So the possibility now exists for platoons of cars to go rogue at the command of computer-savvy terrorists, crazed exes, and parking attendants with Ph.D.s in computer science. But the truth is that hacking a car takes a lot of  time, effort, and money—three resources automakers are using to fight back.

Wow. Witness for Trayvon Martin can’t read letter she ‘wrote’ about the shooting

“Are you able to read that at all?” defense attorney Don West asked.

Jeantel, head bowed, eyes averted whispered into the court microphone, “Some but not all. I don’t read cursive.”

It sent a hush through the packed courtroom.

HIGH RIVER — RCMP revealed Thursday that officers have seized a “substantial amount” of firearms from homes in the evacuated town of High River.

“We just want to make sure that all of those things are in a spot that we control, simply because of what they are,” said Sgt. Brian Topham.

“People have a significant amount of money invested in firearms ... so we put them in a place that we control and that they’re safe.”

That news didn’t sit well with a crowd of frustrated residents who had planned to breach a police checkpoint northwest of the town as an evacuation order stretched into its eighth day.

“I find that absolutely incredible that they have the right to go into a person’s belongings out of their home,” said resident Brenda Lackey, after learning Mounties have been taking residents’ guns. “When people find out about this there’s going to be untold hell to pay.”

    I Miss Saddam

    By Theodore Shoebat

When Saddam was in power he kept control and stability in the Middle East; he kept Iran in check and struck fear into the hearts of all jihadists or anyone who planned on sedition. Now I know what you may be thinking: Saddam was a butcher, a tyrant–and you would be right. But, he was a leader perfect for the fierce Iraqi temper. The French philosopher Joseph de Maistre once wrote these wise and realistic words on how a form of government fits a people based on their nature:

For one nation, despotism is as natural and as legitimate as democracy for another.

With the ousting of Saddam came the arise of jihadism and chaos in Iraq (especially now with the Americans gone). The same is happening in Syria with the weakening of the Assad regime, and the fate of Iraq will be that of Syria’s if the dictator is disposed.

It has been reported that a Syrian bishop has been beheaded by Syrian jihadist criminals. Here is the video which is stated to capture this horrendous crime:

Bumblebee memorial scheduled for Sunday at Wilsonville Target

Fifty thousand bumblebees will be honored in a memorial this weekend at the Wilsonville Target where a majority of the insects died. State officials directly linked the die-off to trees that had been sprayed with the insecticide Safari.

Rozzell Medina, of Portland, said on the Facebook page that the event will "memorialize these fallen lifeforms and talk about the plight of the bees and their importance to life on Earth."

Medina said he will bring food to the memorial that relies on bees for pollination. The event is scheduled for 2 p.m. Sunday.

Syria has become a killing field of Christians, and the blood of saints can only be found on the hands of Allah the devil, Muhammad the heretic, and the United States and all of the Western allies who have been contributing to these gangs of ruthless heretics.

These terrorists would not have been tolerated under Saddam, Assad, nor under any pan-Arab dictator. Under the watch of America, countless Christians either left or were killed in Iraq. As of now, it has been reported that more than one million Christians have fled Iraq.

We've been warning of this since before Charlie JonesTown had gender re-assignment surgery.

Caroline B. Glick ........ US foreign policy is failing worldwide.

The Russian and Chinese embrace of indicted traitor Edward Snowden is just the latest demonstration of the contempt in which the US is held by an ever increasing number of adversarial states around the world.

Iran has also gotten a piece of the action.

As part of the regime's bread and circuses approach to its subjects, supreme dictator Ali Khamenei had pretend reformer Hassan Rohani win the presidential elections in a landslide two weeks ago. Rohani has a long record of advancing Iran's nuclear program, both as a national security chief and as a senior nuclear negotiator. He also has a record of deep involvement in acts of mass terror, including the 1994 bombing of the AMIA Jewish center in Buenos Aires that killed 85 people and wounded hundreds.

Yet rather than distance itself from Rohani the phony, the Obama administration has celebrated Iranian democracy and embraced him as a reformer. Obama's spokesmen say they look forward to renewing nuclear talks with Rohani, and so made clear — yet again -- that the US has no intention of preventing Iran from becoming a nuclear power.

Rohani responded to the administration's embrace by stating outright he will not suspend Iran's nuclear enrichment activities. In other words, so great is Iran's contempt for President Barack Obama and his administration — that it didn't even pay lip service to the notion of cutting a deal.

Jordanians are suspicious about U.S. weapons and troops being deployed to the
kingdom, even if Washington seeks to help its ally protect itself from a
possible spillover of Syrian violence, experts say.

