Lover's Cross

Then God said,
“Take your son, your only son,
whom you love~
Isaac~
and go to the region of Moriah.
Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering
on a mountain I will show you.”

Mitt Romney: arm the Syrian rebels

Republican presidential candidate is to call for an escalation of the conflict in Syria in a major foreign policy address

Interfaith allies of the Muslim Brotherhood legacy groups in the U.S. are now jumping into the controversy over Pamela Geller's pro-Israel, anti-jihad advertisements in New York City subways. Their outcry is not a spontaneous reaction to "hate speech." It is part of an organized pushback against critics of the Muslim Brotherhood affiliates, adopting "Islamophobia" as their line of attack.
Geller's 10 ads state, "In any war between the civilized man and the savage, support the civilized man. Support Israel. Defeat Jihad." The premise is simple and true: Israel is civilized and is targeted by jihadist savages. All it did was acknowledge that there is a jihad. It did not assert or imply that all or most Muslims are part of the jihad or that the jihad is legitimate according to Islam.
Nonetheless, the ads were accused of branding all Muslims as terrorists. Linda Sarsour, the executive director of the Arab American Association of New York, said, "You are talking about people like me being called a ‘savage.'" Interfaith groups eager to show off their bona fides sprung into action, nonetheless.

    At Harvard Obama Approved of
Restricting Speech to Protect Minorities..The 1991 Harvard Law School yearbook quoted the future President of the United States virtually shrugging his shoulders at the thought that non-liberal white students might take offense at restrictions on speech that minority students found objectionable. “I don’t see a lot of conservatives getting upset if minorities feel silenced,” Obama said, flipping the argument around.

In addition to Obama, who was by then the former Harvard Law Review editor, the panel included several prominent Harvard law professors; the American Civil Liberties Union’s legal director; Justice Stephen Breyer, who then presided over the U.S. Court of Appeals for the First Circuit; and Brian Timmons, an Obama classmate who had been the managing editor of the Harvard Journal on Law and Public Policy, which describes itself as “the nation’s leading forum for conservative and libertarian legal scholarship.” http://newmediajournal.us/indx.php/item/7073

Although the same deterrence is now in effect against terror
organizations which have seized territory and power – Hamas and
Hezbollah – the al-Qaeda-inspired terror organizations cannot be
deterred. Once Assad falls, the radical elements can raid Syrian
military bases, arm themselves with a range of devastating weapons, and
turn their sights to the Israeli border.

So the Arab winter continues to take shape.

and the USA will provide these weapons

If a Nazi had just died and the main newspapers, the national
broadcaster, leading right-wing politicians and others broke out into a
wave of mourning, regret and "we shall not see his like" routines, you
would worry that this could come back, wouldn't you? Most of all you
would worry that no lessons at all appeared to have been learned. We do
not have to imagine the dread of such a scenario, for we have just seen
it. And the sight of it should freeze our blood, whether we believe
ourselves on the "right" or on the "left."

  28. TANK, Pakistan (AP) -- Pakistan's military has blocked a convoy of thousands of people from entering a lawless tribal region along the border with Afghanistan to protest American drone strikes.

The group was turned back just miles from the border of South Waziristan. Most of the demonstrators are Pakistanis, but there was also a small contingent of U.S. anti-war activists.

The protesters were led by Imran Khan, a former Pakistani cricket star who is now a politician. After an hour of negotiations with the military, he announced that the caravan would backtrack to a city about nine miles away.

In a speech there, he said the message to the United States is, "The more you carry out drone attacks, the more people will hate you."

About three dozen Americans from the anti-war group CODEPINK were part of the march. They say the drone strikes have terrorized peaceful tribes living along the border and have killed many innocent civilians.

  30. Between 1933 and 1945, the Nazis seized an estimated 650,000 works of art, taking them from Jewish families and grabbing so-called “degenerate” art — including works by Picasso, Matisse, Chagall and van Gogh — off the walls of German museums. Many of the plundered paintings and other works were destroyed, but others were sold abroad with the cash going back to the Nazi war machine.

It took 50 years, but Jewish families thought they might finally receive some justice for this massive theft.

