  36. We might be Mozlim if.......

The Crusades are generally portrayed as a series of holy wars against Islam led by power-mad popes and fought by religious fanatics. They are supposed to have been the epitome of self-righteousness and intolerance, a black stain on the history of the Catholic Church in particular and Western civilization in general. A breed of proto-imperialists, the Crusaders introduced Western aggression to the peaceful Middle East and then deformed the enlightened Muslim culture, leaving it in ruins.

... [But] Christians in the eleventh century were not paranoid fanatics. Muslims really were gunning for them. While Muslims can be peaceful, Islam was born in war and grew the same way. From the time of Mohammed, the means of Muslim expansion was always the sword. Muslim thought divides the world into two spheres, the Abode of Islam and the Abode of War.... In the eleventh century, the Seljuk Turks conquered Asia Minor (modern Turkey), which had been Christian since the time of St. Paul. The old Roman Empire, known to modern historians as the Byzantine Empire, was reduced to little more than Greece.

... [The Crusades] were not the brainchild of an ambitious pope or rapacious knights but a response to more than four centuries of conquests in which Muslims had already captured two-thirds of the old Christian world. At some point, Christianity as a faith and a culture had to defend itself or be subsumed by Islam. The Crusades were that defense.

And that is why I defend them today. No, they weren’t perfectly executed, nor could they achieve all their objectives any more than the Cold War truly vanquished the left. Evil is always afoot. But note that the Mideast and North Africa had more Christians than did Europe at the time of the early Muslim invasions — but no one to Crusade for them. Thus, it’s easy to imagine that, were it not for our hammering medieval heroes, we could well be what the Mideast is today. And unless we shelve multiculturalism and become what those crusaders were yesterday, we may not have a tomorrow.

  64. Dear sir or madam,

I am writing to apply for the position of Pope. I recently received my Bachelor of Arts, or “artium baccalaureus,” from Dartmouth College, with a major concentration in Theatre Studies and a minor concentration in Computer Science. While I have been focusing on the technology and financial sectors, I have recently decided to widen my job search to include top non-profits, such as your organization. I became aware of the availability of the position of Pope through the Dartmouth listserv; I am greatly impressed by the achievements of The Catholic Church and share many of its goals. I believe my qualifications and outlook make me a unique and interesting candidate for Pope and I would be enthusiastic to grow with The Catholic Church.

  67. Wells Fargo Typo Victim Dies in Court

The bank billed Larry Delassus $13,361 owed by his neighbor, then foreclosed

On the morning of Dec. 19, 2012, in a Torrance courtroom, Larry Delassus' heart stopped as he watched his attorney argue his negligence and discrimination case against banking behemoth Wells Fargo.

His death came more than two years after Wells Fargo mistakenly mixed up his Hermosa Beach address with that of a neighbor in the same condo complex. The bank's typo led Wells Fargo to demand that Delassus pay $13,361.90 — two years of late property taxes the bank said it had paid on his behalf in order to keep his Wells Fargo mortgage afloat.

But Delassus, a quiet man who suffered from the rare blood-clot disorder Budd-Chiari syndrome and was often hospitalized, didn't owe a penny in taxes.

One of his neighbors, whose condo "parcel number" was two digits different from Delassus', owed the back taxes.

  78. Israeli Dep. Foreign Minister & fmr Delta Force commander endorse Rosenberg books, “can’t wait to read this new one, Damascus Countdown”

The timing of the release of Damascus Countdown this week has been interesting as the media is filled with stories about U.S.-Israeli relations, the Iranian nuclear threat, the bloody chaos in Syria, and the growing prospect of an Israeli preemptive strike and another war in the epicenter. As such, in the midst of radio and TV interviews this week, I’ve been staying in touch with several key Middle East experts, including a former CIA Director and two current Members of the House Intelligence Committee, to keep up with fast-moving developments and provide what I hope is careful, thoughtful analysis. I’m currently drafting several op-eds based on these discussions, and will post these once they are published.

This morning, I’m grateful to be able to announce the endorsement of two good friends and renowned diplomatic and military experts. I first met Danny Ayalon when he was the Israeli Ambassador to the U.S. Over the last four years, he has served with distinction as Israel’s Deputy Foreign Minister and we’ve become good friends during this time. He spoke at the 2011 Epicenter Conference in Jerusalem and gave a really fascinating and helpful presentation on the state of affairs in the Middle East. Three-star U.S. General Jerry Boykin and I became friends when he was serving as a senior official in the Pentagon. Since retiring from the Army, he, too, has been an excellent speaker at several of our Epicenter Conferences. Their insights have always proven very useful to me, and I’m deeply grateful for their support for my books.

It's hard out there for a pimp.. who's on the local school board. Also facing an attempted murder charge.

    http://www.pe.com/local-news/riverside-county/moreno-valley/moreno-valley-headlines-index/20130307-moreno-valley-school-board-member-rios-sentenced-to-14-years-4-months.ece

Moreno Valley school board member Mike Rios was sentenced to fourteen years, four months in prison Friday, March 8, for his 23 convictions on felony pimping, pandering and insurance fraud charges.

