At White House, Mubarak urges speeding up Mideast peace talks
Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak used a newfound welcome mat Tuesday at the White House to urge the United States to accelerate Mideast peace talks, skipping past temporary steps that he said have led nowhere and moving instead to a final negotiation about the status of Jerusalem, of refugees and of borders.Mubarak said that President Barack Obama promised to roll out a specific U.S. peace plan in the next several weeks, in time for a gathering of world leaders at the United Nations in New York in late September.

Jihadi Public Relations
By Walid Phares
How far will terrorists go to cloak themselves in legitimacy? Last week’s action in the Gaza Strip, now governed by the terrorist network Hamas, is a good example.
Hamas’ attack against the Jund Ansar Allah (JAA, “The Soldiers or the Partisans of Allah”), a Jihadist group inside Gaza, was intended to provide the Palestinian Islamist organization a pass to become a “mainstream” movement, acceptable internationally as a partner in peace negotiations with Israel.

This is another murky development in the world of Jihadism, where the biggest brothers in holy war devoured the little ones in a race between who can achieve final victory against the Kuffar (infidels). In Gaza, these intra-Jihadist slaughter fests are more important because the “Palestine cause” is so central to the global Islamist political narrative.

Accidentally on purpose. No one "escapes" in the ME, believe me. They were allowed to escape. Maybe it did not even happen this way at all and they let them out the front gate, but it is great propaganda for them either way.

Jihad Magazine Warns of Terror Attacks in Europe
SNIP

I can't find the original Sun article, but according to Express India the source of The Sun is a website "promoted by supporters of deported hate preacher Abdullah al-Faisal".

Pop quiz: Al Faisail's "official" website is run by whom? That's right, New York City's only Jewish al Qaeda supporter, Joseph "Youssef al-Khattab" Cohen.

And the magazine being promoted by Khattab? None other than Charlotte, North Carolina's favorite son, Samir Khan's Jihad Recollection.

So, the the publisher (Khan) and promoter (Cohen) of the magazine containing the alleged threat of a "spectacular attack" are both here in the United States, not in Britain as Robert surmises.

But what of "Abu Talha", the pseudonymous author of the article cited above and entitled, "The raison d’être for Europe’s potential of Jihadi assault"? And whom Spencer surmises is British?

He's American.

Hizb ut-Tahrir: “what is required is actual war”

SNIP

I will begin with a statement issued by Ata Abu Rishta as the official spokesperson of HT (and now its global leader) in Jordan in May 1994, a few weeks before the Cairo Agreement;

There can be no peaceful relations with the Jews: this is prohibited by Islamic Law. It is also prohibited to settle for only part of Palestine. There can be neither negotiations, co-existence nor normalization of relations with the Jews in Palestine. None of the Jews in Palestine who arrived after the destruction of the Ottoman Empire have the right to remain there. The Islamic legal rule requires that those of whom are capable of fighting be killed until none survive. Any others should be forced to leave. Individual Jews who lived in Palestine (as part of a dhimma community) before the end of the (Ottoman) empire and are not guilty of any violent act against the Muslims can be allowed to stay… however, it is anticipated that none belong in this category. It is impossible to solve the problem of Palestine by peaceful means: what is required is actual war, in the form of Jihad.

Iraqi leader wants Syria to hand over suspects
Iraq's prime minister is asking Syrian officials to hand over people suspected of links to insurgent attacks in his country and to stop fighters from crossing its border into northern Iraq, one of his advisers said Tuesday.

Nouri al-Maliki was pressing the request in talks with Syrian officials in Damascus, as Iraq seeks to improve security cooperation with its neighbor and cut off the flow of weapons and foreign fighters to remaining insurgent strongholds like Mosul, 225 miles (360 kilometers) northwest of Baghdad. His visit also uncovered strains with the United States, which angered Iraq by sending a high-level delegation to Syria last week for meetings that included similar discussions over Iraq's security. That prompted al-Maliki's government to insist that it was not up to the United States to negotiate over Iraq's security with another country.

This strong and still growing interest has to do with the geo-strategic location of the vast landlocked region, sandwiched between Russia, China, Iran and Afghanistan, but also with its sizeable energy resources, critical for a high-demand growth and tight supply global context. FED extends TALF Bailouts
The Federal Reserve and the US Treasury on Monday extended a $200bn programme designed to revive the securitisation market, bringing relief to investors concerned that the supply of cheap government financing was set to end.The term asset-backed securities loan facility (Talf), in which the Fed lends to investors wanting to buy securitised loans, is to be extended by three to six months from the original year-end expiry date. “Conditions in financial markets have improved considerably in recent months,” the Fed and Treasury said.

“Nonetheless, the markets for asset-backed securities backed by consumer and business loans and for commercial mortgage-backed securities are still impaired and seem likely to remain so for some time.”Talf will now run until March 31 for newly issued ABS and legacy CMBS and until June 30 for new CMBS deals, which can take a considerable time to arrange.