Worried about the security of Jordan, which is already struggling to cope
with around 550,000 refugees from its war-torn northern neighbor, the United
States has kept F-16 warplanes and Patriot missiles in the country since a joint
military exercise ended on June 20.

A U.S. defense official has told AFP that Washington has expanded its
military presence in the country to 1,000 troops.

“Jordanians do not feel comfortable about the presence of U.S. troops,
weapons and equipment in the kingdom,” analyst Oraib Rintawi, who runs the
Al-Quds Center for Political Studies, told AFP.

“For Jordanians, the U.S. military presence is linked to plots and
conspiracies against their neighbors, which would impact the country itself.”

Nearly 1,200 people have starved to death in NHS hospitals because 'nurses are too busy to feed patients'
For every patient who dies from malnutrition, four more have dehydration mentioned on their death certificate
In 2011, 43 patients starved to death and 291 died in a state of severe malnutrition
Department of Health branded the figures 'unacceptable' and said the number of unannounced inspections will increase

“It’s not that bad to have behind you the Russians, the Chinese and Iranians,” Mr Jamil told the FT. “Those three countries are helping us politically, militarily – and also economically.”

Mr Jamil said Syria had an unlimited credit line with Tehran for food and oil-product imports. Damascus, he said, had also corrected its pre-crisis “mistake” of trading in western currencies and had switched transactions to Russian, Chinese and Iranian currencies instead.

    VA Hospital Dumping Patients?

    From KABC-7 in Los Angeles:

The Los Angeles Police Department is investigating two more alleged cases of hospital patients being dumped on L.A.'s Skid Row. In one incident, police are checking surveillance video.

LA-area private healthcare facilities have an ugly reputation for dumping homeless patients--that is, those with no medical insurance--onto the streets of its downtown-Skid Row area.

The one from the VA Hospital was returned to that hospital, but in the care of paramedics. The second man was cared for at the Union Rescue Mission for two days, then he walked off.

Los Angeles says VA 'dumped' patient at shelter

Veterans Affairs says its inquiries found no evidence the man was sent to the shelter against his will or without the ability to care for himself. The city attorney says the VA blocked a probe.

L.A. poised to go after Las Vegas hospital in patient-dumping cases

Years before a Las Vegas psychiatric hospital bused a homeless, schizophrenic man to Sacramento without arranging contacts or a plan for care, a different hospital ditched Gabino Olvera on Skid Row in Los Angeles.

Olvera, homeless and paraplegic, still dressed in his hospital gown and connected to a catheter bag, was found dragging himself along a gutter in 2007.

A Texas teenager who has been in jail since March faces an eight-year prison sentence because of a threatening joke he made while playing an online video game.

In February, Justin Carter was playing “League of Legends” — an online, multiplayer fantasy game — when another player wrote a comment calling him insane. Carter’s response, which he now deeply regrets, was intended as joke.

“He replied ‘Oh yeah, I’m real messed up in the head, I’m going to go shoot up a school full of kids and eat their still, beating hearts,’ and the next two lines were lol and jk,” said Jack Carter, Justin’s father, in a statement to a local news channel.

The statements “lol” and “jk” — meaning “laughing out loud” and “just kidding” — indicate that Justin’s statement was entirely sarcastic, said his father.

    REGARDING EMOTION AS COLOR

Loneliness is solitude with a problem. Can blue solve the problem, or can it at least keep me company within it? No, not exactly. It cannot love me that way; it has no arms. But sometimes I do feel its presence to be a sort of wink—“Here you are again,” it says, “and so am I.”

What actually happened was the government became intolerably powerful yesterday. There was a fundamental, irreversible shift in the way this country is governed. If you hated DOMA, you will pass lightly over this. You got what you wanted. Who cares how. If you loved DOMA, you will shed tears for the culture and rage at those who would destroy tradition.

Both sides will miss what was most important.

Read Justice Kennedy’s opinion; rather his cri de coeur, which can be summarized thusly: “A majority of my fellow citizens are my enemies and are evil. And I want what I want because I want it therefore what I want shall be so.” Good enough if you agreed with his desires. But never was there such a failure by the Court to uphold its traditional—and Constitutional—purpose.

  147. pbird4:25 PM

In the majority’s telling, this story is black-and-white: Hate your neighbor or come along with us. The truth is more complicated. It is hard to admit that one’s political opponents are not monsters, especially in a struggle like this one, and the challenge in the end proves more than today’s Court can handle. Too bad. A reminder that disagreement over something so fundamental as marriage can still be politically legitimate would have been a fit task for what in earlier times was called the judicial temperament. We might have covered ourselves with honor today, by promising all sides of this debate that it was theirs to settle and that we would respect their resolution. We might have let the People decide.