Rios, 42, entered the courtroom shackled and wearing orange jail scrubs, hair cut short, and sat down to face Judge Gary Tranbarger. He had been emotional during his trial, but listened calmly at Friday’s proceedings and did not raise his voice.

The sentencing officially removes Rios from the board and allows the Moreno Valley Unified School District to begin procedures to replace him.

Rios refused to resign from the school board after charges were filed against him in 2012. State law said his seat was not vacant until he was sentenced. Until he was put in custody following his Feb. 8 conviction, he continued to attend school board meetings. Rios was elected in 2010.

He still faces a separate trial on attempted murder charges in which he is accused of shooting at two men who followed him to his house after they got into an argument at a Moreno Valley bar in February 2012.

I'm glad I went. Hadn't seen my cousin since his wedding in 1975. We used to be pretty tight when we were kids. Still married to the same woman and obviously a very loving couple. They met at a Teen Challenge meeting after he had done a little time. Very devout but down to earth, holding a large tribe together. She sang "I'll Fly Away" at the funeral and I teared up.

Documents and witness testimonials suggest that Hermann Göring's younger brother Albert saved the lives of dozens of Jews before and during the war. He reportedly retrieved some from concentration camps and helped others escape abroad. He set up bank accounts for them in Switzerland so that they could survive while in exile. He gave money to members of the
resistance, and he looked the other way when they committed sabotage or stole weapons.

twice a year GovCo has dictated that we need to rise up earlier or later based on a whim. It fucks with my head, even though I get up earlier than most people anyway. I have to adjust my schedule to adjust to everyone else's schedule now. It's nearly 10, not nearly 9. I have to wake up the wife now so I can get a shower and shave and take me maw shopping.

We're no longer an agrairan society. This was Ben Franklin's original thought to support farming families. Same thing wiith traditional school schedule, 9 months in, 3 months out. It was so the kids could contribute to getting the crops iin and then harvesting the crops.

Bottom line is this, do not let GovCo make major decisions for you. They will just fuck it up. They always do.

Their noses and ears full of tufts of hair, their brains crackling with mental electricity, their flappy trousers hoiked biffin-tight, and their little odd socks showing, they reassured the hoi polloi that, although they were very clever, and we needed and valued them as a society, these people were loonies.

  154. The Air Force's F-35A: Not Ready for Combat, Not Even Ready for Combat Training

While the DOT&E paperwork includes an opening memo and an executive summary, they do not do justice to the detailed findings of the report. Specific issues are discussed below-much of it in quotations and showing the appropriate page number of the text of the evaluation.
Restrictions in Software, Systems and Flight

The currently available software essential to control the aircraft (software Blocks 1A and 1B) is "intended to provide only basic pilot training and has no combat capability. The current aircraft have a number of significant operational restrictions such as limited maneuvering, speeds, and constrained descent rates; no carriage of weapons, no use of countermeasures, and no opening of weapons bay doors in flight." (p. 1.) Also, "student pilots were limited in flight maneuvering to very basic aircraft handling, such as simple turns, climbs, and descents as the flight envelope of speed and altitude was limited, angle-of-attack and g-loading were restricted, and maneuvers normally flown during a familiarization phase of a syllabus were explicitly prohibited." (p. 2.)

"Mark E. Kelly, gun-control proponent and husband to former Congresswoman Gabby Giffords, recently purchased an AR-15 (an "assault weapon," he called it)—which he now says he intended as an illustration of the need for more stringent gun laws.
"Kelly reportedly bought the AR-15 and a 1911-style semi-automatic pistol at Diamondback Police Supply in Tucson, Arizona.
"Various sources contacted Breitbart News once Kelly made the purchase,

"In February, Kelly told Fox News Sunday's Chris Wallace that lawmakers need to address "assault weapons." He said the purpose of an "assault weapon" is "to kill a lot of people very quickly," and he lamented that such products were "too readily available."

It is because of this that both the theologian Tillich and the philosopher Heidegger each claimed that there is a form of atheism that is closer to the divine than the standard theism witnessed in the church. For wherever a concern of beauty, an embrace of life and a love of liberation are exhibited the sacred
is proclaimed. In this way the passionate critiques of God propounded by the New Atheists can be seen as potent defenses of the sacred. Defenses that, at their best, are worthy of being called divine.

Libya Women Face Islamist Rise Since Gadhafi Fall

On her way back from her job as a lecturer at a university near Tripoli, Libyan poet Aicha Almagrabi was stopped by a group of bearded militiamen. They kicked her car, beat up her driver and threatened to do the same to her. Her offense: being alone in a car with men without a male relative as a guardian.

"You have violated the law of God," the militiamen told her, Almagrabi said.

Hundreds of Christians clashed with police across Pakistan on Sunday, a day after a Muslim mob burned dozens of homes owned by members of the minority religious group in retaliation for alleged insults against the prophet Muhammad.

The incident began Friday after a Muslim in the eastern city of Lahore accused a Christian man of blasphemy - an offense punishable in Pakistan by life in prison or even death. A day later, hundreds of angry Muslims rampaged through the Christian neighborhood, burning about 170 houses.
