ReplyDeleteLaunchers turned in to LAPD were from military
The Associated Press
Posted : Sunday Dec 30, 2012 9:49:33 EST
LOS ANGELES — Experts say two rocket launchers turned in during a one-day gun buyback program in Los Angeles appear to be antitank weapons from the military.
The LA Times reports one of the rocket launchers is likely a version of the AT4, a single-shot, disposable antitank weapon manufactured in Sweden.
Police said the people who turned them in claimed they had family members who were once in the military. Just the barrels of the weapons were turned in, without the projectiles.
Det. Gus Villanueva tells the Times police would check the origins of the weapons with the U.S. military to see if they were ever stolen. He says officers could not provide details on the models.
Wednesday’s buyback program brought in 2,037 firearms, including 901 handguns, 698 rifles, 363 shotguns and 75 assault weapons.
Obama has sold more guns to the drug cartels than all of the other Nobel Peace Prize winners put together!!!
ReplyDeleteTom Brokaw is advocating that only "gun clubs" can own guns and if you want to shoot, you go there and shoot and turn back in.

ReplyDeleteLatin America, the Mideast, and the Pope
ReplyDeleteBy Mike Konrad
I have taken on the dubious effort of translating some news reports from South American TV into English. Though my Spanish is fractured and weak, I can still glean one trend that is ominous. South American media has taken a viciously anti-Israel turn. There are many reasons for this. Certainly, the enormous amount of Arab immigration to Latin America has had an influence. There is also a growing Latin-Arab alliance when it comes to OPEC. However, the undeclared bull in the china shop is Roman Catholicism's refusal to take a clear stand on the Mideast issue.
Would it be too much for Rome to issue a papal bull declaring that Jesus was Jewish?
John 4: 22 (ESV) You worship what you do not know; we worship what we know, for salvation is from the Jews.
Rome could simply declare that Jesus was not a Muslim, in defiance of what the Koran proclaims.
If the Pope wants to avoid religion, couldn't he point out that the Crusades were a reaction to Islamic imperialism, and was not European aggression?
http://www.americanthinker.com/printpage/?url=http://www.americanthinker.com/articles/../2012/12/latin_america_the_mideast_and_the_pope.html
fat chance
ReplyDeletethat is so fuckin right
ReplyDeletebut they will never do that
If the supposed "Vicar of Christ," the Jewish Moshiach, cannot make some declarations against Islamic lies; and give some support to Israel, then Roman Catholicism deserves to lose Latin America to the Evangelicals.
ReplyDeleteAt one time, Rome was the front-line defender of European civilization against Jihad. In South America, for all its faults, Catholicism managed to convert those Muslims who came in during the period of Arab immigration.
That day seems to have passed.
As promised, this will not be a politically correct site.
ReplyDeleteAs you see by now, most Arabs have assimilated in South American very well, and are almost seemlessly mainstream today. To what can we attribute this?!
What did South America do right that Europe is failing to do?
In a word: Christianity!
When the Arabs came to South America, most were Christian.
But not all. Anywhere from 10% to 25% were Muslim. We should expect therefore to find from 10% to 25% of the Arabs in South America to be Muslim. But we do not. So what happened?!
One thing is clear: Unlike Europe, the South Americans, until recently, insisted on Christianity among the Arabs, or if the Muslim would not convert, at least insisted on total cultural and social assimilation.
The South Americans were nowhere near as intolerant as Inquisitionary Spain; but the laissez-faire individualism of the United States was not acceptable, either. Social conformity was expected. Deviation from the norm was limited.
This may have dampened South America’s economic performance; but it insulated the Latins from the influence of Muslim immigrants among them, and all but coerced a social and religious conversion from those very same Muslims. It was quite effective.
In practical terms: The Muslims were expected to convert, intermarry, or, at least, to starting drinking wine.
This social practice of demanding assimilation has changed recently under the influence of Iranian and Saudi Money; and a growing trend to imitate American multiculturalism.

