Amen Corner

“Cursed is anyone
who withholds justice
 from the foreigner,
 the fatherless
or the widow.”
Then all the people shall say,
 “Amen!”

Brothers with a ‘Free Zimmerman’ bumper sticker on their truck were slaughtered in a busy parking lot in Jacksonville, FL by “multiple perpetrators”. The police have not released descriptions of the suspects although there were many witnesses and they insist it was not a hate crime.

PIERS MORGAN: Let's talk about 'creepy ass cracka.' People have said that that is a phrase used by black people, cracka, to describe a white person. Is that true?

Babba, pbird, Grammy, and Hayseed. I've seen all of you do some pretty spectacular photos over the years and any tips and ideas would be appreciated.

Here's what I'm struggling with; I got lucky yesterday with the sunrise photos. I had a subject. I've gotten some people shots and I'm pretty happy with those also, but am finding that I'm curious about the physical world around me, sunrises for instance, the sun playing off of sea shells lined up along the railing of the beach house with distinct shawdows playing off of them, nature in general. I don't spend too much time down at the ocean and now I'm trying to get some more ideas for the subject to focus on. I enjoy the "time-lapsed" photos, sunrises for example, but am going to try and move onto the next subject this morning.

Any ideas or advice would be deeply appreciated for the todays subject. I maybe snap some more sunrise photos just because I know it's going to present itself here in about an hour, but I want to mix it up some. Of the sunrise photos, I like the sunrise through the seagrass best of all. Kind of texture and light I suppose. I don't know any photo lingo, but I know what I like.

Tom Negri and ‘Welcoming America’ are planning to “change” Cleveland starting tonight

Here is a glowing tribute to Negri’s role in bringing Somalis, Kurds and others to Nashville. But, here is one thing that isn’t mentioned in the tribute—Negri is opposed to free speech. In 2009 I was registered to attend a conference about political Islam at the Loews Vanderbilt hotel and just days before the conference, then hotel manager Negri broke the contract with organizers.

He apparently couldn’t abide the idea that people might meet in his hotel with a point of view different from his. Or, did he bow to pressure from the increasingly powerful Islamists in Nashville? The conference went on in a pleasant welcoming hotel elsewhere in the city.

Tonight ‘Welcoming America’ plans to begin changing Cleveland—bring in the immigrants to save the city!

Suddenly, it feels like 2000 again. Back then, surveillance programs like Carnivore, Echelon, and Total Information Awareness helped spark a surge in electronic privacy awareness. Now a decade later, the recent discovery of programs like PRISM, Boundless Informant, and FISA orders are catalyzing renewed concern.

"Interesting essay on the impossibility of being entirely lawful all the time, the balance that results from the difficulty of law enforcement, and the societal value of being able to break the law."

This is a peculiarity of certain legal systems. It is very much true in the USA. It is not true for every country.

For example, I never hear such quotes from continental Western Europe (I do not follow the UK). Nor do I see reports about non-sense arrests followed by fake charges of "resisting during arrest" etc. or innocent people getting convicted to years in jail because they "lied to a federal agent" when harassed about a crime they did not commit.

Vikernes, the man behind black metal project Burzum, had served 16 years of a 21-year prison term – the maximum sentence in Norway – for the murder of Øystein Aarseth, known as Euronymous, the guitar player of black metal band Mayhem. “

Vikernes had also been convicted of arson attacks on four churches. He was freed in May 2009. He then moved to France with his wife and three children.

Vikernes, a Pagan and vocal neo-Nazi sympathiser, had reportedly received a copy of the manifesto of Anders Behring Breivik, the far-right terrorist responsible for the July 2011 Oslo bombing and Utoeya Massacre which left 77 dead. Breivik was sentenced to 21 years in jail for terrorism on August 2012.

Breivik sending a copy of a manifesto setting out his ideology to Vikernes, an official at the prosecutor’s office said. “That was the origin of the investigation… There were several suspicions that made the services fear he could possibly carry out a violent act,” the official said.

On his website, Vikernes discusses Breivik’s manifesto, but in a post called “War in Europe: Part V – Breivik Unveiled” he also criticises the murderer for killing more innocent Norwegians than Muslims. Vikernes, who describes himself as a “pagan,” accuses Breivik of being a Zionist agent and “Christian loser”.

“If you, dear European nationalists, really want to save Europe (as a biological term) you have to realise that the only thing to do is to cast aside all Christian other international nonsense and embrace only the European (i.e. Pagan) values and ideals and if you like the European deities as well,” said the posting, dated December 13. “If you work for Christianity in any way you work for the Jews. Plain and simple.”

BW - on the subject of photography and light - depending on your camera, there is a gadget called a polarizing filter that screws to the lens. Not very costly and can really improve the quality of your images with regard to light angles, etc., by rotating the filter. Bluer skies, less glare, removes unwanted reflections and such. Used to one when I was into photography with my old film camera.

