A leading member of Egypt's Dostour Party, a group set up to promote the 2011 Egyptian revolution, has warned that the recent attacks on Christians at Cairo's St. Mark's Cathedral is a ploy to terrorize and intimidate the country's Christian population in response to opposition to current Egyptian President Mohamed Morsi and his supporters.

Toronto police have released updated descriptions of four women sought in a sexual assault on a 19-year-old man last month.

The suspects are all described as white, approximately 5-foot-4, and between 190 and 200 pounds.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSZDp73VTV0

They are believed to be between 30 and 36.

One of the women is described as having short blond hair and a tattoo of wings on the back of her neck. She has an accent, which could be British, and was driving the SUV in which the victim says he was attacked.

A second woman is described as having long dark hair, dyed red at the bottom.

All four women wore short black dresses and high heels, police said.

The attack allegedly occurred March 30, but was only reported to police last week.

Police said the man told them he met the women at a nightclub in the Entertainment District and was offered a ride home in a silver Honda SUV.

After leaving from the King St. and University Ave. area, police said the women parked in a lot in the Spadina Ave. and Queen St. W. area and sexually assaulted the man.

The Portuguese government is considering a plan to pay public workers and pensioners one month of their salary in treasury bills rather than cash after a high court ruled out wage cuts, a person familiar with the situation said Sunday.

"This is one of the ideas being considered," the person said.

By paying one month of salary in T-bills to public workers and pensioners, the government would save an estimated €1.1 billion in expenses, narrowing the budget gap significantly.

“We are representing a client right now who is impacted by this onerous activity of the government,” Tresmond told WBEN, a news talk radio station in Buffalo, New York.

“We were flummoxed by this whole matter,” the attorney said. “The HIPPA act is supposed to prevent this kind of thing from happening. It’s a gross invasion of our privacy rights.”

In a journal of Britain's prestigious Royal Society, US entomologists on Tuesday reported progress in a quest to emulate anti-bedbug defence found in the hairs of leaves from the kidney-bean plant, known by its Latin name of Phaseolus vulgaris.

In rural Bulgaria, Serbia and other parts of the Balkans, these leaves are scattered on the floor next to the bed, snagging the blood-sucking little parasites during their night-time forays.

The following day, the bug-encrusted leaves are burned to exterminate the pests

the opposite of the muppet flow) were stuck furiously scratching their
head. And granted while it's not a "Stolper", tonight we got two gifts

clients to sell gold following Goldman's lowering of its price target
for the yellow metal (which as always means

The Muppets are taking over Manhattan — and there’s nothing anyone can do about it.

City officials said yesterday they are powerless to stop Times Square’s growing horde of costume-wearing hustlers, who have plagued the area with a series of creepy and violent incidents, including an alleged Sunday attack on a 2-year-old.

“Dressing up in one of those suits and posing for photos is not a violation of the law,” NYPD Commissioner Ray Kelly said.

  109. Polenta & Mushrooms

Happy almost weekend! The weather is finally turning lovely and hopefully Spring is here for good. I'm crossing all my fingers and toes.

This is a quick post on how to turn food you made for dinner into leftovers for lunch or brunch the next day.

Simply put, PUT AN EGG ON IT ;)

A few months ago I had friends over for a Dinner Cookbook Party where we made dishes from Plenty Cookbook. One of the best ones was a Mushroom & Herb Polenta Dish with a ton of Parmesan and Taleggio cheese in it. You can see the recipe on my friend Cecilia's blog.

We improvised and took out tarragon, because I'm not a fan of this herb, but there was plenty of flavor from thyme and rosemary. Not to mention butter. And truffle oil.

Because the recipe made quite a bit, there were leftovers! The next morning, I reheated the leftovers and topped them with a fried egg and fresh thyme for a late breakfast.

