Aye Co'lorado

Hear this, you kings!
Listen, you rulers!
I, even I,
will sing to the LORD;
 I will praise the LORD,

Copts in the North Sinai border town of Rafah have started leaving
their homes after receiving an ultimatum from Islamists to leave "within
48 hours" or be killed. According to confirmed reports 9 Coptic
families have left the town. The remaining 23 Coptic families are still
there, waiting to leave. "it is difficult for us to leave as most of us
are shop-owners and have property, so it is not easy just to leave
everything and go," said one Copt who is still with his family in Rafah.
The Copts are all confined to their homes, afraid to venture out.
However, two days ago. masked men on motorcycles sprayed Coptic stores with bullets, but no one was hurt.
    The
nine Coptic families who left Rafah were government employees and the
Governor of North Sinai offered to transfer them to neighboring Sinai
Province capital, Al-Arish, to take posts there instead.
    About
three weeks ago a Coptic shop owner received a hand-written threat that
"all Christians should leave Rafah within 48 hours, otherwise they will
be killed." Copts reported these threats to security but were told not
to take the threats "earnestly," because threats were during the time of
the YouTube clip mocking Mohammad. "We thought the writers of these
threats were just being vindictive against the Copts since it was
claimed that a US Copt is responsible for it [the film]," said a Copts
    resident of Rafah.
    Coptic families went with church
representatives and met with the Governor of North Sinai asking for
protection, he promised none, but just transferred nine government
    employees to work in Al-Arish.
    The Coptic Church issued a
statement this afternoon, after a meeting of the Holy Synod, signed by
acting Patriarch Anba Pachomios, condemning the forced displacement of
the Copts from Rafah, demanding that the "responsible state agencies
address those that are trying to undermine the state authority and show
it unable to protect its citizens."

He was team captain last night. They rotate of course, but still I was very proud of him. He also got a very tricky goal. Their team got so far ahead of the other team and his coach pulled him back on to defense, which I thought was a very classy thing to do. That's rare in this day and aged.

    Secretary of State Hillary Clinton
today removed the Iranian dissident group Mujahedin-e-Khalq,
known as the MEK, from the U.S. terrorist blacklist, ending a
years-long lobbying campaign by the group that paid former U.S.
    officials as advocates.

Effective today, the MEK is no longer designated a Foreign
Terrorist Organization. As a result, its property and financial
interests in the U.S. will no longer be blocked, and U.S.
citizens won’t be barred from supporting or engaging in
    transactions with the group.

I brought her coffee and breakfast in bed, put her folding chair in her car for her and made the landing as light as I could.

If you go out and bark with the big dogs at night, mornings can be a challenge. Especially when you have to sit in the rain for several hours. The boy is grumpus also this morning.

clear about what you are doing. You are, by playing your assigned role
as the Democratic or Republican voter in this political theater, giving
legitimacy to a corporate agenda that means your own impoverishment and
disempowerment. All the things that stand between us and utter
destitution — Medicaid, food stamps, Pell grants, Head Start, Social

and cities, the Women, Infants, and Children nutrition program (WIC),
Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and home-delivered meals for

The US Embassy in Cairo issued a terrorist threat warning on Friday for American citizens living in Egypt.
The diplomatic mission stated on its website that it has “credible information suggesting terrorist interest in targeting US female missionaries in Egypt.”
The embassy urged US citizens to “exercise vigilance, taking necessary precautions to maintain their personal security.” Americans in Egypt were also advised to maintain valid travel documents and to regularly monitor the US Department of State’s Bureau of Consular Affairs website, which lists updated travel warnings and alerts.
On August 4, the US issued a travel warning to Americans to “take precautions in travel to the Sinai.” It warned that “overland travel from Israel to the Sinai in particular is strongly discouraged.” That warning came soon after Israel urged its citizens to get out of the Sinai. The next day, Sinai terrorists killed 16 Egyptian border guards in an assault at the Egypt-Gaza-Israel border. http://www.timesofisrael.com/us-embassy-issue-terror-warning-for-americans-living-in-egypt/

Also on Friday, the chairwoman of the House of Representatives committee that oversees foreign aid said she would block $450 million in US assistance to Egypt in light of tense relations between the two countries.

You get the point. Obama is not in
charge. Romney would not be in charge. Politicians are the public face
of corporate power. They are corporate employees. Their personal
narratives, their promises, their rhetoric and their idiosyncrasies are
meaningless. And that, perhaps, is why the cost of the two presidential
campaigns is estimated to reach an obscene $2.5 billion. The corporate

Most scholarly books we read for the information or
insight they contain. But some we return to simply for the pleasure of
the author's company. For instance, I pick up Northrop Frye's Anatomy of Criticism
from time to time, just to refresh myself with its elegance and
clarity. Jane Aiken Hodge's biography of novelist Georgette Heyer,
another favorite, seems to me a model of delicacy, insight, and wit. I
feel almost learned every time I dip into Marcia Colish's Medieval Foundations of the Western Intellectual Tradition or the historical essays of Hugh Trevor-Roper.