More than 40 countries gathered in Washington, DC, in 1998 to discuss looted art and sign a set of principles about identifying such work and settling claims.

The United States endorsed a declaration to investigate ownership of work that may have been in Europe during the Nazi era. The principles called for a “just and fair solution” to be reached if pre-war owners came forward to reclaim their art.

Glenn Lowry, director of the Museum of Modern Art, pledged that MoMA “does not and will not knowingly exhibit stolen works of art.” MoMA and other New York museums promised to investigate their collections.

The Grosz family came forward in 2003 asking for the return of the three paintings in MoMA’s collection.
    Grosz,
an Expressionist painter and Hitler critic known for his caricatures of
German life, fled Nazi Germany in 1933, leaving many of his works in
the hands of his Jewish art dealer, Alfred Flechtheim. The dealer left
Germany, taking with him several Grosz paintings, which the family
    maintains he did not own.
Flechtheim died of blood poisoning in
London after stepping on a rusty nail. Art dealer Charlotte Weidler
claims she inherited the portrait of Max Herrmann-Neisse, which the
    Grosz family disputes.
It later ended up for sale at the New York
City gallery of Curt Valentin. Valentin was a Jew who had been
authorized by the Nazis to sell German art in foreign countries,
according to scholar Jonathan Petropoulos, an expert witness for the
    Grosz family.
Valentin sent the money back to Karl Buchholz, a
Nazi agent and German gallery owner who passed on the revenue — minus
his 25 percent commission — to the Nazi government, Petropoulos said.
    “Valentin
proceeded to sell hundreds of works purged from German state museums in
America,” said Petropoulos, a professor at Claremont McKenna College in
    California.

ended in August a month before the deadly Al-Qaeda attack on 9-11. A six
member mobile security team was also withdrawn around the same time.
This was despite the fact that there were over a dozen attacks in the
country this year. Lt. Col. Wood was subpoenaed to appear at a House
committee hearing this coming week. Wood told CBS News it was
unbelievable to him that the State Department withdrew security when
they did because of the 13 security incidents before 9-11.

The mother of six had her throat slashed by Peer Khairi, slit open to

The discovery therefore suggests a serious potential problem for xenotransplantation.

    The tragedy is

    The audience is getting bored

    And up on the cross

    Is Sacher-Masoch, not the Lord

    It's starting to rain

    This isn't very entertaining

    Mel please explain

    Your vision for the world

    You're trying to act hard

By showing us His dying moments

    Big tub of lard

In fact you're much more like the Romans

    Jesus in furs

    Mohammed was a businessman

    But you're just a perve

    We're getting bored again

    Come back as a girl

Or come back as a filthy letcher

    Please save the world

    Without too much tomato ketchup

    Jesus in furs

    Sacrifice as entertainment

    All these martyrs

    And all these matinees

    God is in pain

    This isn't very entertaining

    Mel please explain

    Your vision for the world

    So this is your plan

You're gland in glove with execution

    Waiting for the man

And murder is the big connection

    Jesus in furs

    Sacrifice as entertainment

    All these martyrs

    And all these matinees

    We're all in pain

    This isn't very entertaining

    God please explain

    Your vision for the world

Here we go, here we go

We all get low, we have no clothes

Don't touch my trim, I'll get some gash

My sack is heavy, my sack is grim

    Second record to go

    Remembered in a photograph

An X-ray of a hollow laugh

    That ruins everything

    That ruins everything

We all get low, we have no clo-

    We all get low

    Everybody howls in disbelief

To see their friends and relatives

    Approach with floral wreaths

And I'd like to say that day won't come for you my friend

My self, my world, my everlasting lover girl

Of course it will, of course it will

And when it does I hope that you have done the things you've come to do

All the things you'd meant to do before the bastard got to you

At the end of its run, Beatlemania fizzled out dramatically, almost
comically and by October of 1979 it shut its doors. Inspired by acts
like Elvis Costello, The Police and Joe Jackson, I quickly put
together a 'New Wave' band, really just a short haircut band, with
old pal from Chalice, Russ Velazquez, Spellman alumn Robert Miller
and brother Bill. The band The Metromen were a great power-pop
quartet (see YouTube videos in the ARCHIVES). We recorded an album for Genya Ravan's indie label, but it
never had a commercial release, and we managed to develop a strong
New York club following by the time we broke up in 1982. Too
bad … for I believe we would have broken through given another year
    together.