But that the majority will not do. Some will rejoice in today’s decision, and some will despair at it; that is the nature of a controversy that matters so much to so many. But the Court has cheated both sides, robbing the winners of an honest victory, and the losers of the peace that comes from a fair defeat. We owed both of them better. I dissent.

Such street planning assaults are happening all over the city as traffic lanes are torn out and eliminated to make way for impromptu sidewalk cafes and expanded sidewalks that often no one needs or wants. And then there are the ubiquitous bike and bus lanes which see about 1 percent of the traffic of the street and the sidewalk, but are approaching equal billing in terms of space.

When I wrote about Bloomberg's bike share program back a few months ago, I was attacked by the New York Times' Paul Krugman, Gawker, New York Mag and the New York Observer. It's easy to see what unites these outlets. They are the voices of the upscale city that doesn't drive to work, but is driven. The one that thinks the city is only a few bike lanes away from being properly European.

Krugman and Co. assumed that I was against bike shares because conservatives hate sharing. I don't claim to speak for conservatives, but most of them, I suspect, like me, are concerned about the political hijacking of urban spaces by a small elite. They are concerned that the new technocracy that men like Krugman and Bloomberg embody, are destroying the country for shallow and silly reasons.

    http://sultanknish.blogspot.com/2013/06/bike-lanes-to-nowhere.html?utm_source=feedburner&utm_medium=feed&utm_campaign=Feed%3A%20FromNyToIsraelSultanRevealsTheStoriesBehindTheNews%20%28from%20NY%20to%20Israel%20Sultan%20Reveals%20The%20Stories%20Behind%20the%20News%29

The old loud New York City is being made smooth and quiet. Old noisy bars are making way for fake retro establishments that look like they date back a hundred years ago, but weren't even there last week. Car lanes are giving way to bike lanes. On one side overgrown children gleefully pedal their Citibank bikes, a habit they will abandon when winter sets in. On the other, the grandchildren of factory workers and the children of postal workers, watch them go by.

    ReplyDelete
  150. pbird4:31 PM

The car owner is more likely to be a working man, while a bike communicates membership in a leisure class. Like an exercise programs, it says that the owner has the time and the money to take it slow, to not worry about timelines and deadlines, to do his own thing. The biking adult cares, which is the chief hobby of the leisure class. The more someone cares, the less he works. Caring is a full time job for people who don't have full time jobs.

The new elite cares. Its claim to caring is also its claim to power. They claim, therefore they rule. America doesn't really make things anymore. It cares. It cares so much that it invades other countries to change their governments. It cares so much that it squanders fortunes on foreign aid. It cares so much that it goes deep into debt to fund social services and then promote them. It cares so much that it bans salt, cars and large sodas while insisting that everyone ride bikes.

A high Iranian politician believes the Syrian revolution could be the catalyst for sparking a worldwide conflagration that will usher in an era of Muslim domination of the world.

“One can smell from the crisis in Syria the coming … of the end of times and the coming of the last Islamic messiah,” said Ruhollah Hosseinian, a member of the Islamic regime’s parliament. Previously he was deputy of the Intelligence Ministry and a member of board of trustees of Islamic Revolution Document Center.

Shiites, whose clerics rule Iran with an iron fist, believe that at the end of times, the 12th Imam, Mahdi, a 9th century prophet, will reappear with Jesus Christ at his side, kill all the infidels and raise the flag of Islam in all four corners of the world. Many analysts believe Iran is seeking nuclear capability to bring on that Armageddon.

Based on hadiths by Muhammad and his descendants, the Syrian revolution is a start to the coming of Mahdi, Hosseinian said in a speech quoted Thursday by Fars News Agency, a media outlet run by the Revolutionary Guards.

Following on yesterday’s 10th Circuit Court of Appeals ruling that Hobby Lobby can continue its lawsuit against the Obama administration’s contraception mandate on religious grounds, the U.S. District Court for the Western District of Oklahoma ruled today that the federal government must halt all enforcement of the mandate (and related financial penalties) against the Christian-based company. Hobby Lobby and sister company Mardel are suing the Department of Health and Human Services and Secretary Kathleen Sebelius, arguing that to force the company to pay for health insurance that must offer abortion-inducing drugs, as well as sterilization and contraception, is a violation of its religious liberty. In his order issued on Friday, U.S. District Judge Joe Heaton said the “court concludes plaintiffs [Hobby Lobby] have made a sufficient showing to warrant the issuance of a temporary restraining order in the circumstances existing here." - See more at: http://cnsnews.com/news/article/court-gov-t-must-halt-enforcement-sterilization-contraception-abortifacient-mandate#sthash.FpELZ2nF.dpuf