In this elite company I place Richard Hofstadter's wide-ranging cultural history, Anti-Intellectualism in American Life,
recipient of the 1964 Pulitzer Prize for history. Its great theme --
our nation's longstanding "resentment and suspicion of the life of the
mind and of those who are considered to represent it" -- allows the late
Columbia professor to range from the Puritans and the Founding Fathers
to the McCarthy hearings, even touching briefly on the early days of the
Kennedy administration. But given its publication date, the book
doesn't treat the later 1960s, the heyday of student activism and
hippiedom, both of which were to appall Hofstadter, an old-time lefty,
because of their irrationality, anarchical antics, and unfocused
utopianism. Sadly, this productive, and sometimes polemical, historian
-- his other work includes The American Political Tradition (1948) and the famous title essay of The Paranoid Style in American Politics (1964) -- died at age fifty-four, from leukemia, in 1970.

Hofstadter's urbane and occasionally ironic style, coupled with a lively, invigorating diction, makes Anti-Intellectualism in American Life
a provocation and a delight: "I have no desire to encourage the
self-pity to which intellectuals are sometimes prone by suggesting that
they have been vessels of pure virtue set down in Babylon." In fact, he
merely hopes to "trace some of the social movements in our history in
which intellect has been dissevered from its co-ordinate place among the
human virtues and assigned the position of a special kind of vice."

"our nation's longstanding "resentment and suspicion of the life of the
mind and of those who are considered to represent it"

    true.
    however smart is NEVER enough.....

The aid is part of the $1 billion in assistance that the Obama administration has pledged to Egypt to bolster its transition to democracy after the overthrow last year of the former president, Hosni Mubarak. Its fate, however, was clouded by concerns over the new government’s policies and, more recently, the protests that damaged the American Embassy in Cairo.
The United States Agency for International Development notified Congress of the cash infusion on Friday morning during the pre-election recess, promptly igniting a smoldering debate over foreign aid and the administration’s handling of crises in the Islamic world.

In New York for the United Nations General Assembly, Georgian
President Mikheil Saakashvili strides down the street at a brisk pace,
his security details hustling to keep up, a man with a lot on his mind.

    On Monday his country
holds crucial parliamentary elections. The outcome will affect not only
parliament but the structure of political power in Georgia, and the role
of the presidency, almost nine years after the Rose Revolution brought
    Saakashvili to power.

    Until recently, the
ruling party, the United National Movement, has controlled much of
political life in this country of 4.5 million people. Georgia has thrown
off the shackles of its Soviet past. There are new, gleaming
skyscrapers. According to U.S. and European officials, the Georgian
government has made progress in the fight against corruption and has
    continued economic reform.

    But critics, who have
coalesced into the "Georgian Dream" alliance led by billionaire
businessman Bidzina Ivanishvili, say reform is only skin-deep, charging
that Saakashvili is pulling all the levers of Soviet-style
"administrative measures." They have raised concerns about a level
playing field for the opposition during this election, alleging
harassment and limitations on their access to the media.

In an interview with CNN, however, Saakashvili claimed that he can guarantee that the elections will be free and fair.

    "Not only I can guarantee
that," he said, but "the international community says that they will be
competitive, free and fair. That's what the preliminary reports of
    international organizations have clearly said."

An Iranian news agency has reported as fact an entirely fictitious
survey carried on The Onion website earlier this week which claimed that
most rural white Americans would vote for President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad
    ahead of Barack Obama.
    The English-language service of Iran’s
semi-official Fars news agency republished the spoof story from the
satirical website word-for-word. It even went so far as to
include a made-up quote from a fictional West Virginia resident it identified as Dale Swidersk who claimed he would rather go to a baseball
game with Mr Ahmadinejad because “he takes national defence seriously
and he’d never let some gay protesters tell him how to run his country
    like Obama does”.

Homosexuality is illegal in Iran and anyone found breaking its strict
laws on sexuality risks the death penalty. During a speech at Columbia
University in 2007 Mr Ahmadinejad told the audience that “in Iran we
don’t have homosexuals like in your country.”

The Onion story also cites a Gallup poll, which it says found that 60
per cent of rural whites “at least respected that Ahmadinejad doesn’t
try to hide the fact that he’s Muslim”