ReplyDeleteBoy, Not Making Bombs, Arrested for Having Things Cops Think Could Blow Up (And For Drawings That Spooked a Teacher)
ReplyDeletehttp://reason.com/blog/2012/12/28/boy-not-making-bombs-arrested-for-having
When a 16-year-old New Jersey boy doodled in his notebook on Tuesday, December 18, he probably didn’t expect to be arrested by the end of the day. However, when school officials saw the sketches, which they state appeared to be of weapons, and the boy “demonstrated behavior that caused them to be concerned,” the police were called.
ReplyDeleteA subsequent search of the boy’s home led to his arrest because they found several electronic parts and chemicals. He was charged with the possession of an explosive device and put in juvenile detention.
The details on what was precisely in the drawings are sketchy, as are the details on the behavior that caused concern. The school claims the drawings were of weapons, but the boy’s mother told various press outlets that, “He drew a glove with flames coming out of it.” If true, then the drawing wouldn’t be out of place in the notebook of any teenager who loves comic books.
At no point in time did the boy threaten the school, school officials, or his classmates. He cooperated fully with authorities, and a search of the school itself found nothing dangerous....

ReplyDeletePosted by Judy K. Warner on December 30, 2012
I’m watching C-SPAN’s Book TV this Sunday morning. An author, Lela Gilbert, is discussing her book, Saturday People, Sunday People: Israel Through the Eyes of a Christian Sojourner. She was talking about the hundreds of thousands of Jews in Arab lands who had to flee after the founding of Israel. That went on from 1948 until the 1970s, but it’s only now being taken note of. Then she talked about what is going on with Christians in the Middle East. The Iraqi Christians didn’t see it coming, she said. They are still being attacked, and their numbers are a fraction of what they were. (We’ve written about this.) But Iraqi Christians have fled to Syria, and now they are in danger there. Egypt has millions of Christians, and the ones who have enough money to get out are getting out. The others will leave any way they can, lots of them.
There will be no Christians in the Middle East in a few years, except, ironically, in Israel. Lela Gilbert said the Christians’ plight is desperate. “Christians have no Israel,” nowhere to go where they will be automatically accepted. And Christians in the west do not take much interest in these beleaguered people. Their ancient liturgies and ways of worship are strange to most American Christians. Evangelicals consider them Catholic (which they are) and want to “convert” them. Christians usually don’t think of themselves as one people, the way Jews do, and that’s a sad thing. It wasn’t always that way.
I don’t see any solution. We unleashed “change” in the Middle East, and the change turned out to be all in the direction of Islamists taking power. The Jews found there was no room for them decades ago, and now the Christians are finding the same thing.

ReplyDeleteFor the first time since 1746, a herd of wild European bison, close cousins of the American variety, will be roaming free in a German forest owned by Prince Richard of Sayn-Wittgenstein-Berleburg:
Since he hit upon the idea almost a decade ago, Prince Richard has been at the center of Germany’s most interesting experiment in species conservation. Now the project, which receives about €1.5 million ($2 million) in government subsidies, is about to enter its critical phase.
The state Environment Ministry in Düsseldorf issued its approval shortly before Christmas, and over the next few days several men will drive into the forest and remove the fence around an acclimation enclosure in place since 2010. When that happens, a herd of eight European bison, or wisent, will be free to roam in the woods. It consists of an enormous bull, five cows and two calves.

A few years ago, Daniel Brown was detained at LAX while connecting to a Minneapolis flight because traces of gunpowder were found on his footwear. His footwear was combat boots. As the name suggests, the combat boots were returning from combat — eight months of it, in Iraq’s bloody and violent al-Anbar province. Above the boots he was wearing the uniform of a staff sergeant in the USMC Reserve Military Police and was accompanied by all 26 members of his unit, also in uniform. Staff Sergeant Brown doesn’t sound like an “obvious” terrorist. But the TSA put him on the no-fly list anyway. If it’s not “obvious” to the government that a serving member of the military has any legitimate reason for being around ammunition,

Arab Money and the Purchase of a President
ReplyDeleteGuest post by John A. Shaw
In the run-up to the 2012 election, a story surfaced about an Iraqi billionaire who managed to buy access to Washington policy makers while funding a Chicago Pay-to-Play scheme that helped produce a Governor, a U.S. Senator, and, ultimately, a President of the United States.
The story was eight years in the making, yet despite the extent of his political influence, this Iraqi’s name remains largely unknown. He wants it that way. In fact, he has spent a significant sum attempting to hinder the reporting of his activities by the news media. The lack of attention paid to him, however, is inversely proportional to his level of importance.
His name is Nadhmi Auchi.

