I was driving on the freeway in the fast lane
ReplyDeleteWith a rabid wolverine in my underwear
When suddenly a guy behind me in the back seat
Popped right up and cupped his hands across my eyes
I guessed, "Is it Uncle Frank or Cousin Louie?"
"Is it Bob or Joe or Walter?"
"Could it be Bill or Jim or Ed or Bernie or Steve?"
I probably would have kept on guessing
But about that time we crashed into the truck
And as I'm laying bleeding there on the asphalt
Finally I recognize the face of my hibachi dealer
Who takes off his prosthetic lips and tells me
Everything you know is wrong
Black is white, up is down and short is long
And everything you thought was just so
Important doesn't matter
Everything you know is wrong
Just forget the words and sing along
All you need to understand is
Everything you know is wrong
I was walkin' to the kitchen for some Golden Grahams
When I accidentally stepped into an alternate dimension
And soon I was abducted by some aliens from space
Who kinda looked like Jamie Farr
They sucked out my internal organs
And they took some polaroids
And said I was a darn good sport
And as a way of saying thank you
They offered to transport me back to
Any point in history that I would care to go
And so I had them send me back to last Thursday night
So I could pay my phone bill on time
Just then the floating disembodied head of
Colonel Sanders started yelling
Everything you know is wrong
Black is white, up is down and short is long
And everything you thought was just so
Important doesn't matter
Everything you know is wrong
Just forget the words and sing along
All you need to understand is
Everything you know is wrong
I was just about to mail a letter to my evil twin
When I got a nasty papercut
And, well, to make a long story short
It got infected and I died
So now I'm up in heaven with St. Peter
By the pearly gates
And it's obvious he doesn't like
The Nehru jacket that I'm wearing
He tells me that they've got a dress code
Well, he lets me into heaven anyway
But I get the room next to the noisy ice machine
For all eternity
And every day he runs by screaming
Everything you know is wrong
Black is white, up is down and short is long
And everything you used to think was so important
Doesn't really matter anymore
Because the simple fact remains that
Everything you know is wrong
Just forget the words and sing along
All you need to understand is
Everything you know is wrong
Everything you know is wrong

ReplyDeleteLos Angeles Sheriff’s Dept Hiring Practices
ReplyDeleteDecember 2, 2013
From the Los Angeles Times:
The Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department hired dozens of officers even though background investigators found they had committed serious misconduct on or off duty, sheriff’s files show.
The department made the hires in 2010 after taking over patrols of parks and government buildings from a little-known L.A. County police force. Officers from that agency were given first shot at new jobs with the Sheriff’s Department. Investigators gave them lie detector tests and delved into their employment records and personal lives.
The Times reviewed the officers’ internal hiring files, which also contained recorded interviews of the applicants by sheriff’s investigators.
Ultimately, about 280 county officers were given jobs, including applicants who had accidentally fired their weapons, had sex at work and solicited prostitutes, the records show.
For nearly 100 hires, investigators discovered evidence of dishonesty, such as making untrue statements or falsifying police records. At least 15 were caught cheating on the department’s own polygraph exams.

ReplyDeleteAccording to the theory, Obama had gone to New London, Connecticut, to address the graduating class at the U.S. Coast Guard Academy but needed dental work after a portion of a pistachio nut shell became lodged in one of his molars.
ReplyDeleteThe president met Carey, who worked as a dental assistant for the local dentist he saw, and struck up “an almost immediate friendship” with her.
She became pregnant following the affair, the website claims, but refused the president’s instructions to have an abortion due to her Christian beliefs.
The site claims that encrypted electronic communications intercepted by the National Security Administration show that an elite hit squad was dispatched to kill Carey.
This same squad also attacked the U.S. Navy Yard in September and in June killed American journalist Michael Hastings and detectives investigating his death, according to the conspiracy theory.
Just in case the theory wasn’t convoluted enough, the site also claims that Obama engaged in the extramarital affair because his wife, Michelle Obama, was in fact born a man.

ReplyDeleteObamacare Website Costs Top $1 Billion
ReplyDeleteAlthough the GAO has made clear the limitations of its data, its $394 million tally for work through March 31 has been widely cited as the price tag for the entire launch of the "Affordable" Care Act. However, as Bloomberg's Peter Gosselin finds, looking at the full range of ACA-related contracts for just 10 firms, more than $1 billion worth of contract awards. Perhaps even more mind-blowing is that more than one third of the funds going to the top contractors working on the federal exchanges were awarded in the last six months - even as it was clear the project was failing.

