Kringle Fights The Power

 With flattery
he will corrupt those
who have violated the covenant,
but the people who know their God
will firmly resist him.

It was a touching farewell to one of Hollywood’s greatest hell-raisers.

During Friday night’s wake – where Peter O’Toole’s body was laid out in an open coffin – the legendary actor’s cat Sydney climbed on to his chest and stayed there for the evening.

And at his funeral yesterday there was waltzing in the aisle.

Author Virginia Wade's fiction debut follows a group of women who embark on a week-long camping trip to Mt. Hood National Forest. There, in the shadow of Oregon’s highest mountain, they are kidnapped and sexually assaulted by a mysterious woodland creature. "What the hell is that thing?" asks one protagonist.

“‘It's f---ing Bigfoot,’ hissed Shelly. ‘He's real, for f---'s sake.’ Horror filled her eyes. ‘With a huge c---.’”

The book, with the decidedly un-PG title "Cum For Bigfoot," is just the first of 16 fiction ebooks that Wade (a pen name) has written about the legendary beast sometimes known as Sasquatch, each detailing a series of graphic and often violent sexual encounters between the apelike creature and his female human lovers. Wade has made an exceptional living writing these stories.

Europe is shifting away from a market-based economic model and is heading for Soviet-style totalitarianism, says Steen Jakobsen, chief economist of Denmark's Saxo Bank.

In a report obtained by CNBC, Jakobsen provides a series of extreme forecasts, including zero economic growth for the United States and a plunge in oil prices next year.

While Jakobsen acknowledges that the "probability of any one of the predictions coming true is low," he notes they are "based on a feasible — if unlikely — series of market and political events."

Dozens of members of Muslim Brotherhood Movement from Zamfara, Kebbi, Sokoto and parts of Katsina State on Saturday began a 90-kilometre trek to Zaria, Kaduna State.

Malam Qassim Sanda, the leader of the group, told newsmen at take-off point in Funtua, Katsina State that the exercise was to commemorate the martyrdom of the grand child of Prophet Muhammad.

The grandchild, Imam Hussaini ibn Asayyid-Ali, was killed in Karbala in the present day Iraq.

Sanda explained that the exercise was a symbolic representation of unity of Muslim faithful to further draw the attention to Islamic history.

According to him, no fewer than 15,000 people are participating in the exercise.

    Mike Tyson Explores Kierkegaard
The former heavyweight champ considers philosophy and love.
    By Mike Tyson
    Dec. 13, 2013 6:15 p.m. ET

I'm currently reading "The Quotable Kierkegaard," edited by Gordon Marino, a collection of awesome quotes from that great Danish philosopher. (He wanted his epitaph to read: "In yet a little while / I shall have won; / Then the whole fight / Will all at once be done.") I love reading philosophy. Most philosophers are so politically incorrect—challenging the status quo, even challenging God. Nietzsche's my favorite. He's just insane. You have to have an IQ of at least 300 to truly understand him. Apart from philosophy, I'm always reading about history. Someone very wise once said the past is just the present in funny clothes. I read everything about Alexander, so I downloaded "Alexander the Great: The Macedonian Who Conquered the World" by Sean Patrick. Everyone thinks Alexander was this giant, but he was really a runt. "I would rather live a short life of glory than a long one of obscurity," he said. I so related to that, coming from Brownsville, Brooklyn.
    12 Months of Reading

Contributors from Sen. Marco Rubio to 'Orange is the New Black' author Piper Kerman select the best books of 2013.

What did I have to look forward to—going in and out of prison, maybe getting shot and killed, or just a life of scuffling around like a common thief? Alexander, Napoleon, Genghis Khan, even a cold pimp like Iceberg Slim—they were all mama's boys. That's why Alexander kept pushing forward. He didn't want to have to go home and be dominated by his mother. In general, I'm a sucker for collections of letters. You think you've got deep feelings? Read Napoleon's love letters to Josephine. It'll make you think that love is a form of insanity. Or read Virginia Woolf's last letter to her husband before she loaded her coat up with stones and drowned herself in a river. I don't really do any light reading, just deep, deep stuff. I'm not a light kind of guy.

    — Mr. Tyson is the author of "The Undisputed Truth."

  82. Atlantic City Cop Ordered to Pay $250,000 From Own Pocket to Citizen He Abused

    http://photographyisnotacrime.com/2013/12/22/atlantic-city-cop-ordered-pay-250000-pocket-suspect-abused/

The cop is none other than Sterling Wheaton of the Atlantic City Police Department, whom we became familiar with back in September when he drove up to a group of five fellow officers beating on a suspect and sicced his dog on him in an incident caught on surveillance video.

Then we later learned that Wheaton was already named a defendant in three unrelated lawsuits alleging abuse over the five previous years, including one where he is accused of ripping the phone out of the hands of woman recording him, only for her never to see the phone again.

