Syrian War Threatens to Spread to Neighbors
With deaths in Turkey, shelling in Lebanon and skirmishes on the border with Jordan, it is clear the war in Syria has begun to spill over to into neighboring states. The longer the crisis lasts, the greater the danger becomes of a major regional escalation. http://www.spiegel.de/international/

ANGELES (AP) - R. B. Greaves, a pop singer who had a 1969 hit with "Take a Letter, Maria," has died in Los Angeles. He was 68.

The coroner's office says Ronald Bertram Greaves died of prostate cancer on Sept. 27 at his home.

"Take a Letter, Maria," about a man's final letter to his cheating wife, hit No. 2 on the Billboard chart and went gold. The song, with its soul style and brassy horn edge, went on to sell more than 2.5 million copies and remains a popular oldie.

Greaves also broke into the Top 40 in 1970 with his version of "(There's) Always Something There to Remind Me."

His career flagged in the 1970s, however.

Greaves was a nephew of the legendary R&B singer Sam Cooke. http://www.legacy.com/obituaries/orangecounty/obituary.aspx?n=r-b-greaves&pid=160269591#fbLoggedOut

Iranian media is quoting Israeli reports suggesting the drone downed by
Israel on Saturday was sent by Hezbollah in cooperation with Iran. Iranian
reports stress that the infiltration indicates a failure in Israel's aerial
    defenses.

"Iron Dome was proven at its deficiency" said Iranian website Javan

Will Egypt seize Libya for its oil? Given Egypt’s political ideology, its history with its neighbours, and its material needs, this must be a live issue.
First, Egypt’s needs. Since the Arab Spring began almost two years ago, the Egyptian economy has been collapsing. Egypt’s foreign currency reserves have more than halved and many expect the Egyptian pound, already at its lowest point in eight years, to be devalued. Discontent is widespread. According to Gulf News, “In the past three months, Egypt has experienced increased power cuts that sometimes last for hours, while a fuel and diesel crisis has at times paralyzed the country, with mile-long queues forming outside petrol stations.” The black market price for gas canisters is 10 times higher than the official selling price; for bread it’s five times higher. http://opinion.financialpost.com/2012/10/05/will-egypt-seize-libya-for-its-oil/

The Muslim Brotherhood government desperately needs a $4.8-billion IMF bailout to stop the bleeding but it refuses to curtail its subsidies, as the IMF demands, for fear of triggering a popular revolt. It is instead hoping for aid from oil states and the U.S. government, but even if this materializes, it will be at best a stopgap. With tourists, the country’s chief source of foreign exchange, steering clear of Egypt because of its anti-Western riots, and with foreign investors equally fearful of venturing into the country, Egypt’s options are daily becoming more limited. The temptation to look next door to Libya could be irresistible, particularly since Egypt views union with Libya as inevitable

Bombshell: The Obama State Department withdrew a 16 member special forces team from Benghazi one month before the deadly attacks on 9-11. Lt. Col. Andy Wood was the leader of the 16 member special forces team whose job it was to protect US personnel in Libya. His team’s mission ended in August a month before the deadly Al-Qaeda attack on 9-11. A six member mobile security team was also withdrawn around the same time. This was despite the fact that there were over a dozen attacks in the country this year. Lt. Col. Wood was subpoenaed to appear at a House committee hearing this coming week. Wood told CBS News it was unbelievable to him that the State Department withdrew security when they did because of the 13 security incidents before 9-11. http://www.thegatewaypundit.com/

Hmm. You can dislike Israel all you want, but you should realize that a
lot of the things you mention are somewhat deviated from the facts.
Foreign aid for Israel was part of the Camp David accord given to both
Israel and Egypt and is spent in AMERICA. its basically a way for the US
government to invest 3 billion dollars a year back into america, by
"giving" money to another country and then that money has to be spent
buying arms in America. So it provides many jobs for the defense
industry and if you decided to cancel that aid, the first people who
would cry about it would be the american defense companies. Not that
this is a good thing, but you should realize that this is an issue
relating to the military industrial complex and their domination of
politics, as eisenhower mentioned in the 1950s. That money was also
spent to counter weight Soviet money and arms that was spent on Egypt
and Syria from 1967 - 1990 and again was part of AMERICAN foreign policy
to counter the Soviets, and similar to american foreign policy to aid
anti Soviet governments around the world.... for instance, the Marshall
plan after world war 2 spent billions of dollar to rehabilitate western
europe directly for the same reason. One additional point is that there
are no American troops in Israel, there never have been, and America has
never fought FOR israel. This unlike the 35,000 troops in South Korea
who will be involved in a North South war, the thousands of troops
stationed in Germany since world war 2 during the cold war, or the
thousands who died in Vietnam. And finally, as for Netanyahu and his
involvement in the US election...that is somewhat a matter of opinion as
to whether he did so or not, however it is a reflection of him, and not
of Israel. Israel did not get involved in the election, Netanyahu did.
Some of your other points, for instance about israeli officials
investigated for corruption -- sure, Israel is extremely aggressive
about investigating officials for corruption, and has a special
ombudsman (non elected official) who heads an office for this. Again,
does the investigation of corrupt officials indicate a problem with
Israel? Perhaps in other countries corrupt officials skate by....?
Finally, your issue about the subway posters in New York have again
nothing to do with Israel, but with a person and an organization who put
up those posters. So perhaps your article should be that you dislike a
lot of the political supporters of Israel and their actions. But you
really did not say very much about Israel as a whole. Perhaps you should
visit the country and see. You might find its not much different than
most of the rest of the world.

29th anniversary is in 15 days. Wikipedia says 10/23, but we were 7 hours head because of time zones.

The French barracks were leveled. 58 dead there.

    I'm still pissed.

Hello, Feral ones. I'm brought to you tonight courtesy of the hooplewanky device since our power wen out about an hour and a half ago. Is dark in here! The only major crisis was when I put down my wine glass and couldn't find it again, OY!!

I was able to locate my Cabela's cap with lighted brim and was then able to find my wine , so all is well.

Does your hoople have a flashlight app? I think my new one does, the old one did. Very bright. Are you having storms?

No, we think someone must have hit a transformer or power pole. Right after the lights went out my neighbor the Fire Chief went flying by the house, lights and sirens. I'll hear fairly soon what the issue is. Small town and all that.

    http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/norway/9592433/Anders-Behring-Breiviks-mother-sexualised-him-when-he-was-four.html

The reports also show that when Breivik was just four-years-old, his mother
became preoccupied with fears that her son would violently assault someone.

"She saw him as an adult violent person, even though he was only a small boy,"
said Aage Borchgrevink, author of A Norwegian tragedy. "She was afraid that he
    would assault people."

The psychologist reports show that Wenche Behring already felt her son was
"aggressive, hyperactive and clingy," when she was breastfeeding him.

By the time he was four years old, she "sexualised" the young Breivik, hit him,
and frequently told him that she wished that he were dead.

"The mother and Anders sleep in the same bed at night with very close bodily
contact," psychologists from Norway's centre for child and youth psychiatry
(SSBU), reported after Breivik and his mother spent several weeks there in 1983.