Residents of Sinai point to recent cases of violence as a sign of what
may come if a local security force is created. A respected tribesman,
Nayef Abu-Qabal, was shot dead while he was having his hair trimmed in a
barber shop in the northern Sinai city of el-Arish over the summer.
Sheik Khalaf Menaei was shot dead by militants last month while driving
in northern Sinai. The killings were apparently revenge because the two
    were government informants, locals say.

Lara Logan, a correspondent for CBS’ “60 Minutes,” delivered a provocative speech to about 1,100 influentials from government, politics, media, and the legal and corporate arenas. Such downtown gatherings are a regular on Chicago’s networking circuit. (I am a member of the BGA’s Civic Leadership Committee, and the Chicago Sun-Times was a sponsor).

Her ominous and frightening message was gleaned from years of covering our wars in the Middle East. She arrived in Chicago on the heels of her Sept. 30 report, “The Longest War.” It examined the Afghanistan conflict and exposed the perils that still confront America, 11 years after 9/11.

Eleven years later, “they” still hate us, now more than ever, Logan told the crowd. The Taliban and al-Qaida have not been vanquished, she added. They’re coming back.

“I chose this subject because, one, I can’t stand, that there is a major lie being propagated . . .” Logan declared in her native South African accent.

The lie is that America’s military might has tamed the Taliban.

“There is this narrative coming out of Washington for the last two years,” Logan said. It is driven in part by “Taliban apologists,” who claim “they are just the poor moderate, gentler, kinder Taliban,” she added sarcastically. “It’s such nonsense!”http://www.suntimes.com/news/washington/15581902-452/reporter-lara-logan-brings-ominous-news-from-middle-east.html

Gulf Arab countries should work together to stop Islamist group the Muslim Brotherhood plotting to undermine governments in the region, the United Arab Emirates' foreign minister said on Monday.

    The UAE, a major
oil exporter and business hub, has arrested around 60 local Islamists
this year, accusing them of belonging to the Muslim Brotherhood - which
is banned in the country - and conspiring to overthrow the government.

Thanks to cradle-to-grave welfare systems, the UAE and other Gulf Arab monarchies have largely avoided Arab Spring unrest that has unseated rulers elsewhere.

Libya militias lay siege to pro-Gadhafi city in another sign of chaos

    http://www.kansascity.com/2012/10/08/3858129/libya-militias-lay-siege-to-pro.html

Thousands of Libyan security force members
and hundreds of militiamen have massed around the Libyan town of Bani
Walid in a show of force that underscores how tense and fragile the
country’s security situation remains, nearly one month after an attack
by Islamist militants on the U.S. consulate in Benghazi killed the U.S.
    ambassador and three other Americans.
    The faceoff at Bani Walid
pits militia forces once loyal to deposed dictator Moammar Gadhafi
against Libyan security forces and militiamen from Misrata who were
critical to the anti-Gadhafi uprising last year. The immediate cause is
the death Sept. 25 of a militiaman who helped capture Gadhafi.
    Security
forces began laying siege to Bani Walid a week ago, demanding that
Gadhafi loyalists implicated in the death of Omran Shaban be turned
over. The siege has cut off food, water and medical supplies, with local
doctors complaining that armed men set up a checkpoint on the main road
from Tripoli, the capital, and blocked three vehicles carrying medical
supplies, oxygen and medical personnel from reaching the town. Civilians
trying to flee the town were prevented from doing so.

Three crates from an arms manufacturer - addressed to Saudi

Crime Spate Rocks Georgia's Historic Political Transition
    http://www.rferl.org/content/crime-spate-rocks-georgias-historic-political-transition/24730503.html

A crime wave is sweeping Georgia -- at least that's what some
politicians from President Mikheil Saakashvili's United National
Movement (UNM) would have people think.