ReplyDelete2012: More Soldier Suicides Than Combat Deaths?
ReplyDeleteOne heart-wrenching statistic that few like to talk about is the toll that combat takes on a soldier’s psyche. Four days ago, the Washington Post announced the apparent suicide of a Navy SEAL Commander in Afghanistan. Today, Stars and Stripes ran an article proclaiming “More Soldier Suicides Than Combat Deaths in 2012.” Here are the statistics from that article:
hrough November this year, potentially 303 active-duty, Reserve and National Guard soldiers took their own lives. In Afghanistan 212 soldiers were killed as of Dec. 7.
The trajectory for soldier suicides keeps getting worse.
With a month left in the year, the Army set a grim new record with 177 potential active-duty cases.
Last year, there were 165 confirmed suicides, which was also a record. Among Army Reserve and Guard soldiers potentially 126 took their own lives, up from 118 in all of 2011.
The numbers have increased despite a range of training and awareness programs instituted by the service in the last few years.
The article mentions new measures being discussed in Congress that have to do with removing personal firearms from the homes of “unstable soldiers.” That type of thinking scares me almost as much as the increasing suicide rate because it demonstrates how many of our elected leaders haven’t a clue as to how to address this problem. Removing one tool that could be used to kill oneself isn’t a solution. It’s a precaution, and an incomplete one at that.
There’s an obvious leadership problem in the U.S. Armed Forces when it comes to a) providing mental health training versus physical training, and b) recognizing and treating the early onset of mental health issues. This has to become a priority for whomever the new SECDEF is or I fear that we’ll see these numbers continue to rise.

In an article about France urging Syrian rebels to form a provisional government, the New York Times scrubbed a passage which revealed that the CIA was helping funnel arms to rebel groups that have aligned themselves with Al-Qaeda terrorists.
ReplyDeleteVersion three of the story, posted at 19:45:05 UTC yesterday and entitled France Says It Would Recognize Provisional Syrian Government, included the line, ” American intelligence agents have helped funnel arms to rebel groups.”
However, fifteen minutes later the revelation that the CIA was arming the rebels was removed and replaced with the words, “American intelligence agents have helped to identify the rebel groups that receive arms.”

ReplyDeleteA special report from North Carolina
According to a Lieutenant in a North Carolina police department with 31 years experience, law enforcement is preparing to take away our 2nd Amendment. The training has already begun as law enforcement in North Carolina have already begun training with military drones. We learn that the governor of North Carolina has been selected by President Barack Obama to help enforce the martial law scenario. This Lieutenant also states that he expects gun confiscation to begin within the next 2 to 3 months. He also confirms information that we have heard before, that a contrived economic collapse is about to occur leading to martial law in America, as early as the beginning of 2013. What will he be doing at that time? Going home to protect his family, the same we all should be doing

ReplyDeleteU.S.: Iranian Muslim “accidentally” shoots his brother in North Carolina “mistaking” him for intruder
ReplyDeleteNorth Carolina resident Ali (Al) Dastmalchi, 65, shot an intruder who turned out to be his younger brother, Vahid (George) Dastmalchi, 63, according to reports.
A North Carolina man fatally shot his brother after authorities say he mistook him for an intruder — just hours after cops responded to the home for a domestic disturbance, according to reports.

