Saint Of Me

Those who were musicians,
heads of Levite families,
stayed in the rooms of the temple
and were exempt from other duties
because they were responsible for the work
day and night.

U.S. Muslim Brotherhood Figure Plays Role In Omani Islamic Banking

    http://globalmbreport.org/?p=8006&print=1

Last month, the sultanate’s central bank released an extensive Islamic banking rulebook which included provisions for sharia scholars, such as fit-and-proper criteria and term limits on scholars’ appointment to sharia boards, which decide whether products and activities obey Islamic principles. Oman is the last country in the six-nation Gulf Cooperation Council to introduce Islamic banking, but the level of detail in the rules could help set it apart from the others, and even give it some
influence over global trends in the industry.

Francis (1181/2-1226) was scrawny and plain-looking. He wore a filthy tunic,
with a piece of rope as a belt, and no shoes. While preaching, he often would
dance, weep, make animal sounds, strip to his underwear, or play the zither. His
black eyes sparkled. Many people regarded him as mad, or dangerous. They threw
dirt at him. Women locked themselves in their houses.

It is easily overlooked nowadays, but fascism at its heart was a leftist movement. Mussolini never made a secret of his orgins: "I am and always will be a socialist. My convictions will never change. They are implanted into my bones," he told his comrades as they expelled him from the party at the outbreak of war in 1914 because of his pro-war stance.

The professional Progressive Movement that we see reflected in the pages of The Nation magazine, in the online marketing and campaigning of MoveOn and in the speeches of Van Jones, is primarily a political public relations creation of America’s richest corporate elite, the so-called 1%, who happen to bleed Blue because they have some degree of social and environmental consciousness, and don’t bleed Red. But they are just as committed as the right to the overall corporate status quo, the maintenance of the American Empire, and the monopoly of the rich over the political process that serves their economic interests.

Over 1,000 Bags Filled With Jewish Religious Items Piled Up Along NJ Road
    http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2013/03/15/over-a-thousands-bags-filled-with-jewish-religious-items-piled-up-along-nj-road/
A rabbi in New Jersey is in a burial bind.

Religious items that should be buried instead ended up on a dirt road following a struggle between the rabbi and the state.

    It is an unbelievable sight.

More than 1,000 bags, filled with Jewish religious items, piled up along a dirt road in Lakewood.

The bags are part of an Orthodox Jewish custom known as shamos, where books and other sacred objects must be buried not destroyed.

Court papers show the bags were illegally buried at the location, but recently were dug up after a judge ordered the rabbi responsible to remove them.

Larry Simons, Jewish himself, first alerted the state’s Department of Environmental Protection about the bags.

“This has been since 2010,” Simons told CBS 2′s Christine Sloan on Friday. “I have to obey the law; you have the obey the law. That’s what the law is for.”

There are hundreds of bags at the site. Simons said they are just a portion of what was initially dumped. Many of the bags are split open with religious items in them.

Zimbardo uses the term 'evil' but I prefer a different term, the 'erosion of empathy', because whilst the word 'evil' is used as if it is an explanation ("He did X because he is evil"), in fact evil is just a word meaning "the absence of good", getting us into a dangerous circularity ("He did X because he is not good"). The term 'evil' doesn't take us any further forward. In contrast, the concept of empathy (or its erosion, by degrees) has explanatory power, because empathy can be measured and analysed scientifically in terms of the factors that influence how much empathy each of us has.

Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood (MB) chief Mohamed Badei and Hamas politburo chief Khaled Meshaal met Saturday in Cairo on security issues as well as the latest developments of the Palestinian issue, the official website of MB' s Freedom and Justice Party said.

During the meeting Meshaal reaffirmed the Palestinians' respect for the security of Egypt and their noninterference in Egypt's domestic affairs.

"Besides its position and leadership in the Arab and Muslim worlds, Egypt represents a strong supporter for the Palestinian cause in the past, at present and in the future," the website quoted Meshaal as saying.

The website said Meshaal stressed the Palestinians' appreciation for "the sacrifices of Egypt and the Egyptian army." The Hamas chief also said he was in constant contact with the Egyptian presidency and intelligence for coordination "in a way that serves the Egyptian national security."

  102. Wardak: ANSF Turn on SOF?

On March 11th, two U.S. SOF soldiers were killed and several more were wounded when an Afghan policeman fired a vehicle mounted machine gun at a group of SOF soldiers operating in the Jalrayz district of Maidan Wardak.

