MONEY ON THE MOVE AHEAD OF '13 TAX CONFUSION...

I was fortunate that I could hand my daughter enough for a four year degree,...tuition, books, and living (dorm, she can get a job anything beyond that) for her 18th birthday. I sold all my stock in late September while the stock was still at a high-water mark.

Money is not only fleeing the investing public market, it's fleeing the country and frankly it would take GovCo 15/20 years to figure out how to stop it on todays terms. Fortunately, we the people can change the terms during the next 15/20 years.

Syria: Is the World Waiting for Genocide?

    http://www.aina.org/news/20121128195258.htm

With the Christian holidays weeks away, it would be shameful to celebrate the birth of a man of peace and humanity -- whose native language, Aramaic, is still spoken in Syria's Ma'loula -- when genocide instead of brotherly love stalks the very lands he and his disciples roamed millennia ago.

“We have almost 90 million Egyptians rallied up on one side,” Shafiq said, referring to all those who oppose the Muslim Brotherhood. He accused the Brotherhood of receiving financial funding from abroad, which allows the group to rent buses and transport people to Tahrir square to protest in support of Morsy’s decisions.

Shafiq stated that he fears nothing, adding that the number of protesters who took to the streets on Tuesday surpassed the number of those who occupied the streets on 25 January, 2011. “I just hope we can achieve what we want with the least amount of loss.”

Shafiq was the Minister of Civil Aviation in the cabinet that preceded the January 2011 revolution. On 29 January 2011, former President Hosni Mubarak appointed him as prime minister. He was replaced on 3 March 2011.

There was another night of clashes between anti-Morsi protesters and police in Cairo following on from Tuesday's demonstration, when tens of thousands of Egyptians filled Tahrir Square to demonstrate against a decree that would grant President Mohamed Morsi extraordinary powers.

President Morsi's party, the Muslim Brotherhood hopes to end the crisis by replacing the controversial decree with an entirely new constitution that would need to be approved in a popular referendum.

Mr Morsi is expected to address the nation on Thursday.

According to the notice of intent to sue, Tinsley arrived at Karla Huaman's home on Nov. 15 and was told that the boy was refusing to attend a court-ordered psychological evaluation. After reading the court order, Tinsley told the boy, who was on the couch wearing only his underwear, "I'll give you two seconds to get dressed." When the boy said that two seconds wasn't enough time, Tinsley "exploded," according to the notice, "lunged at the child … putting the child's head into a headlock … repeatedly punched the child in the face and stomach."

After struggling with the boy, according to the notice, and "despite pleas to stop from the child's mother," Tinsley "slammed the child face-first to the floor, shoved his knee into his face, yanked his arms behind his back and handcuffed him." http://www.courant.com/community/east-hartford/hc-east-hartford-lawsuit-1128-20121128,0,3300745.story East Hartford Officer Accused Of Punching 12-Year-Old

    anthropology!

    ReplyDelete
  89. There’s a whole chapter on joking, humor and cleverness among hackers. And that, to me, was one of the fascinating areas. And I feel that I’ve just scratched the surface with that chapter — to how deep and complex their oral histories are and their folklore is. And how they record it in everything from how they name pieces of software, which are often historical references to the past, to just the enormous amount of writing that computer hackers do in the non-technical sense: manifestos and zines and science fiction, you know

And I was just kind of astounded by that at some level. And astounded by the way in which on the one hand the hacker world was the place where the culture of civil liberties was on fire. And that’s something that anyone can relate to because people beyond the hacker world know about free speech and privacy. And on the other hand, there was this aesthetic world that was intensely focused on itself and was very difficult to translate to the general public.

And so that kind of melding of the deep pleasures of hacking and the cultures of civil liberties were something that I thought was quite anthropological. But my peers were really unconvinced of it.

On Thursday of this week, the U.S. Senate will be examining a set of proposals which could have profound implications for the future of privacy. One proposal will allow federal agents to seize all digital data--even mere computer keystrokes as they are being executed--without a search warrant, and the alternate proposal will protect all digital data from government seizure by requiring search warrants as a precondition for seizing any of it.

    scientists say.

The supermassive black hole has a mass equivalent to 17 billion suns and is located inside the galaxy NGC 1277 in the constellation Perseus. It makes up about 14 percent of its host galaxy's mass, compared with the 0.1 percent a normal black hole would represent, scientists said.

  132. The use of end of life care methods on disabled newborn babies was revealed in the doctors’ bible, the British Medical Journal.

Earlier this month, an un-named doctor wrote of the agony of watching the protracted deaths of babies. The doctor described one case of a baby born with ‘a lengthy list of unexpected congenital anomalies’, whose parents agreed to put it on the pathway.

The doctor wrote: ‘They wish for their child to die quickly once the feeding and fluids are stopped. They wish for pneumonia. They wish for no suffering. They wish for no visible changes to their precious baby.

