Americans should respond to the NRA’s arguments with: “The thing that stops the NRA with its pretzel logic is a citizen with good logic.”
The Declaration of Independence, supported by the US Constitution states: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.”
While all US citizens believe and support these decelerations to be universal and true the NRA responds by stating that there are “exceptions" for those who carry and own arms.
To counter the NRA’s arguments, it must be recognized that those armed with guns make an uneven playing field and violate the Right to “equality”:

While gun ownership is supported by the Second Amendment:
Those with guns = A violation of the Rights to “Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness” for those who do not have guns !!!

A new legislation should be called: “The Innocents’ Law.”
Funny, but here in Arizona where anyone can openly carry a firearm on one's hip and where the law was recently changed so that anyone can carry a concealed weapon I have not noticed any carnage as a result of people carrying concealed weapons - not what should be expected from a "scourge." And where are the statistics to show how dangerous it is to allow concealed weapons? I note that almost every state that allows concealed carry requires training, background checks, fingerprints, demonstration of firearms proficiency etc. to ensure that those who carry concealed weapons are qualified, trained and responsible.
If it is such a "burning issue", then why have gun laws been largely liberalized in most states over the past 10-15 years? Why did the assault weapons ban expire without so much as a whimper?

It was just past midnight when an armed man wearing a ski mask entered the store and forced Rogers and another store employee, Alicia Grabarczyk, 25, down a hallway toward an office where the safe was kept. With a concealed handgun in his front pocket, Rogers chose his moment of opportunity carefully. In one quick motion, Rogers pushed Grabarczyk to the floor and fired at the armed robber. He then helped Grabarczyk into the office and out of the line of fire. Although the burglar had been struck, Rogers saw him raise his firearm. While at home with his wife and daughter, a homeowner prepared to go outside to investigate a sudden power outage. His wife asked him to carry his firearm with him as a precaution. As he opened the front door to step outside, three men charged him in an attempt to gain entry. The homeowner pushed his wife aside as he fell backward and fired at the intruders. His daughter, a student in her early 20s, hid in another room and called police. One of the three home invaders suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was listed in serious condition. The remaining two suspects managed to escape. The homeowner and his family were not seriously injured. (Sun Sentinel, Miramar, FL, 10/2/12)
Kendra St. Clair, a 12-year-old at home alone one day during her fall break, called her mother at work to say there was a man repeatedly ringing the doorbell and banging on the door. When no one answered the door, she said he disappeared. St. Clair’s mother instructed her daughter to get her .40-cal. Glock pistol and go into a bathroom closet. St. Clair heard him break in through the back door. As the man made his way through her home, 911 dispatchers kept St. Clair on the phone. He was inside the home for approximately six minutes before he made his way to the bathroom where St. Clair was hiding. When she saw the door knob begin to turn, she fired the gun. The 32-year-old intruder was taken into custody after being treated for a gunshot to the chest. (The Oklahoman, Durant, OK, 10/20/12)
In the real world, those places where people tend to congregate are typically gun free zones, and exactly where crazy people bent upon committing mass murder before suicide target. More often, college campuses, churches, state parks, malls, bars, restaurants, movie theaters, and so many other places are off limits for those with concealed carry permits, either through state restrictions, federal restrictions, or business restrictions. In North Carolina, the restrictions are:
Any location prohibited by federal law.
A law enforcement of correctional facility.
A building housing only state, federal or government offices.
A financial institution.
Any public or private school building or bus, campus, grounds, recreation area, athletic fields or other property used or owned by an educational institution.
Any assembly where a fee had been charged for admission or where alcoholic beverages are sold and consumed.
Any other premises where notice that carrying a concealed handgun is prohibited by the posting of a conspicuous notice or statement by the person in legal possession or control of the premises.
It shall be unlawful for any person participating in, affiliated with, or present as a spectator at any parade, funeral procession, picket line, or demonstration upon any public place owned or under the control of the state or any of its political subdivisions to willfully or intentionally possess or have immediate access to any firearm.
It is further against the law to carry while under the effects of alcohol or drugs, except in cases of certain legally obtained drugs (like flu medicine) as long as the drugs do not cause impairment. Most States’ concealed carry laws are similar. And where do most of these mass killings tend to occur? In places where there are lots of gazelles. Or, perhaps we should say where there are lots of sheep, and sheep dogs are not allowed.
When a homeowner heard noises coming from the first floor of his home, he called out. After a 25-year ban, California sea otters are now free to float along the entire coast without being captured and hauled back to Northern California.
The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service ended its “Southern Sea Otter Translocation Program” on Tuesday, Dec. 18, which forbid otters from paddling south of Point Conception — where the Santa Barbara Channel meets the Pacific Ocean — to the Mexican border.
The "No-Otter" Zone was established in 1987 as a way to manage dwindling otter populations. The adorable-faced marine mammal once numbered 16,000-strong until they were hunted to near extinction, mostly for fur, at the beginning of the 20th century.
Out of fear that an environmental disaster, like an oil spill, might wipe out what was left of the mainland population, 140 otters were moved to California's San Nicolas Island in hopes of building a backup population. An otter-free zone was also set up as a concession to commercial fisherman who bemoaned the animal's impact on shellfish stocks (otters really like to eat sea urchin, crab, clams, mussels and sails).
A large number of marble headstones from a Jewish cemetery destroyed during the Nazi occupation of the Thessaloniki in World War II have been found. Greek police recovered 668 fragments after finding them buried in a plot of land in the center of the city. A Not so Merry Christmas for Middle Eastern Christians
BEIRUT — With Christmas just days away, 40-year-old Mira begged her parents to flee their hometown of Aleppo, which has become a main battleground in Syria's civil war.
Her parents have refused to join her in Lebanon, but they are taking one simple precaution inside their besieged city. For the first time, Mira says, her parents will not put up a Christmas tree this year for fear that their religion might make them a target.
"They want to stay to guard the property so nobody takes it," said Mira, who spoke to The Associated Press in Lebanon on condition that only her first name be published, out of concern for her family.
"They cannot celebrate Christmas properly. It's not safe. They are in a Christian area, but they don't feel secure to put a tree, even inside their apartment," Mira said.
Christians, who make up about 10 percent of Syria's population of more than 22 million, say they are particularly vulnerable to the violence that has been sweeping the country since March 2011. They are fearful that Syria will become another Iraq, with Christians caught in the crossfire between rival Islamic groups.