I've also learned that if you try too hard, it is often difficult to get that special shot you are looking for. I believe some of the best photos I ever took happened when I wasn't consciously trying. To me, what separates excellent photos from plain ones are the shots that translate the purely physical into an image that captures and reflects the spiritual nature at work within each of us at the moment that shutter is clicked.

Due to Increased Regulations, Millions of Americans Abroad Forced to Reconsider U.S. Citizenship

The Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act, or Fatca, is forcing millions of Americans living abroad to reconsider their U.S. citizenship, a lawyer, Colleen Graffy, writes in the Wall Street Journal.

"The legislation is Fatca, the Foreign Account Tax Compliance Act. To appreciate its breathtaking scope along with America's unique "citizen-based" tax practices, imagine this: You were born in California, moved to New York for education or work, fell in love, married and had children. Even though you have faithfully paid taxes in New York and haven't lived in California for 25 years, suppose California law required that you also file your taxes there because you were born there.

"A particularly alarming aspect of Fatca is that it seeks to co-opt foreign banks as long-arm enforcement agencies of the Internal Revenue Service—even when it might contravene that country's own privacy or data-protection laws. (Read on folks, read on)

On Monday evening, the evening of Tisha B'Av, the annual day of mourning for the destruction of the Temple, there was a "program" at the synagogue after evening prayers and the reading of Lamentations were over.

It was yet another lugubrious reminiscence of the Holocaust, and I could not take it---I walked out. I believe that the Holocaust needs to be remembered, but I think it is long past time for it to be remembered in context, and not remembered merely as something that happened to Dad, or---more likely these days---Grandpa or Great-Grandpa.

Viewing the Holocaust as a discreet event, free-standing, blinds us to the modern-day holocausts around us, or brewing around us---and the connection some of them have to that horrific event. Could well-meaning Jewish children make common cause with the "Palestinians," as many do, if they realized there was a direct connection between the "Palestinian" ideology and Hitler's Nazis?

Does not concentration on "the Holocaust" blind us to the modern-day holocaust of ill-taught Judaism falling prey to the "progressive" ideologies taught in public schools?

Does it not blind us to the fact that the people sporting swastika armbands and brown shirts today are little more than WWII re-enactors, as politically irrelevant as Civil War re-enactors---and that the new Nazis who are arising are more likely to be sporting a pin with an Obama "O" on their shirts than some motheaten Hitlerian relic?

    lugubrious:
    exaggeratedly or affectedly mournful

I do not know. I was not there so I can't assess the sort of "program" it was and if it was "out of context"

I do know that it has to be remembered and especially now because soon everyone who witnessed it first hand will be dead and the the rewriting of history can really begin.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_TEwesv1gug

    ReplyDelete
  93. BulgarWheat2:02 PM

excellent observation. I shall adopt this.

    ReplyDelete
  94. buzzsawmonkey2:03 PM

Yes, but the programs I see are usually same-old same-old. It's time people realized that everything except the camps was inflicted on the Jews of Eastern Europe after WWI, only 20 years earlier; the massacres, the herding of families into the synagogues that were then burned over them, the starvation---all of it.

The Holocaust was terrible because of the number killed, the introduction of mechanized genocide, and because it was an example of the world being perfectly happy to sit by and watch if they thought it would buy them a few moments' more peace.

If the people who "remember" the Holocaust don't know these contextual things, and cannot enunciate them, all the "memory" in the world will do no good. Individual atrocities no matter how ghastly have an automatic expiration date whereafter they have little power to evoke what they should.

    ReplyDelete
  95. BabbaZee2:08 PM

So if you are involved in this synagogue and care about it and the people that go to it maybe you should tell them next time you want to direct their holocaust remembrance program or at least help them put it together so that it is more effective?

It's not like she has any qualms about telling people how to live their lives, so it really is a stumper why America's First Lady wouldn't want to bring out the best in America's daughters. Unless... Well, there is a side-effect to teaching people to respect and, therefore, govern themselves. When people trust, respect and govern themselves, there is no need for her obese government to tell them what to do, and monitor their energy and check their fuel usage and plan their meals and so on. So, perhaps I have found the reason why Mrs. Obama doesn't teach the youth of today to respect themselves. Perhaps, it is because keeping them degraded and sexually promiscuous and ruled by emotion keeps them dependent on government. - See more at: http://cnsnews.com/commentary/jen-kuznicki/michelle-obama-could-help-stop-sexism-and-cultural-rot-if-she-wanted#sthash.GrB3ODvN.dpuf

Most food mixes are of dubious quality and a challenge to the digestive system. Babba recommended that I try "Levant Falafel Mix"...made by a Lesbianese company in Canada. I was amazed at the authentic flavour and and traditional seasoning of the Levant product.

Thank you Babba.... This falafel mix shall find a permanent spot in my cupboard!