Today the UN is expected to complete the journey it began in November 1974 when it invited a mass-murderer from Egypt to speak in its General Assembly. At the time Yasser Arafat said he brought with him an olive branch of peace, and a gun. To the day he died, Arafat turned down every opportunity to use the olive branch but never skipped a chance to use the gun.

Poor confused kid, he's spent most of his life in this "hive of oppression". I hope he's saving his money, probably won't be working again in Hollywood..

Angus T. Jones, the “Half” on CBS’s “Two and a Half Men,” wants us to know how sorry he is if we misunderstood him when he described as “filth” the show that’s paying him millions of dollars a year, and begged people to stop watching it.

Also weighing in Wednesday on Jones’s biting of the hand that feeds him — you know this one’s coming: “Men’s” 2011 career-killer Charlie Sheen, who said it is impossible for anyone to spend 10 years in show creator Chuck Lorre’s “hive of oppression” without suffering “some form of an emotional tsunami.”

Jones said, in a video that spread like wildfire this week: “I’m on ‘Two and a Half Men’ and I don’t want to be on it. Please stop watching it. Please stop filling your head with filth.” But what he meant, he explained late Tuesday, was: “I am grateful to, and have the highest regard and respect for, all of the wonderful people on ‘Two and a Half Men’ with whom I have worked and over the past 10 years who have become an extension of my family.”

  173. It’s funny, the way many families contain individuals who invariably cause horrible problems on holidays. There’s always some nut who shows up drunk and wants to fight in the yard, or who has a long list of grievances that MUST be recited right before you say grace. Sometimes it’s a middle-aged woman who gets a load on and embarrasses herself hitting on her niece’s boyfriend. Maybe it’s a vegan who thinks Thanksgiving is the best time for a self-righteous rant about turkey rights.

If you’re a jerk, why not do your job on an ordinary weekday after work? Why does it have to be Christmas, Thanksgiving, an anniversary, or a birthday? People realize that jerks need time to do their thing. We can give you a few minutes on a random Wednesday or Monday. Why can’t you be thoughtful and give us a rest on special days when we break our backs trying to unite in love and peace?

We need a new holiday. All Jerks’ Eve. We can do it in June, when people feel so good, a jerk can’t do too much damage. On All Jerk’s Eve, we will gather at places like Burger King and White Castle for half an hour, and the family jerks can spend ten or fifteen minutes whining and moaning because Daddy gave Bobby a nicer bicycle in 1952, or whatever it is they want to cry about. They can wear festive crowns of thorns and T-shirts emblazoned with the word “VICTIM.” At the end, we can all bow down and say, “We are the cause of all your problems, we take you completely seriously, and we salute your martyrdom.”

We can have a time of shopping discounts before All Jerks’ Eve, only instead of Black Friday, it will be the Solemn Week of Petulance and Despair.

I have to stop. I’m cracking myself up.

  174. But as we have discussed in the past, it is man's very capacity for truth that renders him capable of issuing lame excuses. Look at Obama. He, of all people, knows exactly what went down in Benghazi -- just as I, as a six year-old, knew exactly what had gone down with the paint brush and motor oil. The ridiculous lies are a reflection of that simple fact.

Of course, if he were candid, Obama would tell you that he couldn't disclose the truth about Benghazi because it would have threatened his candidacy and therefore placed his entire agenda in jeopardy. The problem there is that his agenda is an even bigger Lie. The biggest, even.

  175. But if you have a spiritually infused intellect, you shouldn't see the world the way the flatlanders do -- and not just because you superimpose some byte of dogma over it. In the end, that's hardly better than superimposing any other ideology over reality, as does the left.

Sheed writes that it is not sufficient to simply see "what other people see, plus certain features taught us by our religion." We can't just see the same meaningless world with a few religious patches here and there. This approach is very easy to lampoon. I used to do it myself.

Sheed uses the example of a person with beautiful eyes. Remove one of them and serve it on a plate, and it's no longer beautiful. It's the same eye. What gives?

There’s a reason why he’s happy. He didn’t have to rummage through piles and piles of pants, never had to deal with an annoying salesperson and wasted zero time waiting in line at the register.

For Cotter, this is a sense of accomplishment. And even more than that, he’s flat-out impressed with the shopping experience at Hointer, Seattle’s newest men’s clothing store that’s powered by robots and your smartphone.

“It’s a high-tech solution to the old-world problem of men who don’t like to shop,” said Cotter, the founder of SquareHub who bought three pairs of pants. “This isn’t shopping. This is focused, high-efficiency buying.”

Monsignor Angelo Mascheroni, the diocese’s chief exorcist since 1995, said the curia had also appointed twice as many exorcists to cope with a doubling in the number of requests for help over 15 years.

“We get many requests for names, addresses and phone numbers; that’s why we’ve set up a switchboard in the curia from Monday to Friday from 2.30pm to 5pm,” he told the chiesadimilano website.