ReplyDeleteThe skulls were found in what appears to have been a mass grave at the Shimao Ruins, the site of a neolithic stone city in the northern province of Shaanxi, China.

ReplyDeleteIt is indeed the increasing presence of Islam, and a fear of Islamism, which more than anything else has exposed the claims of the arts apologists to be seriously at the forefront of anything. My colleague Nick Cohen pointed out, when we debated freedom of expression at a recent Standpoint Salon, that some individuals in our media are prone to a fake courage and believe themselves to be taking huge risks in what they say and write. I think the same is true of the creative sphere. Over the past decade people in the arts have caved in and censored themselves at the prospect of Islamist reaction, sometimes out of fear of violence, other times a politically correct desire not to give offence, or because in some skewed way they feel their job is to stand up for those their dogma tells them are "victims".
ReplyDeleteWhen the Dutch filmmaker Theo van Gogh was murdered in broad daylight on an Amsterdam street by a Muslim extremist who had taken exception to Submission, a film the director had made about the treatment of women in Islam, there were few expressions of outrage from Britain's cultural establishment. On another occasion, London's Barbican Centre removed pieces from its production of Tamburlaine the Great for fear of offending Muslims. The filming of Monica Ali's bestseller Brick Lane was moved from the East End after the film company gave in to protests from activists. A reading at the Royal Court Theatre of an adaptation of Aristophanes "sex strike" play Lysistrata, set in Muslim heaven, did not go ahead. And when the BBC drama Spooks was criticised by some Muslim groups in its first series for portraying radicalisation in a mosque, it subsequently went out of its way to ensure that plotlines portrayed threats coming from just about any quarter other than Islam.
The drip-drip effect of such trimming and censorship is that the message becomes internalised. If such instances as those above appear to happen slightly less now, it is not because we have become more comfortable in our own skins, less paranoid. It is simply because we have learned what we can and cannot say, especially when it comes to Islam. Christianity of course remains the fair game it has always been. Jerry Springer: The Opera was oh-so-bravely broadcast by the BBC, in the face of thousands of telephone complaints from Christians. It could of course be done in the safe knowledge that nobody might face death as a result. But we can safely say that a country that produced the popular classic The Life of Brian must get used to the fact that it will never, ever see The Life of Iqbal.
Having set the ball rolling by asking whether art has lost its power to shock, Grayson Perry should perhaps get the last word. In 2007 he declared in a statement which some admired for its honesty but others might have seen as depressing evidence of how meek our arts had become, that when it came to his own work, he had "not gone all out attacking Islamism because I feel the real fear that someone will slit my throat". To which perhaps one can only answer: artist, heal thyself.

And you've got to indicate to the people who run it, to the people who own it, that unless you're free, the machine will be prevented from working at all!"
ReplyDelete- Mario Savio
According to hundreds of pages of FBI files, the bureau:
Collected, without court order, personal information about Savio from schools, telephone companies, utility firms and banks and compiled information about his marriage and divorce.
Monitored his day-to-day activities by using informants planted in political groups, covertly contacting his neighbors, landlords and employers, and having agents pose as professors, journalists and activists to interview him and his wife.
Obtained his tax returns from the Internal Revenue Service in violation of federal rules, mischaracterized him as a threat to the president and arranged for the CIA and foreign intelligence agencies to investigate him when he and his family travelled in Europe.
Put him on an unauthorized list of people to be detained without judicial warrant in event of a national emergency, and designated him as a "Key Activist" whose political activities should be "disrupted" and "neutralized" under the bureau's illegal counterintelligence program known as COINTELPRO.[11]

ReplyDeleteOn the fourth anniversary of his imprisonment, American-Jewish contractor Alan Gross feels that his country has "abandoned" him, and has made a personal appeal to President Barack Obama for his release from the Cuban penal system.
The Washington Post reports Tuesday that Gross drafted the letter from his Cuban prison cell, and sent it via the US Embassy in Cuba. The conditions he describes are horrific.
"For four years, I have been confined 23 hours a day to a small cell with two other inmates," Gross writes. "I spend my one hour outside each day in a tiny, enclosed courtyard."
"I don't sleep much, between my arthritis and the lights in my cell, which are kept on 24 hours a day," he continued.