Now we are learning that another of those three lawsuits involved him beating up a prosecutor from the state attorney’s office nonetheless, which is probably the last person you want to beat up if you’re one of these asshole cops like Wheaton who think they can do whatever they want.

A jury awarded Michael Troso $500,000, half which the city must pay, the other half which Wheaton must pay, who incredulously, is still employed by the Atlantic City Police Department, despite the liability he has proven to be.

The trade organization representing the nation’s largest food and beverage companies wants permission to label as “natural” products that contain genetically engineered ingredients like corn, soy, canola and sugar, according to a letter sent to the Food and Drug Administration.

In the letter dated Dec. 5, the Grocery Manufacturers Association said it planned to petition the agency to issue a regulation that would allow foods containing genetically modified ingredients to be labeled “natural.”

Use of the term “natural” is now generating battles similar to previous fights over terms like organic, amid initiatives in several states that seek to label foods in a more transparent way. Last summer, Connecticut passed legislation on labeling that would make it illegal to use the word “natural” on the packaging of any food product containing biotech ingredients, and the governor signed it on Dec. 11.

The inventor of the AK-47 has died, age 94

Mikhail Kalashnikov, who is credited with inventing the AK-47 rifle — or Automatic Kalashnikov Model 1947 — died Monday in the capital of Udmurtia, Russia after a lengthy battle with illness. He was 94 years old.

His rifle is one of the most copied in the world with an estimated 100 million having been produced. The success of the rifle was based on its ease of production and legendary reliability.

In 1987, Kalashnikov said, ”Blame the Nazi Germans for making me become a gun designer. I always wanted to construct agriculture machinery.”

A terrorist known in his hometown as “Hitler” – both for his physical resemblance to the German dictator and for his policies – has swept local primaries and will represent his district for the ruling Fatah party in upcoming Palestinian legislative elections, according to Palestinian sources.

Jamal Abu Al-Rub, a leader of the Al Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, won the Fatah primaries in the northern Samarian village of Qabatya, just outside Jenin, election officials say. He was one of dozens of terrorists and militant leaders to dominate the local elections http://www.frontpagemag.com/2013/dgreenfield/palestinian-muslims-we-are-all-hitler-hitler-you-have-brought-pride-to-the-homeland-and-allah/

    tp://www.news-herald.com/lifestyle/20131223/computerizing-people-may-be-next-step-in-tech

It’s likely the world in the not-so-distant future will be increasingly populated by computerized people like Amal Graafstra.

    The
37-year-old doesn’t need a key or password to get into his car, home or
computer. He’s programmed them to unlock at the mere wave of his hands,
which are implanted with radio frequency identification tags. The
rice-size gadgets work so well, the Seattle resident says, he’s sold
similar ones to more than 500 customers through his company Dangerous
    Things.

The move to outfit people with electronic devices that
can be swallowed, implanted in their bodies or attached to their skin
via “smart tattoos” could revolutionize health care and change the way
people interact with devices and one another. Critics call the trend
intrusive, even sacrilegious. But others say it ultimately will make
life better for everybody. Some researchers and executives envision a
day when devices placed in people will enable them to control computers,
prosthetic devices and many other things solely with their thoughts.

    “In
the next 10 to 20 years we will see rapid development in bioengineered
and man-machine interfaces,” predicted Graafstra, who wrote a book about
the technology, adding that the trend is going to “push the boundaries
of what it means to be human.”

Many large technology companies and researchers are keenly interested in the topic.

Hildebrand Gurlitt, the man who assembled the astounding art collection recently discovered in a Munich apartment, was more deeply involved in the trade of looted artworks than had been previously assumed. He also profited from Nazi injustices after the war.

While the president frequently declaims on the dangers of privately-owned guns, his administration is scorning a mandate to track how many Americans are shot and killed each year by government agents. The same 1994 law that temporarily banned the sale of assault weapons also required the federal government to compile data on police shootings nationwide. However, neither the Justice Department nor most local police departments have bothered to tally such occurrences.

Not only do government agencies fail to track official violence against Americans; they also sometimes preemptively exonerate all such attacks. A 2001 Justice Department report, “Policing and Homicide, 1976–1998,” labeled everyone in the nation who perished as a result of a police shooting as “felons justifiably killed by police.” There were hundreds, if not thousands, of people shot unjustifiably by the police in those decades, but their innocence vanished in the flicker of a federal label. The Justice Department was so embarrassed by the report’s “lack of distinction between justifiable police shootings and murders, that it did not send out its usual promotional material announcing the report,” according to the New York Times.

The commission faces a March deadline to come up with recommendations in response to the massacre at the Newtown elementary school over a year ago. To do that, the commission needs to know more about the killer. The state police should stop stalling and immediately release its full report on the crime — a report said to amount to thousands of pages.

Why it has taken so long to release the report is beyond rational explanation.
