War on Anti-Islamist Speech Heats Up

That a citizen will be dragged before magistrates to be judged on his negative opinions about Islam and Islamists is disturbing enough. More disturbing is that such instances are far from uncommon in this new century. Among the most infamous examples:

In 2004, two pastors were found guilty of violating hate speech laws of Australia's Victoria state following remarks made during a seminar on Islam.

Journalist Oriana Fallaci spent the final months of her life preparing to go to trial for "defaming Islam" in Italy. She succumbed to cancer in 2006.

Due to her strident critiques of Islam and Muslims, actress Brigitte Bardot has been repeatedly convicted and fined for "inciting hatred," most recently in June 2008.

A Canadian tribunal heard a complaint that Ezra Levant had promoted hatred by reprinting the Danish Mohammed cartoons. The charges were dropped last year.

In October 2008, Canadian newsweekly Maclean's was cleared of official wrongdoing for running an excerpt from Mark Steyn's controversial book America Alone.

Some have suggested that Wilders' high-profile case could be a blessing in disguise by helping to shine light on the Islamist agenda in the West. Perhaps. But win or lose, one thing seems certain. Wilders will not be the last citizen made to answer for speech that Islamists and multiculturalists alike yearn to silence. The only question is: who's next?

Over the past two years, Ingushetia and Daghestan have eclipsed Chechnya as the most unstable North Caucasus republics. Both regions are plagued by almost daily low-level violence that pits police and security forces against committed Islamic armed militant groups and civilians suspected of sympathizing with or abetting those groups.

At least 34 Interior Ministry officials were killed in Daghestan in 2008 in 96 separate attacks. The most prominent victim was Russian General Valery Lipinsky, who was gunned down on the street in Makhachkala on December 29. The Islamic militant group Shariat Jamaat claimed responsibility for that killing, which it described in a January 5 press release as "a gift from our Amir Muaz to the infidel [Russian Prime Minister Vladimir] Putin."

Wall Street wanted Geithner because he had already been deeply involved in the bailouts of the big banks and had powerful political connections to such groups as the National Committee on U.S.-China Relations, the Group of Thirty, and the Council on Foreign Relations. In short, this former employee of Kissinger Associates was a Wall Street favorite.

But how could Obama, a controversial figure with a revolutionary Marxist background, communist connections, and socialist worldview, emerge as the favorite of Wall Street interests? The short answer is that he is the perfect front man.

"And G-d said to Moses, 'Come to Pharaoh'…" ~ Exodus 10:1

When G-d summoned Moses to confront Pharaoh, G-d did not say to him, "Go to Pharaoh," but rather, "Come to Pharaoh," as if to say that He, G-d, was already there and by approaching Pharaoh, Moses was actually approaching G-d.

Therein, G-d revealed to Moses the secret of Pharaoh's power and the power of all evil—that, in essence, it is truly nothing more than the audacious misappropriation of the power of G-d. In other words, the source of evil is the independent ego and the ultimate independence of ego is not the rejection of G-d but the belief that G-d's power is one's own.

"Come, enter the essence of evil and confront it in its source"After all, who was Pharaoh—tyrant, dictator, killer of children and oppressor of slaves? All of these were but manifestations of Pharaoh—particular character defects, if you will. But the essence of Pharaoh – that which made all of these other behaviors possible – was nothing more or less than the worship of self, as Pharaoh so outrageously exclaimed (Ezekiel 29:9), "I created myself."

Thus, G-d told Moses "Come to Pharaoh," as if to say, "Come, enter the essence of evil and confront it in its source, as it really is. You will find that I am there already, for I am the power that evil so audaciously claims as its own."

So it is with us. Our inner Pharaoh is the ego that claims G-d-like powers. He may be called by various names such as self-control, will-power or intelligence, but his message is always the same. He insists that he has our addiction under control. By the time we realize that this Pharaoh's claims are untrue, his domination over us is already complete. We stand face to face with evil, and it seems that there is nothing that we can do.

But then G-d beckons us, "Come. Come face the obsession as it really is. The ego is not as powerful as it claims, but to the contrary, completely powerless. When you can see this – that the power of ego is nothing but a complete and total lie – it is then, and only then, that you will see true power, the power of G-d."