In 1973, he released his first solo album, Garland Jeffreys, on Atlantic Records. Around the same time Atlantic also released a single, "Wild in the Streets", that was not included on the album. Jeffreys wrote the song after hearing about a pre-teen rape and murder in the Bronx. Dr. John played clavinet and helped arrange the song, with backing from guitarist David Spinozza, drummer Rick Marotta, the Brecker Brothers on horns and David Peel on background vocals. The track received airplay on the progressive FM album-oriented rock stations, and has become one of his best-known songs.

ReplyDeleteMartin Armstrong - In the next economic downturn, expect the Federal government to simply outlaw cash altogether. With rates already at zero and the Fed's tools for stimulating consumption all used up, the only way to prevent hoarding of cash, gold, or other tangible forms of wealth outside of the banking system is to go 100% electronic. Unfortunately, "It also means 100% of everything you ever do is taxed," he added.

ReplyDeleteBIRMINGHAM, Ala. — A woman charged with killing a fellow Alabama fan after the end of last weekend's Iron Bowl football game was angry that the victim and others didn't seem upset over the Crimson Tide's loss to archrival Auburn, said the sister of the slain woman.

If you don’t want to see our country turned into a schizophrenic cultural quagmire, call Speaker of the House John Boehner at 1 202 225 0600:
ReplyDeletehttp://newswithviews.com/Wooldridge/frosty909.htm
“Mr. Boehner, I understand that S744 doubles legal immigration from its current 1.0 million annually to 2.0 million while giving amnesty to 12 to 20 million illegal migrants. Do you understand that such an amnesty would flood America with over 100 million immigrants by 2050—a scant 37 years from now. How will we be able to water, house, work, feed, educate, medicate and care for that many people when we already suffer 48 million Americans who cannot secure jobs and live on food stamps? How will we maintain our environment and standard of living in light of those numbers. As an American citizen, I demand that you reduce all immigration to less than 100,000 annually and enforce the laws on the books to arrest, prosecute and jail employers of illegal migrants. That will help illegal migrants to go home on their own dime when they don’t have a job. Our own unemployed citizens can take those jobs at a living wage.”
Actually saw quite a few there
ReplyDeleteNekesa Shepherd said Briskey flew into a rage when she saw the sisters and others joking that the Crimson Tide’s loss wasn’t as bad as if the NBA’s Miami Heat had lost a game.
ReplyDelete“She said we weren’t real Alabama fans because it didn’t bother us that they lost. And then she started shooting,” Shepherd told The Associated Press.
Shepherd said she and her sister were invited to the party by a mutual friend who also invited Briskey. About two dozen people were on hand.

ReplyDeleteThe rift between Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and the prestigious Fethullah Gulen religious movement hit the surface last week. On Nov. 28, Mehmet Baransu of Taraf published a copy of a National Security Council (NSC) advisory ruling under the headline: “Measures needed to be taken to counter activities by the Fethullah Gulen group.”

ReplyDeleteIn some ways, 23andMe’s test kit detracts attention from the company’s larger presumed objectives. Much of 23andMe’s value is in the hundreds of thousands of genetic samples it has collected from its customers. Such a collection can aid medical research, but, more important, the data will probably be very useful in securing patents. This year, the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that human genes can’t be patented, but the court appeared to permit other kinds of patents within the field of genetics -– such as synthetic DNA.

ReplyDeleteI only thought of that because i got reallly a really dirty look from the priest when i took out my Jeeswhiz and put it on the wafer.
ReplyDeleteOn a whole host of issues — foreign aid, climate change, social inequality — the viewer, gallery-goer and novel-reader, far from being shocked, provoked or given even a slightly alternative perspective, generally know exactly what they are going to get. For our cultural establishment, there is a right and a wrong way of looking at such issues and as a result the arts, far from being "challenging" or "cutting edge", have essentially become the providers of window dressing, a sort of visual aid unit, for the views and assumptions of the political and media class.

ReplyDeleteMadison Root, 11, picked and wrapped mistletoe to sell at a Portland market to contribute to the cost of her braces

ReplyDeleteOn a side note, Luke has not eaten anything in the last two days. Vet put him on anti-biotics, hope they work soon.