The commercial real estate industry – widely seen as one of the most fragile areas in the US economy – had warned that it lacked time to package mortgages under the original deadline. The Securities Industry and Financial Markets Association and the American Securitization Forum said in a statement: “The recovery of securitisation is vital to the continued availability of affordable consumer and business credit, and to overall economic recovery and growth, and we strongly support extension of the Talf programme.” Commercial real estate prices are down 25 per cent in the last year and nearly 30 per cent below the peak in prices in October 2007, according to Moody’s Investors Service.

US Army North NCOs adapt to new challenges during Vibrant Response
"In all of my previous units, I was given a group of Soldiers, a stack of weapons, a map, a place and told to execute my mission," said Hammond, who has served during two combat tours in Iraq. "That's what I know, and that's what I am good at."

The NCOs have essentially gone from serving as mentors for their Soldiers to serving with a senior command that has a mission unlike any other Army unit - to help the American people in a time of need. Now, instead of presenting classes on how to react to contact or establish a checkpoint, they undergo training focused on Defense Support to Civil Authorities.
Homeland Security: Roles and Missions for United States Northern Command
In 2002, President Bush signed a new Unified Command Plan (UCP) establishing United States Northern Command (NORTHCOM) to provide command and control of the Department of Defense’s (DOD’s) homeland defense efforts and to coordinate military support to civil authorities. As a geographical combatant command, NORTHCOM has an area of responsibility that includes the continental United States, Alaska, Canada, Mexico, and surrounding waters out to approximately 500 nautical miles, including the Gulf of Mexico and the Straits of Florida. The NORTHCOM Commander also commands North American Aerospace Defense Command.

In the next few weeks, the Board is expected to deliver its final report to Secretary of Defense Robert Gates and Office of Personnel Management Director, John Berry, on the future (or lack thereof) of NSPS. Keep in mind, no matter what the report says or recommends, President Obama and OPM's Berry are both publicly on the record favoring some form of "pay for performance" - not only at the Pentagon, but throughout the Federal Government. We hope they will learn what not to do from NSPS, otherwise they might as well call the new program BOHICA, (Bend Over Here it Comes Again).
DHS Says It Did Not Get Army Spy's Reports
Yeah, OK.
The Department of Homeland Security said today that reports on antiwar groups gathered by John Towery, an undercover Army spy in Washington State, did not make their way into DHS intelligence data banks.

"The DHS intelligence operations specialist assigned to the Washington State Fusion Center did not know of Towery's report, consequently, the report was not forwarded through any channels," said department spokeswoman Amy Kudwa, in response to a query.

Last January DHS denied it had any knowledge of Maryland State Police spying on nonviolent activists wrongly classified as terrorists. That turned out to be untrue.
Not only was that untrue, it was forwarding reports on a D.C.-area antiwar group to the Maryland State Police.

Out in Washington State, meanwhile, Towery, an Army civilian assigned to a Fort Lewis, Wash., "force protection division," infiltrated a Seattle-area antiwar group in 2007 posing as an anarchist who could steal classified information for it, SpyTalk reported July 30.

Ike's Military Industrial Complex Speech ~ 1961
STFU Ike, you wingnut, you unhinged fishy mobster, none of this is happening!
SNIP

This conjunction of an immense military establishment and a large arms industry is new in the American experience. The total influence -- economic, political, even spiritual -- is felt in every city, every State house, every office of the Federal government. We recognize the imperative need for this development. Yet we must not fail to comprehend its grave implications.

Our toil, resources and livelihood are all involved; so is the very structure of our society. In the councils of government, we must guard against the acquisition of unwarranted influence, whether sought or unsought, by the militaryindustrial complex. The potential for the disastrous rise of misplaced power exists and will persist. We must never let the weight of this combination endanger our liberties or democratic processes.

We should take nothing for granted.

Only an alert and knowledgeable citizenry can compel the proper meshing of the huge industrial and military machinery of defense with our peaceful methods and goals, so that security and liberty may prosper together. Akin to, and largely responsible for the sweeping changes in our industrial-military posture, has been the technological revolution during recent decades. In this revolution, research has become central; it also becomes more formalized, complex, and costly.

A steadily increasing share is conducted for, by, or at the direction of, the Federal government. Today, the solitary inventor, tinkering in his shop, has been overshadowed by task forces of scientists in laboratories and testing fields. In the same fashion, the free university, historically the fountainhead of free ideas and scientific discovery, has experienced a revolution in the conduct of research. Partly because of the huge costs involved, a government contract becomes virtually a substitute for intellectual curiosity. For every old blackboard there are now hundreds of new electronic computers.

The prospect of domination of the nation's scholars by Federal employment, project allocations, and the power of money is ever present and is gravely to be regarded. Yet, in holding scientific research and discovery in respect, as we should, we must also be alert to the equal and opposite danger that public policy could itself become the captive of a scientifictechnological elite. It is the task of statesmanship to mold, to balance, and to integrate these and other forces, new and old, within the principles of our democratic system -- ever aiming toward the supreme goals of our free society.