One of the dogs ran off tonight just as I was preparing to serve dinner. Two hours later, after I had walked every inch of our property looking for her, walked up and down the road looking for her and we drove two square miles around the house looking for her, we came home prepared to go out on the four-wheeler looking for her, thinking she must be down and hurt (or worse). She was sitting at the base of the back steps, waiting.

KABUL, Afghanistan — An Afghan policewoman shot and killed an American adviser outside the police headquarters in Kabul on Monday, the latest in a rising tide of insider attacks by Afghans against their foreign allies, senior Afghan officials said.
The woman, identified as Afghan police Sgt. Nargas, had entered a strategic compound in the heart of the capital and shot the adviser with a pistol as he came out of a small shop with articles he had just bought, Kabul Governor Abdul Jabar Taqwa told The Associated Press.
The woman was taken into Afghan custody shortly after the attack.
Earlier, she had asked bystanders where the governor's office was located, the governor said. As many Afghans, the policewoman uses only one name.
New York can’t afford assault rifle buyback - it could cost the state $1B

New York state can’t afford to confiscate all the assault rifles out there.
The number of such military-style weapons in the state — including the New York-made Bushmaster used in the Sandy Hook massacre — is at least 1 million, far higher than even some local criminal-justice experts realize, gun-industry experts say.
And given that the weapons are worth $1,000 or more apiece, a buyback would cost the state at least $1 billion, since even Cuomo administration officials concede that their owners would have to be compensated financially.
“The cost of confiscation would make it impracticable, if there’s anything approaching a million of them, putting aside the other issues that would be involved,’’ said one Cuomo administration source.
Last week, Gov. Cuomo suggested during a radio interview that “confiscation could be an option’’ when developing a newly restrictive policy on assault-style rifles.
While a Cuomo aide estimated their number at just 30,000, industry experts who have firsthand knowledge of gun sales in New York over many years say there are “at least’’ a million semiautomatic rifles modeled on the military’s M16s legally in the hands of New Yorkers.
Unlike the millions of legally licensed handguns that are possessed by 1 million New York residents, the exact number of legally possessed semiautomatic assault rifles is not known because owners do not have to register them.
“Cuomo is talking about confiscating our guns, and I’m not going to let him take mine,’’ said a customer who purchased a Springfield M1A, a semiautomatic version of the military’s M14 rifle.

Amid talk of reinstating the assault weapons ban that expired eight years ago, police departments nationwide are thinking of ways to confiscate such weapons.
As WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond reported, among the departments considering taking action is the NYPD. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said if Congress were to reinstate the ban, police are wondering whether it will be their responsibility to confiscate them.
“I think that is a big, big question,” Kelly said. “Do you engage in a buyback?”
Kelly said the NYPD’s existing gun buyback has been successful.
“We’re up to about in two years, about 8500 weapons now, and that’s a significant number,” Kelly said.
But Kelly said with hundreds of millions of guns out there, buybacks are just one small part of curbing gun violence.
President Barack Obama and other lawmakers have come out in favor of re-implementing the assault weapons ban, as well as limits on the size of clips that can be used.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg has previously said the expiration of the ban has allowed weapons of war back onto the streets.
