarn into a substrate made of beeswax and pine pitch. Found at latinamericanfolkart.com, posted by ymutate

The family is going to fly up to NYC early this evening for Christmas in Connecticut for four days. My younger brother is going to get in for Christmas and we can spend a little time with me dear old Maw for a couple days while he's here. Maybe we can sneak off and go shooting while he's visiting. That would be fun.