Six people were killed, 12 injured, three seriously, when a heavy truck coming down the Bar Yehuda Road struck several cars, a bus and a group of pedestrians Wednesday afternoon at the Check Post intersection. Some of the cars went up in flames. The truck overturned. Initial suspicion of a possible terrorist attack was ruled out after the Arab driver was questioned by police. The investigation now focuses on a possible malfunction of the truck’s brakes.

Report: Immigration rises, poor hardest hit

The poorest and least-skilled in America suffer the most from legal and illegal immigration as competition for jobs reduces wages, according to a new report by a leading immigration economist.

Harvard economist George Borjas spoke about his report on immigration and its effects on the U.S. worker in a Tuesday conference call with reporters. He said the focus of his report was to answer “what happens when immigrants come into the labor market,” one of the central questions in the debate over immigration reform.

ROME, Maine (AP) - A man who lived like a hermit for decades in a makeshift camp in the central Maine woods, who may be responsible for more than 1,000 burglaries for food and other staples, has been captured, authorities said.

Christopher Knight, 47, was arrested last week when he tripped a surveillance sensor set up by a game warden while stealing food from a youth camp in Rome, state police say in a court affidavit.

Authorities on Tuesday found the campsite where they believed Knight - known as the North Pond Hermit in local lore- has lived for 27 years.

Residents of the town with a year-round population of about 1,000 say they've been aware of the hermit for years, often in connection with break-ins that have occurred. Some have spotted him walking along the side of the lake known as Great Pond and others have seen his living quarters, which include a tent covered by tarps suspended between trees, a bed, propane cooking stoves and a battery-run radio.

"Anybody that's hunted in the woods has seen a pile of rubble but didn't think anything of it," Ron Churchill, owner of Bear Spring Camps in Rome, said Wednesday. Employees who maintain his camp's lakeside cabins have seen the man thought to be the hermit in the past.

In this case, their protective coloration is to become a large and lavish screen that the proles below may watch; a kind of Dreamland Drive-In. In events such as this shadow of Soul Train they are projecting a lush fantasy world that their supporters can project themselves into and revel in. It is an extension of "even a cat can look at a king" into, through the magic of television and magazines and other venues, the Obamas' worshipers can imagine themselves living the life of the Obamas. All the Obamas have to do is to consistently show themselves to be worthy of their cohort's fantasies.

It’s beginning to look a lot like 1913, a decade before the peak of the Social Darwinism
movement, a time when educated and concerned people joined the Race Betterment Foundation and looked to the settled science of eugenics to save civilization from the growing horde of the genetically inferior.

Consider David DeGrazia, tenured at George Washington University, who in the Journal of Medical Ethics recently advocated creating a master race via programmatic “moral bioenhancement.” Like many, DeGrazia gazed upon the earth and saw “an abundance of immoral behaviour.” He worried “traditional means of moral enhancement may prove inadequate to achieve needed improvements,” therefore more drastic measures are called for. Such as selection “of embryos that contain a gene coding for a greater disposition to altruism” or even implanting an “artificial chromosome that includes multiple genes coding for stronger predispositions to a variety of moral virtues.”
    Yow!

The buzzword among cognoscenti is “post-person,” defined in a much-cited 2009 Philosophy and Public Affairs paper by tenured Duke professor Allen Buchanan, as those “who would have a higher moral status than that possessed by normal human beings” (emphasis original). Buchanan admits crafting chromosomal übermenschen “might be profoundly troubling from the perspective of the unenhanced (the mere persons) who would no longer enjoy the highest moral status, as they did when there were only persons and nonpersons (‘lower animals’).” There’s ample precedent to create this new hierarchy: “the profoundly demented and infants, do not have some of the characteristics that moral philosophers typically attribute to persons and that are thought to ground the distinctive rights that persons have.” Daniel Wikler, tenured at Harvard, agreed in a 2009 article contributed to Human Enhancement figuring that once we create super-moral beings, it makes sense to restrict the legal rights of the not-so-super.