Well, it seems this is another vacation with minimal to almost no rest, arranging to get a family picture seems to be impossible, and already others are making plans for the vacation next year. Masochism and having to pay for it ta boot...
I tried to bow out as gracefully as I'm able to for next year. I've just lost a job I've had for 13 years and making those kinds of commitments seems a little presumptuous. The daughter starts college in about a months time, we're still going to need to get some work done on the home, and day to day needs aren't going away as far as bills go.
I also let everyone know that I'll be making my own vacation plans from now on. I feel like something I began 14 years ago has been hijacked from me. To enjoy my vacation week, it has to be put in place by me according to my terms. If someone wants to join that's fine of course, but I establish the terms. For 11 out of 14 years that's the way it's been. I recognize that I'm being a control freak here, but with so many things in life spinning out of control I find that I'm putting my foot down against more and more. Family included.
I love these people. That's not the issue. The issue is that I want some semblance of control back in my life.
Also, financially if push comes to shove, my daughter's education, our home, and basic needs have to come first. There may or may not be a week at the beach next year. That's a reality that I'm fully prepared to deal with. Life is about GOD's word and how we manage it is about prioritizing WHAT sounds like fun and WHAT is essential. That may sound a bit harsh, but it's reality.
Everyone got very quiet after I let them all know that my family is not to be included for next years plans and GOD willing, if I'm able to, I'll be making my own plans.
And to think, Mr. Popularity was almost within my grasp!

My daughter is the shorter of the two. My niece just had her 16th birthday Tuesday this week. These two are the best of friends. They vanish whenever we get the two families together and go off and do their own thing. There's a two and a half year difference in ages, but that has never mattered. I imagine they'll dance at one another's weddings, attend each others children's Baptisms, and probably get together with their families a couple times a year the remainder of their lives. They're wonderful young ladies and I'm proud of both of them.

Grassley to Holder: Why is Your Department Hiding New Fast and Furious Murders?

Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley has sent a letter to Attorney General Eric Holder reminding him that the Department of Justice has an obligation to inform Congress when Operation Fast and Furious weapons are found at crime scenes. Just last week, the Los Angeles Times reported Mexican Police Chief Luis Astorga and his body guard were killed by cartels using guns from the lethal operation.

‘Ridiculous’: Reporters Mock, Sneer At Daily Caller Intern Who Dared Ask Jay Carney A Question

    http://www.mediaite.com/tv/rediculous-reporters-mock-sneer-at-daily-caller-intern-who-dared-ask-jay-carney-a-question/

The impropriety displayed on Wednesday by a high school-age intern who dared to ask White House Press Secretary Jay Carney a question relating to the security provided to the family of George Zimmerman knows no bounds. That is apparently the opinion of a number of members of the political press. After an intern had the temerity to ask Carney a question, the political media flew into a tizzy over the presumptuousness of the intern and turned to mocking him and the venue which credentialed him to be in the Briefing Room in the first place.

Moments after the event which shall henceforth be known as “Intern-Gate,” POLITICO’s Jennifer Epstein quickly posted a three sentence write up chronicling the incident. A subsequent post from Epstein revealed that the 16-year-old intern, Gabe Finger, asked Carney about the security provided Zimmerman’s family in the wake of the controversial not guilty verdict handed down last Saturday. Carney said that President Barack Obama and the Martin family have called for a non-violent reaction to the verdict.

“So, they’re on their own?” Finger followed up.

“You can editorialize all you want, and I’m sure that you will, but that is a ridiculous statement,” Carney shot back.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Chances are, your local or state police departments have photographs of your car in their files, noting where you were driving on a particular day, even if you never did anything wrong.

Using automated scanners, law enforcement agencies across the country have amassed millions of digital records on the location and movement of every vehicle with a license plate, according to a study published Wednesday by the American Civil Liberties Union. Affixed to police cars, bridges or buildings, the scanners capture images of passing or parked vehicles and note their location, uploading that information into police databases. Departments keep the records for weeks or years, sometimes indefinitely.

    http://www.weeklystandard.com/blogs/congressman-benghazi-survivors-forced-sign-non-disclosure-agreements_739975.html

"On Tuesday I raised the question of why none of the Benghazi survivors, whether State Department, CIA, or private security contract employees have testified publicly before Congress," said Wolf.

"According to trusted sources that have contacted my office, many if not all of the survivors of the Benghazi attacks along with others at the Department of Defense, the CIA have been asked or directed to sign additional non-disclosure agreements about their involvement in the Benghazi attacks. Some of these new NDAs, as they call them, I have been told were signed as recently as this summer."

Wolf continued: "It is worth nothing that the Marine Corps Times yesterday reported that the Marine colonel whose task force was responsible for special operations in northern and western Africa at the time of the attack is still on active duty despite claims that he retired. And therefore could not be forced to testify before Congress.