While Mayor Bloomberg said it is right for President Obama to console the grieving in Newtown, on the assault weapons ban he says it’s time for the president to stand up and lead.
Bloomberg noted that New York state has some of the toughest gun laws in the country and New York City has the lowest murder rate of any big American city.
Bloomberg is a long-time gun advocate who started “Mayors Against Guns,” which now has more than 700 members. He has been lobbying for:
Renewal of the assault weapon ban. Required background checks for every gun sold right now — 40 percent of all guns are sold without background checks. Stronger enforcement of straw sales, where someone buys a gun for someone not eligible to own one. A requirement that states enter criminal and mental health records into the federal background check system.
The mayor said a shooting rampage like the one at Sandy Hook Elementary “only happens in America.”
Adam Lanza used a Bushmaster .223 assault rifle to kill 26 people inside the school, including 20 children. Police said Lanza did not use the two handguns he also had with him.

I was so sick that I rescheduled the family knock down and drag out for the 29th so I would be all better....now it looks like I am coming down with the chest part of the thing so who knows. If I am too sick I will have to cancel on the family gathering...this has been a weird weird hollerday season. I do not feel well at all. And Amazon still needs to deliver most of the kid's junk...Sigh. Sometimes you just can't.
I am profoundly grateful for a lot of things, not the least of which is the kids are so neat. So smart. So nice even if some of them have blue hair. Bird didn't die in the basement or fall when I wasn't home. Stuff like that. Pretty basic but good.

GovCo spent a lot of time and money to teach me how to break things and kill people, yet as a civilian, I've only had to deploy a side arm in self-defense twice in nearly 30 years. Thankfully I did not have to shoot anyone.

It was just past midnight when an armed man wearing a ski mask entered the store and forced Rogers and another store employee, Alicia Grabarczyk, 25, down a hallway toward an office where the safe was kept. With a concealed handgun in his front pocket, Rogers chose his moment of opportunity carefully. In one quick motion, Rogers pushed Grabarczyk to the floor and fired at the armed robber. As he opened the front door to step outside, three men charged him in an attempt to gain entry. The homeowner pushed his wife aside as he fell backward and fired at the intruders. His daughter, a student in her early 20s, hid in another room and called police. One of the three home invaders suffered multiple gunshot wounds and was listed in serious condition. The remaining two suspects managed to escape. The homeowner and his family were not seriously injured. (Sun Sentinel, Miramar, FL, 10/2/12)
Kendra St. Clair, a 12-year-old at home alone one day during her fall break, called her mother at work to say there was a man repeatedly ringing the doorbell and banging on the door. When no one answered the door, she said he disappeared. St. Clair’s mother instructed her daughter to get her .40-cal. Glock pistol and go into a bathroom closet. St. Clair heard him break in through the back door. As the man made his way through her home, 911 dispatchers kept St. Clair on the phone. He was inside the home for approximately six minutes before he made his way to the bathroom where St. Clair was hiding. When she saw the door knob begin to turn, she fired the gun. In the real world, those places where people tend to congregate are typically gun free zones, and exactly where crazy people bent upon committing mass murder before suicide target. More often, college campuses, churches, state parks, malls, bars, restaurants, movie theaters, and so many other places are off limits for those with concealed carry permits, either through state restrictions, federal restrictions, or business restrictions. In North Carolina, the restrictions are:

