White House names dates for Mideast leader visits

The White House on Tuesday named the dates for a trio of summits that will pitch President Barack Obama deep into Middle East peacemaking with the leaders of Israel, Egypt and the Palestinians on May, 18, 26 and 28.

The talks with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak and Palestinian leader Mahmud Abbas will set the stage for Obama's crucial address to the Islamic world in Egypt on June 4.

OIC HEAD SENDS LETTER TO US SECRETARY OF STATE

The head of the Organization of the Islamic Conference (OIC) sent a letter to the U.S. Secretary of State asking for the prevention of Israel's illegal acts and plans in Jerusalem.

OIC's Secretary General Ekmeleddin Ihsanoglu sent a letter to U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton last week, a statement from the organization said on Monday.

Ihsanoglu said in his letter that Israel's forcing Palestinians to leave their houses in Jerusalem, demolishing the evacuated buildings and locating Jewish families to the vacant lands was an unacceptable development.

Ihsanoglu said that such acts of Israel were against international rules and regulations, moreover, the country's stance hindered the peace process in the region.

Speaking to reporters on Monday, Ihsanoglu reiterated his concerns regarding Israel's plans to permanently change Jerusalem's demographic structure.

Ihsanoglu called on the U.S. administration to exert more efforts to achieve a comprehensive, lasting and fair peace in the Middle East.

The meeting decided to sign extradition agreements with Afghanistan and Argentina and authorized Second Deputy Premier and Minister of Interior Prince Naif to hold talks with officials of the two countries.

Former Canadian Premier and Council Associate President Jean Cretin expressed hope that the meeting would yield substantive results that contribute to peace and stability in the world.

For his part, Saudi Arabian General Investment Authority (SAGIA) Governor Amr Al-Dabbagh stressed that the Kingdom has always promoted peace, security and stability in the world, noting that long-term Saudi oil policies have ensured the growth the of the global economy.
