King Belshazzar gave a great banquet for a thousand of his nobles and drank wine with them. While Belshazzar was drinking his wine, he gave orders to bring in the gold and silver goblets that Nebuchadnezzar his father had taken from the temple in Jerusalem, so that the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines might drink from them.
So they brought in the gold goblets that had been taken from the temple of God in Jerusalem, and the king and his nobles, his wives and his concubines drank from them. As they drank the wine, they praised the gods of gold and silver, of bronze, iron, wood and stone.
Suddenly the fingers of a human hand appeared and wrote on the plaster of the wall, near the lamp stand in the royal palace. The king watched the hand as it wrote.
His face turned pale and he was so frightened that his knees knocked together and his legs gave way.

MONDAY: The Islamic Republic of Iran and Iraq have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) on defense cooperation
The MoU was signed by visiting Iraqi Defense Minister Lieutenant General Abdul Qadir Mohammed Jassim Obeidi and his Iranian counterpart Brigadier General Mostafa Mohammad-Najjar on Monday.
Iran's First Vice President Parviz Davoudi and Iraqi Premier Nouri al-Maliki were also present in the signing ceremony which was held at the pavilion of Mehrabad International Air Port.
The MoU has called for expansion of defense cooperation between the two countries in line with harmonizing all-out ties between Tehran and Baghdad to help further bolster peace and stability in the region.
The MoU also called for sweeping the landmine-infested war fronts remained from 1980-1988 war and continued search operations for those missing in action
Tehran: Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei
said Monday that the "dreams" of the United States in Iraq would not be realized.
"The enemies of the Iraqi government and nation, especially the US military, are one of the main hurdles for unity in Iraq, but their (US) dreams in Iraq will not be realized," IRIB quoted the Ayatollah as telling visiting Iraqi Prime Minister Nuri al-Maliki in Tehran.
Baghdad's Mayor has announced a decision to remove a Saddam-era monument which once symbolized the animosity between Iran and Iraq Mayor Saber al-Essawi said the city hall is to replace the 'monument of hatred' with a sign that would reflect 'coexistence'. The statue in Baghdad's Bab al-Moazzam district depicts a group of Iraqi fighters standing on a tank and aiming their guns towards Iraq's eastern neighbor, Iran. Interpreted by many as a symbol of Saddam Hussein's hostility against the Iranians, the monument will be replaced by a new structure which will portray peaceful coexistence between the two countries.
Again we see the error of making assumptions about the long-term loyalty and friendliness of Muslim countries. We assume the "new" Iraq is our ally, since we liberated it from dictatorship and brought democracy. Iran assumes (and Maliki does not contradict Ahmadinejad) that Iraq and America are enemies since Americans are Infidels, the eternal enemy of all Muslims. We also assume Iraq will be our ally against Iran and will allow us to launch strikes against Iran from Iraqi soil if necessary. Iran assumes Iraq is now her natural ally, not only against America but also against the Sunni Arab states, after having come under Shi'a control. Who is right?

United States Vice President Dick Cheney's plan in August 2007 to launch airstrikes against the Iranian Revolutionary Guards Corps was blocked by the Pentagon over concerns about Iran's retaliation capabilities. But Cheney's close alliance with Centcom chief General David Petraeus gives him the option of ignoring his opponents in Washington during the final months of the George W Bush administration