The SOF unit returned fire and killed three Afghan police as well as the man who fired the mounted machine gun. The personnel who fired upon the U.S. soldiers were thought to be Afghan National Security Forces since they were wearing the uniforms, but it seems as though they were much more.

    According to an ISAF representative:

“Two US Forces-Afghanistan service members died in eastern Afghanistan today when an individual wearing an Afghan National Security Forces uniform turned a weapon on U.S. and Afghan forces.”

This attack happened exactly one day after the deadline that Afghanistan president Karzai set for all SOF to leave Maidan Wardak. Was this a coincidence? Definitely not. According to the Long War Journal’s Threat Matrix, in October of 2012, Taliban Emir Mullah Omar released an Eid al-Adha message that urged followers to:

“Increase your efforts to expand the area of infiltration in the ranks of the enemy and to bring about better order and array in the work…We call on the Afghans who still stand with the stooge regime to turn to full-fledged cooperation with their Mujahid people like courageous persons in order to protect national interests and to complete independence of the country. Jihadic activities inside the circle of the State militias are the most effective stratagem. Its dimension will see further expansion, organization and efficiency if God willing.”

Police say an armed man barricaded himself inside an eastern Pennsylvania sports store bathroom and killed himself.

Police say the man entered Dick's Sporting Goods in Fairless Hills on Saturday night and asked to see a shotgun and ammunition. Once the clerk handed those over, the man pulled out a handgun and ordered the worker to undo the shotgun's gun lock.

Police say the man then barricaded himself inside a bathroom in the Bucks County store. He didn't take any hostages. The store and nearby businesses were evacuated during the four-hour-long standoff.

Police say the gunman died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound. His name wasn't immediately released. No one else was hurt. Lt. Henry Ward says the man had been involved in a standoff with Middletown officers in 2002.

ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A double amputee shot a Walmart manager Saturday after he was asked to put his service dog on a leash, Anchorage police said.

An off-duty police officer who was shopping at the time detained the suspect as he was trying to leave the store, said Anita Shell, a police spokeswoman.

Daniel Pirtle, 45, was questioned at police headquarters and charged with assault and misconduct involving a weapon. He was jailed and cash only bail was set at $50,000.

The funniest line in Taken 2 was Neeson’s advice to his daughter in an emergency: “Go to the U.S. embassy. You’ll be safe there.” It opened a couple of weeks after Benghazi.

  143. I wished I had you in Carrickfergus,
    Only for nights in Ballygrand,
I would swim over the deepest ocean,
The deepest ocean to be by your side.

But the sea is wide and I can't swim over
And neither have I wings to fly.
I wish I could find me a handy boatman
To ferry me over to my love and die.

My childhood days bring back sad reflections
Of happy days so long ago.
My boyhood friends and my own relations.
Have all passed on like the melting snow.

So I'll spend my days in endless roving,
Soft is the grass and my bed is free.
Oh to be home now in Carrickfergus,
On the long road down to the salty sea.

And in Kilkenny it is reported
On marble stone there as black as ink,
With gold and silver I did support her
But I'll sing no more now till I get a drink.

I'm drunk today and I'm rarely sober,
A handsome rover from town to town.
Oh but I am sick now and my days are numbered
Come all ye young men and lay me down.

I wish you'd put the battered kettle on
The bag could take one steeping more
I'd walk for miles across a rocky down
To hear the whistle we're all waiting for

The gulf yawns wide and I can't leap over
Until my time is drawing nigh
You're laid to rest in the nonesuch clover
When you were here you slipped on by

Those Christmas days and our destinations
Trolley rides through the dirty snow
My childhood's gone, like passing stations
Eyes full of tears, some from the cold

Our business is to be men, our business work. We did not make a beautiful stay in fitting and waiting in lines. We do not stand at the stove with a spatula, we are not talking this jacket. We do not go to the shops for fun - we do not like to walk. We like to work. Work - this is our style. We're doing big things big funds. No, we did not declare war on you, we just say enough. Enough to stop us be men! We have our own shopping. We do not buy and acquire. We are not looking, and choose. And we do not sell - because this man is priceless.

  188. The power of NO!

The word most desperately needed in America today is “NO!”

NO! You cannot take my rifle.

NO! You cannot force me to buy health insurance I don’t want.

NO! You cannot limit my right to peacefully protest on a sidewalk near the President.

NO! You cannot arrest our farmers for selling raw milk.

NO! You cannot use your dirty TSA gloves to stick your fingers in my anus at the airport, you f*#king pervert!

    NO! NO! NO!

I find it astonishing that so few Americans are willing to utter the word, “NO!” Yet this is the most powerful word in any free nation
