Hollywood-style robots able to shoot people without permission from their human
handlers are a real possibility and must be banned before governments start

I am an eyewitness. As for proof, there is much evidence; in 2006 when Israel tried to invade south Lebanon, [then Supreme Guide] Mahdi Akef at the lawyers union said that the brotherhood has “10,000 trained young men that we can send to Lebanon to fight the Israelis.”

Anyone who thinks cannot be a part of the brotherhood because it is a military group; it has a military way of thinking.

You do not have to think, for it is done for you. You only have to implement. The Brotherhood only grants high ranks to those who can implement; executive personalities who implement but do not think. Has the Brotherhood got any famous writers, poets, scientists? It is proof enough that they are unable to produce any because they do not allow creative thinking.

Foreign Secretary William Hague has said the UK has decided to recognise the Syrian opposition coalition.

    http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-politics-20406562

Syria's increasingly powerful Islamist rebel factions rejected the country's new Western-backed opposition coalition and unilaterally declared an Islamic state in the key battleground of Aleppo, a sign of the seemingly intractable splits among those fighting to topple President Bashar Assad.

Representatives from 13 Islamist factions, some dressed in military uniform, released a video statement of them rejecting the coalition. A Quran is prominently placed in front of a man reading the statement and on occasion the crowd breaks into chants of "Allah Akbar" or "God is Great." It wasn't clear how many fighters the factions represent, but they included one prominent militant group, Jabhat al-Nusra, an al Qaeda affiliate.

"We reached a consensus on the establishment of a just Islamic state and the rejection of any foreign plan from coalitions or councils imposed on those of us inside [Syria] no matter which side it [intervention] comes from," the man reading the statement said in the video, which was sent to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, an activist group based in London.

  40. (CNSNews.com) - Treasury Secretary Timothy Geithner said Friday that Congress should stop placing legal limits on the amount of money the government can borrow and effectively lift the debt limit to infinity.

On Bloomberg TV, “Political Capital” host Al Hunt asked Geithner if he believes “we ought to just eliminate the debt ceiling.”

New Debt Ceilings Are a New Spending Floor
—apologies to Paul Simon, and “One Man’s Ceiling is Another Man’s Floor”

There is a debt ceiling here
Because we’re deeply in the red
And there’s some hard feeling on
    The Congress floors
    Because the Tea Party oppose
    What the Democrats propose
To raise taxes and to spend a lot more
    It’s just those no-budget blues
And when you spend without rules
    A raised debt ceiling
    Is a new spending floor
    A raised debt ceiling
    Is a new spending floor

    Where did the Stimulus go?
    Don’t you ask the CBO
    No shovel-ready jobs materialized
    They say that the economy
    Has had a big recovery
But instead I believe my own eyes
    They want to savage defense
    And bloat up entitlements
    Remember new debt ceilings
    Are a new spending floor
    New debt ceilings
    Are a new spending floor

But the economy could be rebuilding
If Congress would just reshuffle the game
Stop spending more than it makes
No matter how much it takes
    Regulatory agencies must be tamed

    [Instrumental interlude]

New debt ceilings are a new spending floor
    You bet
New debt ceilings are a new spending floor…

It pre-emptively acknowledges its own failure to accomplish anything meaningful. No attack can be set against it, as it has already conquered itself. The ironic frame functions as a shield against criticism. The same goes for ironic living. Irony is the most self-defensive mode, as it allows a person to dodge responsibility for his or her choices, aesthetic and otherwise. To live ironically is to hide in public. It is flagrantly indirect, a form of subterfuge, which means etymologically to “secretly flee” (subter + fuge). Somehow, directness has become unbearable to us.

I hadn't seen Chester the cat for a couple of days and was starting to get worried. The last time I saw him was when he puked up a mouse in my garage Saturday as I was trying to get ready to watch my daughter in The Nutcracker.

I spent all day Sunday getting leaves up off of the lawn and noticed that our crawl space door was opened, so I closed it. I figured one contractor or another simply forgot to secure the door.

I'm having a smoke a few minutes ago trying to remember the last time I'd seen Chester and it dawned on me to check the door to the crawl space. I called out to him and he emerged from the crawl space, hungry as hell also I'd imagine.

I fed him (too much probably) and he's got access to water. I look at this as an act of GOD intervening in my life for the benefit of that silly cat. The guilt I would have felt over that would have been too much for me.

The idea that Obama could turn the US into a

They own Congress. Do you really think that the CEO of Lockheed-Martin wants to see the company nationalized and himself put on a federal salary? Oh sure, any day now.In fact, I expect it by nightfall.

A state of emergency is declared at the Israeli defense ministry and high command which are located opposite the stricken bus. - A bomb exploded near a Syriac Orthodox Church in Aleppo at 6 PM on Friday, November 16. Scores of people were injured and killed. Estimates put the number killed between 20 and 80. The bomb damaged the Al Kalima school and the Syrian French Hospital, as well as a nursing home. This
is the third attack in four weeks in the New Assyrian Quarter in Aleppo. The first occurred on October 21 (AINA 10-24-2012), the second on October 26 (AINA 10-26-2012).

This video report from Al Ikhabirya discusses the fear and terror inflicted on the Assyrians (also known as Chaldeans and Syriacs) by the Syrian rebels in the New Assyrian Quarter.

Arsonists attacked and threw Molotov cocktails at Al Jazeera Mubashir Misr channel’s office in the Egyptian capital on the third day of anti-government protests in central Cairo.

The office overlooking Tahrir Square, the scene of three days of protests, caught fire and was destroyed, footage broadcast by the Cairo-based channel showed. Earlier today, protesters beat up Cairo security chief Osama El-Sagheer as police clashed with hundreds of protesters at the square.