Even before the country's October 1 legislative elections UNM figures
were claiming the opposition Georgian Dream coalition -- which emerged
victorious at the polls -- was connected with organized crime and that
their victory would open the floodgates to lawlessness.

Just days before the vote, video and audio recordings were leaked,
purporting to document conversations between Georgian Dream leaders and
underworld figures. Georgian Dream says the recordings were crude
    falsifications designed to sow panic.

But in the days following the vote -- even as relations between the UNM
and Georgian Dream seemed to be unfolding in a fairly conciliatory
manner -- a handful of brazen crimes have some UNM figures saying "we
    told you so."

"As we know, the leaders of Georgian Dream were in contact with thieves
in law [mafia leaders] and were promising them that they would be
allowed to return to Georgia," says UNM parliamentary deputy Nugzar
Tsiklauri. "We heard a couple of those conversations in which criminal
bosses are saying they would return to Georgia after October 1. And, of
course, it is obvious that these conversations were noticed by people
who are interested in instability and for whom such transitions provide
    the best opportunity to act."

FRANCE HAS not fully taken stock of the threat it faces from radical
Islamism, a leading Jewish figure warned as police operations continued
against a gang suspected of anti-Semitic attacks.
    The arrest of a
man in Torcy, near Paris, brought to 12 the number of people detained by
police in raids against a network suspected of having thrown a grenade
at a kosher supermarket last month. A 33-year-old man was shot dead by
police during one of the raids, in Strasbourg on Saturday.
    Police
said they recovered lists of Jewish targets during the simultaneous
operations in Paris, Strasbourg, Nice and Cannes, adding to fears in
France’s Jewish community – the largest in Europe – after a series of
apparently anti-Semitic incidents in recent weeks.
    Death threats
were made against the chief rabbi of Lyon; three young Jewish men were
attacked with a hammer and iron bars; and, on Saturday night, blank
bullets were fired from a car at a synagogue in the Paris suburb of
    Argenteuil while worshippers were inside.
    The head of Jewish
umbrella group CRIF, Richard Prasquier, likened radical Islamism to
Nazism and said France had to take stock of the threat.
    “Radical
Islam compares its enemies to animals . . . In the same way, the Nazis
compared Jews to bacteria, to rats, to animals,” he said.
    The
apparent dismantling of an Islamist network which comprised a number of
young French converts with records of delinquency has prompted debate
over radicalisation in the country’s prisons.
    Some of the
individuals had a profile similar to that of Mohamed Merah, the
23-year-old petty criminal from Toulouse, who shot dead three Jewish
children, a rabbi and three soldiers before being shot dead by police in
    March.
“In the prisons, we need imams, French imams, trained
imams, so that there are not self-proclaimed imams passing on these
doctrines of hate,” said interior minister Manuel Valls.
    The
33-year-old man shot dead by police in Strasbourg is alleged by the
authorities to have been one of two men who threw a grenade into a
kosher supermarket in the Paris suburb of Sarcelles on September 19th.
One person was wounded in that attack.
Mr Valls said the arrested individuals belonged to “a dangerous network that had to be neutralised”.
He said the gang had identified additional targets and further arrests could follow.
    “We
know there are several dozen, indeed several hundred, individuals who
are capable of organising themselves like the group that has just been
    dismantled,” he added.
Searches carried out as part of the same
investigation yielded €27,000 in cash as well as weapons, Islamist
literature and a list of Jewish organisations in the Paris region,
    police said.
After meeting representatives of France’s Jewish and
Muslim communities at the weekend, President François Hollande pledged
to increase security at synagogues and enact tougher anti-terrorism
laws. He said a new Bill would allow police to arrest people suspected
of terrorism-related activities beyond France’s borders, and to access
the emails or internet communications of potential terrorists.

Congress’ median net worth increased 5 percent during the Great
Recession, even though the average American's net worth plunged 39
percent over the same period, according to The Washington Post.

The richest one-third of Congress increased their estimated net worth by 14 percent.

Seventy-two members of Congress doubled their wealth from 2004 to 2010.

"These are supposed to be our representatives," Aaron Task, from The Daily Ticker,