ReplyDeletethis one in my head all night, my nights are crazy
FEMA “really hasn’t done much, if anything, and they’re making people go through a whole bunch of bureaucratic tape,” one resident told MRCTV.
ReplyDelete‘They need all the help they can get, and the red tape doesn’t help anyone. It only hurts and hinders and grows the problem,” another said.
Victims are shuffled from one desk to another for registration, an identification check, and one-on-one interviews – then referred to something called a “Mitigation Desk,” a FEMA official at a local Disaster Recovery Center explained to MRCTV.
“They have to go through SBA and see if they’re eligible or not. And, then, they come back to the grant program if they’re not eligible. So, one way or another, they’re going to be given the help for repair, replacement,” the FEMA official assured MRCTV.
The Disaster Recovery Center has since been relocated “before the bad weather hits.”
But, the Sandy-ravaged residents still remain. And wait.

ReplyDelete“As the nation teeters at the edge of fiscal chaos, observers are reaching the conclusion that the American system of government is broken. But almost no one blames the culprit: our insistence on obedience to the Constitution, with all its archaic, idiosyncratic and downright evil provisions,” Seidman writes.

How the welfare state became a profit center.
(Double dipping?)
“This business is a very important business to JP Morgan,” Christopher Paton, the company’s managing director of treasury services, told Bloomberg News in 2011. “It’s an important business in terms of its size and scale."
Just how lucrative JP Morgan’s EBT state contracts are is hard to say, because total national data on EBT contracts are not reported. But thanks to a combination of public-records requests and contracts that are available online, here’s what we do know: 18 of the 24 states JP Morgan handles have been contracted to pay the bank up to $560,492,596.02 since 2004. Since 2007, Florida has been contracted to pay JP Morgan $90,351,202.22. Pennsylvania’s seven-year contract totaled $112,541,823.27. New York’s seven-year contract totaled $126,394,917.

ReplyDeleteThe request for permission to sue Connecticut, filed on behalf of one of the children who survived the massacre at Newtown, could open up quite a quiver of questions. The filing was first reported in the Courant newspaper, which is issued at Hartford. The Courant reports that an attorney at New Haven, Irving Pinsky, has filed a notice with the state’s claims commissioner, J. Paul Vance Jr., who, the paper reports, must decide on whether to lift the state’s sovereign immunity from most lawsuits. Mr. Pinsky, the Courant reports, is asking for $100 million on behalf of a six-year-old girl who, he suggests, was traumatized by the horror in which 20 pupils and six women were slain at the Sandy Hook Elementary School.

ReplyDelete"Shall not be infringed.!"
ReplyDeletePrior to the Supreme Court's 2008 decision in District of Columbia v. Heller,1 the courts had yet to definitively state what right the Second Amendment protected. The opposing theories, perhaps oversimplified, were (1) an "individual rights" approach, whereby the Amendment protected individuals' rights to firearm ownership, possession, and transportation; and (2) a "states' rights" approach, under which the Amendment only protected the right to keep and bear arms in connection with organized state militia units.2 Moreover, it was generally believed that the Amendment was only a bar to federal action, not to state or municipal restraints.3
ReplyDeleteHowever, the Supreme Court has now definitively held that the Second Amendment protects an individual's right to possess a firearm unconnected with service in a militia, and to use that weapon for traditionally lawful purposes, such as self-defense within the home. Moreover, this right applies not just to the federal government, but to states and municipalities as well.
In Heller, the Court held that (1) the District of Columbia's total ban on handgun possession in the home amounted to a prohibition on an entire class of "arms" that Americans overwhelmingly chose for the lawful purpose of self-defense, and thus violated the Second Amendment; and (2) the District's requirement that any lawful firearm in the home be disassembled or bound by a trigger lock also violated the Second Amendment, because the law made it impossible for citizens to use arms for the core lawful purpose of self-defense.

ReplyDeleteBack in the bad old Bush days, Iraq became a focal point of activity for terrorist groups and terrorist militias, but that was bush league stuff. With Obama, there is no longer a focal point because the entire Middle East is crawling with terrorist groups and terrorist militias running from one war to another in the endlessly exciting adventure of democracy that is the Arab Spring.