Police used tear gas to repel the demonstrators, who assembled to mark similar rallies a year ago in which 45 people were killed. At least 72 people have been injured in the past three days, the state-run Ahram Gate website reported.

'Lord of the Rings' volcano erupts in New Zealand

    http://phys.org/news/2012-11-lord-volcano-erupts-zealand.html

A New Zealand volcano used as a backdrop to "The Lord of the Rings" films erupted on Wednesday, spewing a column of ash three kilometres (1.9 miles) above the North Island, scientists said.

Vulcanologists said Mount Tongariro rumbled to life at 1:25 pm (0025 GMT), in a five-minute burst that briefly closed roads, put aviation authorities on high alert and sent nearby hikers scrambling for safety.

"It was completely unexpected, there were no warning signs beforehand," a spokeswoman for official monitoring service GNS Science told AFP.

"We were watching (neighbouring volcano) Ruapehu waiting for an eruption and instead this came out of nowhere."

Villagers in Dorset thought they must be mistaken after sightings of a creature dubbed the Beaminster Polar Bear. The shy white animal has since been identified as an albino badger. Wildlife photographer Colin Varndell's search for the elusive creature had lasted for nearly a year. So when he was told of a white creature seen on a garden lawn in
Bearminster, Dorset, he set up camp. Colin had to wait four more nights before he was rewarded when the sandy-coloured creature finally made an appearance

Those of us who lived through 9/11 recall the controversy over George W. Bush's domestic response to it, especially the PATRIOT Act. Circa 2003, here is how the authors described its adoption:

As part of his efforts to protect the American people from further terrorist attacks, President Bush created the Office of Homeland Security to coordinate the dozens of federal agencies working to prevent terrorism. He then appointed Pennsylvania Governor Tom Ridge to serve as the agency's director. The President also asked Congress to pass legislation to help law enforcement agencies track down terrorist suspects. Drafting the legislation took time. Congress had to balance Americans' Fourth Amendment protections against unreasonable search and seizure with the need to increase security. President Bush signed the new antiterrorist bill - known as the USA Patriot Act - into law in October 2001. The new law allowed secret searches to avoid tipping off suspects in terrorism cases. It also allowed authorities to obtain a single nationwide search warrant that could be used anywhere. The law also made it easier to wiretap suspects, and it allowed authorities to track e-mail and seize voicemail.

I wouldn't expect any more objective historical perspective in a high school history book from 2003 than I would in the treatment of (the sainted) President Kennedy in my history books in the 1960s. The bigger concern is revisionism. I know now, for example, that WWII was won by Rosie the Riveter, the Tuskeegee Airmen and the Navaho Code Talkers. The other 8 million Americans in uniform were just there as Segregationists.

    first comment, yeah

    Damned Jooooooz!

Well, the neighborhood bully, he’s just one man
His enemies say he’s on their land
They got him outnumbered about a million to one
He got no place to escape to, no place to run
    He’s the neighborhood bully

The neighborhood bully just lives to survive
He’s criticized and condemned for being alive
He’s not supposed to fight back, he’s supposed to have thick skin
He’s supposed to lay down and die when his door is kicked in
    He’s the neighborhood bully

The neighborhood bully been driven out of every land
He’s wandered the earth an exiled man
Seen his family scattered, his people hounded and torn
He’s always on trial for just being born
    He’s the neighborhood bully

Well, he knocked out a lynch mob, he was criticized
Old women condemned him, said he should apologize.
Then he destroyed a bomb factory, nobody was glad
The bombs were meant for him. He was supposed to feel bad
    He’s the neighborhood bully

Well, the chances are against it and the odds are slim
That he’ll live by the rules that the world makes for him
’Cause there’s a noose at his neck and a gun at his back
And a license to kill him is given out to every maniac
    He’s the neighborhood bully

He got no allies to really speak of
What he gets he must pay for, he don’t get it out of love
He buys obsolete weapons and he won’t be denied
But no one sends flesh and blood to fight by his side
    He’s the neighborhood bully

Well, he’s surrounded by pacifists who all want peace
They pray for it nightly that the bloodshed must cease
Now, they wouldn’t hurt a fly. To hurt one they would weep
They lay and they wait for this bully to fall asleep
    He’s the neighborhood bully

Every empire that’s enslaved him is gone
Egypt and Rome, even the great Babylon
He’s made a garden of paradise in the desert sand
In bed with nobody, under no one’s command
    He’s the neighborhood bully

Now his holiest books have been trampled upon
No contract he signed was worth what it was written on
He took the crumbs of the world and he turned it into wealth
Took sickness and disease and he turned it into health
    He’s the neighborhood bully

What’s anybody indebted to him for?
Nothin’, they say. He just likes to cause war
Pride and prejudice and superstition indeed
They wait for this bully like a dog waits to feed
    He’s the neighborhood bully

What has he done to wear so many scars?
Does he change the course of rivers? Does he pollute the moon and stars?
Neighborhood bully, standing on the hill
Running out the clock, time standing still
    Neighborhood bully

And what is even more surprising is the fact that the mainstream Western press does not save for those Islamists even a tiny bit of the vitriol that it expends on Russia and China for their skepticism about the pro-rebel foreign intervention in Syria and the “Arab Spring” in general. There is no remorse or modesty and, in fact, very little memory. After all, Moscow warned about the “bloodbath” in Iraq, the “chaos” in Libya and the Islamist presence in Syrian opposition long before the Western mainstream media discovered these things for itself.

The dummies, called EyeSee, has a camera installed with facial recognition software in its eye socket. The technology allows it to log the gender, age and race of passers-by, according to Bloomberg.