A building housing only state, federal or government offices.
A financial institution.
Any public or private school building or bus, campus, grounds, recreation area, athletic fields or other property used or owned by an educational institution.
Any assembly where a fee had been charged for admission or where alcoholic beverages are sold and consumed.
Any other premises where notice that carrying a concealed handgun is prohibited by the posting of a conspicuous notice or statement by the person in legal possession or control of the premises.
It shall be unlawful for any person participating in, affiliated with, or present as a spectator at any parade, funeral procession, picket line, or demonstration upon any public place owned or under the control of the state or any of its political subdivisions to willfully or intentionally possess or have immediate access to any firearm.
It is further against the law to carry while under the effects of alcohol or drugs, except in cases of certain legally obtained drugs (like flu medicine) as long as the drugs do not cause impairment. Most States’ concealed carry laws are similar. And where do most of these mass killings tend to occur? In places where there are lots of gazelles. Or, perhaps we should say where there are lots of sheep, and sheep dogs are not allowed.

The 28-year-old gunship co-pilot was called on to unleash a missile strike to eliminate a senior terror leader.
Harry has proved a massive hit with comrades in Helmand, Afghanistan, who have nicknamed him Big H.
A defence insider said: “Big H is a legend.
“We were on patrol and the Apache helicopters were called in. We heard this posh voice come over the radio and knew it was Big H. They were tracking a Taliban leader — he was commander level.

ReplyDeleteThe U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service ended its “Southern Sea Otter Translocation Program” on Tuesday, Dec. 18, which forbid otters from paddling south of Point Conception — where the Santa Barbara Channel meets the Pacific Ocean — to the Mexican border.
The "No-Otter" Zone was established in 1987 as a way to manage dwindling otter populations. The adorable-faced marine mammal once numbered 16,000-strong until they were hunted to near extinction, mostly for fur, at the beginning of the 20th century.
Out of fear that an environmental disaster, like an oil spill, might wipe out what was left of the mainland population, 140 otters were moved to California's San Nicolas Island in hopes of building a backup population. An otter-free zone was also set up as a concession to commercial fisherman who bemoaned the animal's impact on shellfish stocks (otters really like to eat sea urchin, crab, clams, mussels and sails).

A large number of marble headstones from a Jewish cemetery destroyed during the Nazi occupation of the Thessaloniki in World War II have been found. Greek police recovered 668 fragments after finding them buried in a plot of land in the center of the city. This is a find of major significance as the authorities have been searching since the end of the war for the remains of Jewish gravestones desecrated, broken and scattered by the Nazis and their local supporters.

Her parents have refused to join her in Lebanon, but they are taking one simple precaution inside their besieged city. For the first time, Mira says, her parents will not put up a Christmas tree this year for fear that their religion might make them a target.
"They want to stay to guard the property so nobody takes it," said Mira, who spoke to The Associated Press in Lebanon on condition that only her first name be published, out of concern for her family.
"They cannot celebrate Christmas properly. It's not safe. They are in a Christian area, but they don't feel secure to put a tree, even inside their apartment," Mira said.
Christians, who make up about 10 percent of Syria's population of more than 22 million, say they are particularly vulnerable to the violence that has been sweeping the country since March 2011. They are fearful that Syria will become another Iraq, with Christians caught in the crossfire between rival Islamic groups.

Two hours later, after I had walked every inch of our property looking for her, walked up and down the road looking for her and we drove two square miles around the house looking for her, we came home prepared to go out on the four-wheeler looking for her, thinking she must be down and hurt (or worse). She was sitting at the base of the back steps, waiting.
We ate lukewarm, overcooked food at 8 PM and I've been behind schedule ever since. I'm doing laundry at 1:30 AM. Oy to the vey.

New York can’t afford assault rifle buyback - it could cost the state $1B

New York state can’t afford to confiscate all the assault rifles out there.
The number of such military-style weapons in the state — including the New York-made Bushmaster used in the Sandy Hook massacre — is at least 1 million, far higher than even some local criminal-justice experts realize, gun-industry experts say.
And given that the weapons are worth $1,000 or more apiece, a buyback would cost the state at least $1 billion, since even Cuomo administration officials concede that their owners would have to be compensated financially.
“The cost of confiscation would make it impracticable, if there’s anything approaching a million of them, putting aside the other issues that would be involved,’’ said one Cuomo administration source.
Last week, Gov. Cuomo suggested during a radio interview that “confiscation could be an option’’ when developing a newly restrictive policy on assault-style rifles.
While a Cuomo aide estimated their number at just 30,000, industry experts who have firsthand knowledge of gun sales in New York over many years say there are “at least’’ a million semiautomatic rifles modeled on the military’s M16s legally in the hands of New Yorkers.
Unlike the millions of legally licensed handguns that are possessed by 1 million New York residents, the exact number of legally possessed semiautomatic assault rifles is not known because owners do not have to register them.

ReplyDeleteAmid talk of reinstating the assault weapons ban that expired eight years ago, police departments nationwide are thinking of ways to confiscate such weapons.
As WCBS 880’s Marla Diamond reported, among the departments considering taking action is the NYPD. Police Commissioner Ray Kelly said if Congress were to reinstate the ban, police are wondering whether it will be their responsibility to confiscate them.
“I think that is a big, big question,” Kelly said. “Do you engage in a buyback?”
Kelly said the NYPD’s existing gun buyback has been successful.
“We’re up to about in two years, about 8500 weapons now, and that’s a significant number,” Kelly said.
But Kelly said with hundreds of millions of guns out there, buybacks are just one small part of curbing gun violence.
President Barack Obama and other lawmakers have come out in favor of re-implementing the assault weapons ban, as well as limits on the size of clips that can be used.
Mayor Michael Bloomberg has previously said the expiration of the ban has allowed weapons of war back onto the streets.
While Mayor Bloomberg said it is right for President Obama to console the grieving in Newtown, on the assault weapons ban he says it’s time for the president to stand up and lead.
Bloomberg noted that New York state has some of the toughest gun laws in the country and New York City has the lowest murder rate of any big American city.
Bloomberg is a long-time gun advocate who started “Mayors Against Guns,” which now has more than 700 members. He has been lobbying for:
Renewal of the assault weapon ban.
Required background checks for every gun sold right now — 40 percent of all guns are sold without background checks.
Stronger enforcement of straw sales, where someone buys a gun for someone not eligible to own one.
A requirement that states enter criminal and mental health records into the federal background check system.
The mayor said a shooting rampage like the one at Sandy Hook Elementary “only happens in America.”
Adam Lanza used a Bushmaster .223 assault rifle to kill 26 people inside the school, including 20 children. Police said Lanza did not use the two handguns he also had with him.

ReplyDeleteAfter he came here and typed here I AM GLAD I LEFT THIS HATE SITE out of the blue sky I wrote asking what the fuck was that, and he said he loved me.... I said if you love me why did you write that? The explanation he gave made no sense. I told him this. Never heard from him again. Then some people sent me threads where he is happy posting at the Blogmocracy. So that's all I know. This many weeks ago already so I do not know what goes on recently.

If I am too sick I will have to cancel on the family gathering...this has been a weird weird hollerday season. I do not feel well at all. And Amazon still needs to deliver most of the kid's junk...Sigh. Sometimes you just can't.
